<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--> Oil payoffs: CPM flays Opp for not demanding probe against Reliance
Pioneer News Service/ New Delhi
The CPI-M on Monday attacked the BJP for its "failure" to demand probe into the "biggest" non-contractual beneficiary, Reliance, in the Iraqi oil payoffs.
"Why Reliance is not being inquired into and why the Opposition is blissfully unaware about the non-contractual benefits accruing to it," CPI-M leader Nilotpal Basu told mediapersons.
Mr Basu said the BJP was more concerned over the "disappearance" of Aniel Matherani on his return to India from Croatia but did not talk about millions of children who lost their lives in Iraq during the sanctions period.
He, along with party MPs Basudeb Acharia and Rupchand Pal, deplored the Opposition for creating an "impasse" in Parliament on the Volcker issue and said NDA's claim to treat statements of individuals as "final proof of guilt" was "not justified". "Stalling of the House will not help in any way," Mr Basu said.
On the question of Natwar Singh continuing in the Government, he said, "We are not demanding his resignation. It is for him or the Prime Minister to decide."
At the same time, he maintained, there was no difference with CPI on the issue and that there was no dearth of any floor co-ordination among the Left parties. "We were the first to demand an inquiry into the Volcker issue," he pointed out.
Referring to the repeated adjournments of both the Houses, Mr Basu said the Opposition appeared to be hell bent on not allowing Parliament to function.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
