When I come across people like Arundhati Roy, I remember the saying, "You can lead a horse to the water but you can not make it drink the water".

In one of my posts a while back I wondered if we have a system in India, which converts perfectly normal people into morons like Roys. I strongly believe that there is no way a human being can be as stupid as Arundhati Roy naturally.

Now terrorists announce rewards for death of security men
Monday August 8 2005 00:00 IST
PTI

JAMMU: In an audacious move cocking a snook at the authorities, terrorists have put up posters in a government school in Jammu region announcing cash rewards to people providing information about security force personnel and their informers, official sources said on Sunday.

Posters purportedly signed by a self-appointed area commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Mohd Ayoob, who was a Special Police Officer (SPO) till recently, were found pasted on the walls of the Higher secondary school at Kandi in Rajouri district on Saturday night, they said.

Ayoob is wanted in connection with the killing of three SPOs, looting of their service weapons and killings of about ten persons in the Rajouri-Udhampur belt, they said, adding that the posters have since been removed.

In the posters, the outfit declared a Rs one lakh award to the person who helps in the killing of an informer and Rs 2 lakh on the head of a security person and his rifle, while Rs 50,000 would be given to those giving information on informers to security forces.

The posters said the forces, by declaring cash rewards for nabbing terrorists, wanted to divide the Muslims and those "falling into their trap would face death of their entire family."

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->London - 10 August 2005 - Mr. Michael Howard, leader of the Conservative party, disagreed with comments made in a BBC programme on 20/07/2005 by Ms. Sayeeda Warsi, vice-chairman of the party, stating that new anti-terror laws following the 7/7 attacks in London should not stop support for "(the) freedom fight" in Kashmir. She had further stated that "It would concern me if … the definition of terrorism was to cover maybe (the) legitimate freedom fight in Kashmir."

The Conservative Party leader in his letter dated 29/07/05 to Hindu council UK disagreed with those comments and stated that the Conservative Party policy does not support either terrorism or freedom fight in Kashmir and wholly supports a negotiated solution between Pakistan and India which is also the policy of the UK Government.

MPACUK Comment: Kashmir Freedom Fighters to become 'terrorists' says Conservative Zionist Leader Howard. British Muslims from Kashmir prove once again thier incompetence in lobbying the Government or opposition. This is what happens when Muslims do not join political parties to fight their cause from the inside. MPACUK salutes Sayeeda Warsi, a Muslim women who joined the conservatives for the sake of Islam and is fighting this battle while the rest of us sleep.

I don't know if Howard really has Zionist views (not that its bad) but seems like to Muslims anyone who does not support Kashmir terrorism automatically becomes a zionist or a Hindu fundamentalist, good lobbying by the Hindu groups in UK against Sayeeda Warsi which is why this statement by Mr.Howard came about.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Pak should stop sending militants to Kashmir: Mehbooba
SRINAGAR, AUG 11 (PTI)

Reminding Pakistan of its crackdown on militancy after the London blasts, the ruling People's Democratic Party today asked it to stop sending militants here if it "claims to be a well-wisher of Kashmiris'.

"Pakistan claims to be a well-wisher of Kashmiris and wants them to see free... It should stop sending militants to Kashmir and allow people of the state to live in peace without the fear of gun," Mehbooba Mufti told reporters after being elected her as PDP president for second term.
"We appeal to Musharraf to advise Pakistani boys not to come here," she said.

Mufti said Islamabad lost no time to rein in militants, close 'madarsas' and even arrested maulvis after the series of blasts in London.

"We (Kashmiris) are your brothers and sisters. Children are orphaned and women widowed daily in Kashmir. You should feel the pain and agony and stop the violence here," she said.

She said the people of Kashmir had provided food and shelter to Pakistani militants for 15 years. "..But now, they want to live in peace".

Her party would take up with the Centre the issue of return of over 3,000 Kashmiri boys (militants) currently in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir who have expressed their desire to return to their homeland.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->J&K: Increased security for August 15

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar | August 11, 2005 20:27 IST

Security beef-up and increasing search and cordon operations on the eve of Independence Day are adding to the tension in the lives of the locals even though living under heightened tensions is not something new for the residents of Srinagar.

State police and security forces are sweating it out in the open to ensure that the official functions marking Independence Day pass without a hiccup.

But recent deadly attacks by militants are weighing heavily on the minds of security managers who are still trying to identify any loose ends in the elaborate arrangements in place for August 15.

Taking no chances, security forces have mounted an extraordinary vigil putting up drop gates, erecting spiked barricades on roads used for VIP movement, conducting sudden cordon and search operations and hauling up vehicles for thorough checking beside frisking of passengers at scores of places in the Valley.

All this is part of the security arrangements made in Srinagar to thwart any possible militant attacks coinciding with Independence Day.

"Militants have traditionally been sharpening their attack capabilities around Independence Day," said a police officer in Srinagar.

Authorities are keeping their fingers crossed even when they refuse to accept that there are any specific intelligence inputs about militants planning something big around August 15, 2005.

"There are no specific intelligence inputs that would suggest any specific militant plans to disrupt the various functions planned for August 15. We have made elaborate security arrangements and the alertness in Kashmir these days is part of our efforts to increase vigilance," said Javaid Ahmed Mukhdoomi, inspector general of police, (Kashmir zone).

Some deadly militant attacks have taken place in the Valley during the last one month including a massive car bomb explosion in the high security Sonawar area of Srinagar on July 21 and a suicide militant strike in Lal Chowk on July 29. It is customary for Kashmir to witness heightened tensions around August 15 with the local administration spending sleepless nights to ensure that all official functions connected with August 15 pass off peacefully.

"Even a big fire-cracker becomes news in Kashmir around August 15 and that is why we have to ensure that everything passes off peacefully," said the police officer on condition of anonymity.

It is important to recall that after the Lal Chowk attack, there has been a remarkable decline in the number of tourists visiting Kashmir as also the pilgrims bound for the holy cave shrine of Amarnath.

More Hindus get rewarded for being secular:

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Gunmen attack village in Kashmir

Islamist militants have killed five Hindus and injured nine more in an attack on a remote mountain village in India's section of Kashmir, police say.

They struck as Hindu family members ate their evening meal together, a police official said. Three of the injured are in a serious condition.

Guns and grenades were used in the overnight raid at Sajroo, 160km (100 miles) north of the city of Jammu.

Kashmir has seen a recent spurt of violence despite peace talks.

The division of the territory is a longstanding bone of contention between India and Pakistan.

Correspondents say violence in Indian Kashmir tends to rise before Independence Day, which Delhi celebrates on Monday, a day after Islamabad.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Satbir Gupta said two families were attacked in the raid.

He was quoted by the Associated Press news agency as blaming the attack on Pakistan-based militant groups.

An unnamed police officer told Reuters some of those attacked were members of a village defence committee.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Jammu on alert ahead of Independence Day

Agencies / Jammu

The special squad of the Jammu police is out patrolling the streets in the crowded parade chowk in old Jammu city, with latest intelligence inputs suggesting that militants might try to strike on the Independence Day.

The police are taking no chances, and people are also being randomly stopped. After the recent spate of car bombings, practically every car is being searched.

"Lot of elaborate arrangements have been made for this day and no chances are being taken. This year also, we will go through the drill and see everything is in place without causing much inconvenience to the general public," said S P Vaid, I G Jammu.

Special devices

And this time, new hi-tech devices are being used. Policemen with special night vision devices are tracing the possible movement of the militants on the outskirts of the city.

"During the ambush, night vision is very effective. You can come to know of the movement of the terrorists much in advance, which you can't see with the naked eye," said the IG.

Security forces are guarding all the important points in the city, but with the Amarnath yatra also going on, the challenge is even greater. For the first time, this year 31 companies of CRPF are guarding the yatra route.

Every year the security forces are on a maximum alert on the eve of the Independence Day.

But this year, the security arrangements are quite unprecedented.

And going by the recent militant attacks in the state, it seems that the security forces cannot afford to lower down their guard even after the Independence Day.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Operation launched to nab missing youths in Doda dist

Jammu, August 17: Police have launched an operation to find out the whereabouts of two missing Hindu youths, who were abducted by the militants from Atholi in Kishtwar tehsil of Doda district on August 11.

According to sources, on August 11 three youths from the village Atholi were grazing their sheep near Paddar, when the militants passing through the area asked them to accompany.

Sources said that while they asked the Hindu youth one of them identified as Bodh Raj to carry their luggage and instructed the Muslim youth identified as Mohi-ud-din to prepare food by reaching in advance to their next halt.

Sources said that when militants reached the place where Mohi-ud-din was preparing the food, the two of the Hindu youth were not with them. When Mohi-ud-din asked them about the whereabouts of two youth, he was told by militants that they have released them.

Later, when Mohi-ud-din reached the village, he found that two youths have not returned to the village since their abduction. After getting suspicious about the well-being of the abducted youth, on August 14 Mohi-ud-din narrated the whole incident to the police personnel at one of the Police Post near Paddar.

This message reached to the police authorities at district Doda on August 15 and by August 16 police launched a earch operation to find out the whereabouts of abducted youth. Till the filing of this report, the operation was on with no success to the search party.

When contacted, Satvir Gupta, DIG Udhampur-Doda range said that major search operation is in progress to trace the abducted youth. Ruling out the possibility that these youth were abducted for arms training, Gupta said that militants have abducted them to carry their load. He, however, said that it has not been identified that which militant organisation have abducted the youth.
