Dear all,
I am a student at the University of Oxford pursuing a Masters in Forced
Migration at the Refugee Studies center. Lately I have been working on a
research project that concerns the instances of discrimination against
displaced dalits in aid assistance programs during emergency crisis relief.
The area of focus of the project is that of the Kutch earthquake and the
Tsunami disaster in particular. As I reckon, a lot of articles and postings
had been made on the indiathinkers website concerning this issue both in
2001(Kutch) and 2004 (Tsunami). I would greatly appreciate it if anyone
could provide me help in the following areas
- any publications or books I could refer to (this would also include the
dalit identity issue itself)
- any interviews with officials/ people concerned/NGO delegates
- Reports/finding/concrete empirical evidence
- Articles/journals which anyone might have come across/brought out by your
organization
- Website links that pertain to this issue.
I also need some information regarding the recent allegations made in terms
of the discrimination in relief aid towards muslims in the south asian
earthquake (relief aid) and also during the 2002 gujarat pogrom. Since the
disasters are fairly recent, a lot of information in this regard is scarce
and not documented as yet. Therefore the views/information shared by the
indiathinkers would be of tremendous importance. I would especially like to
ask both the Dalit Monitor Forum and Mr.Yogi Sikand for help in this matter
as their articles/postings have constantly thrown light on this subject.
However, I hope that I shall get an active response from all who read this
and have an opinion on the issue. All help in this matter would be greatly
appreciated and well acknowledged. Thanking you
