Corruption Watch
> It doesn't appear you have read the Title of the piece, the opening line, not to speak of the whole piece.

I am not Kaushal yet let me respond to your piece.

What abt TITLE ? Now most of the TITLES of artciles/reports in media say one thing and matter below is much different.

>The purpose of this piece is not to trace the history of corruption in India, but who started INSTITUTIONALIZING IT. Plz. don't try to steer the discussion to uncalled for areas. It appears this has definitely touched you somewhere it hurts you most, though it beats me what!

can we pls start with defining corruption, is it only when money / property is offered.

Was Gandhi corrupt when he threw out Netaji ? Was Gandhi corrupt when put Nehru in PM's seat ?

For example what has this to do with topic ?

> Then came Vajpayee, who coolly excused Modi's shameless bigotry

So what corruption are you talking abt ? Why do you bring "bigotry" into this ( btw are you showing one right now ? )

What has that got to do ANYTHING with YOUR TITLE ?

So now do I lack COMPREHENSION ?

I noticed Rajeev was "accussed" onlee ... pls find out how he name was removed form case...

>Then came Vajpayee, who coolly excused Modi's shameless bigotry, Tehelka Tapes (coffins & caskets <!--emo&Sad--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> ), Judeo's money in camera <!--emo&:cool--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/specool.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='specool.gif' /><!--endemo--> and what have you and was booted out, albeit in favour of a week UPA.

Ajit Jogi & family ? was that corruption ? pls help me comprehend.

Do you think NDA got "booted" out because of corruption.

> Tit for tat <!--emo&:argue--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/argue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='argue.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Yes, this is like pan calling kettle black.
So ? Agagin I ask why are you talking abt tits and tats.. as per you christly advise the TITLE says it all .. what was that .. institut...

>Hope God gives you some patience as well as some English Comprehension skills, along with some civil vocabulary, whereby you can avoid horse___.

Well if God can give Kaushal what you ask for, perhaps be a bit selfish and better ask something for yourself first. If you yourself are not ABLE how are you going to even think obejectively abt the TITLE ? <!--emo&Smile--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Civil Vocabulary .. Paahh!!
Comprehension ...... ( I will keep you post for a while , good one for a subtle joke <!--emo&Smile--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

>That is, What makes anybody think or hope that CBI, or for that matter any other Govt. controlled & funded institution, to be free.

Free as ? of ? from ?

> They have been investigating Bofors since almost two decades now and will continue to investigate all six cases, discussed in this link, for several more decades, till a new generations come into existence and the issue dies out naturally.

And "Stabbing of JUSTICE" is described as "natural death".

> By the way what happened to that gentleman, who was raided and caught with some two/three crores of rupees in hard cash <!--emo&:eager--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/lmaosmiley.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lmaosmiley.gif' /><!--endemo-->?

What are we talking abt :easger !!

Best Regards

Corruption needs to be defined and procedures need to be laid. The society needs to be shaken from lethargy then something will happend. Untill then lets blame everybody else except *OURSELF* , appreciate Laloo and his antics.

PPL/MEDIA praise SUPREME COURT for BEST-BAKERY , but remember THE SAME DICKS OF SUPREME COURT HAVE NOT DOME ANYTHING FOR "UPHAAR CINEMA CASE" ITS 7 YEARS AND STILL NOW JUSTICE. NO RSS / VHP / BAJRANG DAL /HINDUTVA ELEMENT WAS INVOLVED . So what the f*(k IS SUPREME COURT DOING ABT IT. NOW WHO ARE YOU GOING TO BLAME ?

PS : Try google for "UPHAAR CINEMA CASE" DELHI!

Your convoluted attack on me doesn't deserve a point-by-point reply. It's suffice to say that All currupt, including Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, PV Narasimha Rao, Vajpayee and at state-level Mayavathi, Jayalalitha, Ajit Jogi, Chandra Babu Naidu, etc. got booted out for their corruption, moral degeneration, commission / omission and tolerance to the bigotry/inefficiency/insensitiveness. You appear to have some favorites among currupt, whom you fiercely protect and attack others with corruption track. I do not hold any brief from any side nor do I have selective favorites, like you. <!--emo&:furious--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/furious.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='furious.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I entirley agree with your conclusion.

How wld you describe the following :

> Hope God gives you some patience as well as some English Comprehension skills, along with some civil vocabulary, whereby you can avoid horse___.

> GOT BOOTED OUT FOR THEIR CORRUPTION, MORAL DEGENERATION, COMMISSION / OMISSION AND TOLERANCE TO THE BIGOTRY/INEFFICIENCY/INSENSITIVENESS.

Which as per your guidelines has nothing to to with the said topic/title.

> You appear to have some favorites among currupt, whom you fiercely protect and attack others with corruption track.

I am all for DUE PUNISHMENT to every Corrupt people/organistaion.

Accepting anything in cash or kind for extending official favors, supporting such acts, keeping silent on such acts, applying different standards to different people at different points of time, using undue pressure to influence official decisions and even moral degeneration, accordingly to me is Corruption.

Couple weeks ago I was discussing about assets of a very very prominent politician in India (who shall remain nameless to remove any bias in disussion). This politician had listed his/her assests during the election campaign that were only an insult to a average person's intelligence. I was told that CBI has investigated this for decades and so it's all kosher now. Is it possible?

Institutions not doing it's job due to political pressures is not unique to India. I believe people on Bill O'Reilly's staff have been calling IRS for past 3 years to investigate finances of one Mr. Jesse Jackson.

Kaushal raised a good point about selective nature of your targets. A selective outrage is also thoroughly corrupt. Such an outpour sounds about as much honest and credible as Laloo railing against corruption.

Before getting into a self righteous indignant hyperactive mode and wasting bandwidth, may be you should do some research after removing the blinkers. Only then your posts will have value.

Hey Acharya,

What propaganda are you referring to? Discussion on Bofors, Taj Scam, Tehelka, Telgi, Judeo, Ajit Jogi, all epitomes of corruption, if can be branded as propaganda, Yes, it's propaganda against corruption.

And why do you represent the interests of currupt? What's your own interest in Corruption as a practice?? Has it touched you where it hurt most???<!--emo&:blow--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Kaushal,

I respect your views. I like your spirit and accept your apologies. Please forgive me if I offend you in any way.

As you would've noticed, I only expressed my agony against the currupt going scot-free and the investigating agencies acting as stooges of the powers that be. Am personally not against Vajpayee, PVN, R.Gandhi or IG. But, it's the sanctity with which the corruption flourishing that pains me most. Hope we all, collectively, could do something to rootout this evil from our society.

Ashok,

It still beats me for what do I owe your wrath! <!--emo&Sad--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> I started from IG to all currupt premiers of Kongress and ended up with Vajpayee, for he happens to be the latest among the long list. Please don't expect me to spare someone just because he/she happens to be in your favorites' list. I can't be selective even if you accuse me of being selective (or is it not being selective) hundred times?

Please stick to the core point and try to make some concrete suggestion - for the benefit of our forum - to exterminate this corruption from our society. Or wait till some wise-men/women do so.

<b>Laloo gets Railways to gift home seat 1,000 cr plant</b>
<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav is on a roll—from one controversy to another. After that bizarre storm in a kulhad, <b>he has now unwrapped a Rs 1000 crore gift for Chapra, his constituency in Bihar: a Wheel and Axle plant that the railways don’t really need.</b>

And, within days of the Minister waving the wand, Chairman Railway Board (CRB) R.K. Singh, who was on that special train with Laloo, issued a two-line note that made it official: ‘‘The MR (Minister of Railways) has desired that a Wheel and Axle plant should be set up at Parsa village near Chapra. The MM (Member Mechanical) may initiate further action on this immediately.’’

Work on the project has already started, even as sources reveal that the railways simply do not require another Wheel and Axle factory.<b> They point out that the existing one at Yelanhanka, near Bangalore, is already under-utilised and running at a heavy loss.</b>

Besides, Laloo’s move makes a mockery of the railways’ modernisation and reform policy. ‘‘<b>The loans which railways have taken from foreign funding agencies, including the Asian Development Bank, hinge on various conditionalities such as the one which stipulates that no new production units would be set up. Even the Rakesh Mohan committee had suggested hiving-off and privatising existing production units,’’</b> the official explains.

Obviously, Laloo doesn’t know, or does he? have the balls to say the obvious

<b>BJP Govt turns heat on ‘tainted’ officers</b>
<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->It seems to be bad days ahead for Chhattisgarh's “tainted” bureaucrats, who had earlier enjoyed a good rapport with the  Congress government. It started with IAS officer M.R. Sarthi, accused of raping a tribal woman during his stint as collector in Jashpur district. The Jogi government,  instead of punishing, had him shifted. But with the BJP in power now, a case has been registered against him. Similarly, the government has ordered inquiries against one IPS and three IAS officers. As more and more names of officers are figuring in sex scandals, authorities are contemplating a move to screen their credentials. Although no formal announcement has been made, there are signs that the government may start collecting information about officers having extra-marital affairs. However, a question mark hangs on the move as officers may consider it an invasion of their privacy.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>UPA's fast track for favourite </b>
Sidharth Mishra/ New Delhi
Barely two months in office, the United Progressive Alliance (<b>UPA) Government has now begun the process of promoting senior armed forces officials who have serious charges of corruption against them.</b> <!--emo&:thumbdown--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif' /><!--endemo-->

A case in point is the alacrity with which Major General TA D'Cunha was promoted to the <b>rank of Lieutenant General on June 30, hours or rather minutes before he was to superannuate</b>. The case for Gen D'Cunha had earlier been rejected by then Cabinet Secretary Kamal Pande as <b>he faced serious charges of corruption</b>.

The promotion of a General facing corruption charges to the next rank has serious implications. Gen D'Cunha, at present posted at Ordnance School, Jabalpur, in his capacity as the Director-General, Ordnance Services, would be responsible for the purchase of all kinds of stores for the armed forces.

"While processing the promotion of Gen D'Cunha, <b>the mandatory clearance of the Central Vigilance Commission was not taken, something unprecedented in the history of the armed forces,</b>" well-placed sources in the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said. The course of events preceding the General's promotion has added to suspicion that some <b>extra-constitutional authorities exercising powers</b> over the functioning of the Government backed the case. <!--emo&:thumbdown--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif' /><!--endemo-->

While rejecting Gen D'Cunha's case, then Cabinet Secretary Kamal Pande had returned the file to the Army Headquarters with the comments: "Officer found unsuitable for promotion, hold a fresh board." This note, which is well-documented in the officer's file, was overlooked. "Such oversight of an important noting cannot be natural, it must be under influence," sources in the MoD said.
