<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Jammu on alert ahead of Independence Day
Agencies / Jammu
The special squad of the Jammu police is out patrolling the streets in the crowded parade chowk in old Jammu city, with latest intelligence inputs suggesting that militants might try to strike on the Independence Day.
The police are taking no chances, and people are also being randomly stopped. After the recent spate of car bombings, practically every car is being searched.
"Lot of elaborate arrangements have been made for this day and no chances are being taken. This year also, we will go through the drill and see everything is in place without causing much inconvenience to the general public," said S P Vaid, I G Jammu.
Special devices
And this time, new hi-tech devices are being used. Policemen with special night vision devices are tracing the possible movement of the militants on the outskirts of the city.
"During the ambush, night vision is very effective. You can come to know of the movement of the terrorists much in advance, which you can't see with the naked eye," said the IG.
Security forces are guarding all the important points in the city, but with the Amarnath yatra also going on, the challenge is even greater. For the first time, this year 31 companies of CRPF are guarding the yatra route.
Every year the security forces are on a maximum alert on the eve of the Independence Day.
But this year, the security arrangements are quite unprecedented.
And going by the recent militant attacks in the state, it seems that the security forces cannot afford to lower down their guard even after the Independence Day.
