there is some speculation that aryabhatta was from kerala while he may have done his work in kusumapura. at least one of the bhaskaras was from the south
the kerala school of mathematics was world renowned in the middle ages.
sayana (vidyaranya) the patron saint of Vijayanagar was fromthe south
Nagarjuna (and some sayDharmakirti) the buddhist savants were from the south
the andhras fought in the mahabharata (on the wrongside !)
the capital of the satavahana empire was eventually moved to Guntur
the jains were big in the south - Gomateswarastatuein MYsore
