He advised the people to read the tender-cum-community participation notices of the corporation carefully and come forward to become a member of supervisory committee.

Each such committee would have five members, though the number can be increased if considered appropriate.

All registered voters in Gujarat will be required to vote and those absent will be summoned by the local election officer to submit a valid reason with proof within a month.

The bill empowers the election officer designated by the state election commission to declare people who do not cast their vote as defaulter voters. They shall subsequently be notified and will have an opportunity to present their reason within a month.

Exemption will be granted on account of illness, absence from the country or state on polling day and for any other reason prescribed by the state. Subsequently, the government will decide on the action to be taken against the defaulters.

No offense to anyone who wants this Gujurat bill to work, but its really foolish to think it will. It sounds great on paper (imagine if everyone voted, that would be the easiest way to reduce corruption). However, its simply IMPOSSIBLE to force a person to vote. Its also impossible to track down hundreds of thousands of non-voters. Imagine the resources that would go into doing something like that...

There are many options to fine a person who has not voted, like for example preventing them to buy rations from ration shops, adding 1% extra for thier road tax, or driving licence costing them extra, soft measures like these.

"The representative bodies (in India) should think of ways to marshal the energy and the impatience of the young and the vast latent capabilities of our women," he said.

Hailing Meira Kumar for her "iron fist beneath a velvet voice", the prime minister said the task of running parliament smoothly and giving due voice to all sections had become complex and challenging.

"I am pleased that the speaker facing these challenges in our own parliament is a very distinguished woman, Meira Kumar, who sheathes the proverbial iron fist beneath a velvet voice.

RE: Miracle party

Industrialist: Ambani

Others could be: Amitabh, Ramdev, Tata and so on.

But in this Miracle land of ours, miracles no longer happen till you have miraculous person to lead. I hope everybody joins them to succeed and they start right away otherwise except for Ramdev, nobody else is in reckoning even.

New Delhi, June 8

Defence Minister AK Antony, who is normally reticent about his political thoughts, today broke his silence on the recent developments in the country. Antony, who is considered “close” to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said politicians, bureaucrats and others holding key positions were not ready for “transition to transparency” and contended that this was creating problems. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2011/20110609/main5.htm

Antony was talking to mediapersons this morning after inaugurating a new conference room at the Press Club of India here this morning. “The country is passing through a new era revolution - the transparency revolution. The walls of secrecy are crumbling in every field gradually, including politics, business, administration and judiciary. Once the trend has started, you can’t stop it midway,” he said.

Jumping out of ‘Cattle Class’!

Quote:On Sunday 105 IAS officers of 1995-96 batch went to Canada to attend a 10-day official training programme. But the trip has created tension among the officers as some —termed as blue eyed— managed Business Class travel. The Government provided ticket to all in the Air India’s economy class. The protest started when the officers came to know that 10 officers were granted Business Class facility.

These scum can use bribe money.
