When I went to Engineering college in 1975,
the open category was 50%.
The entrance criterion was gerrymandered to limit brahmins to 20%
The cut off for brahmins was 95% in math-physics-chemistry
the cut off for non-brahmins was 90% in math-physics-chemistry
Out of the 80% non-brahmins, 50% were OBC-Dwijas, 30% were MBC and 20% SC
In academic performance, the OBC-Dwijas did as well as the brahmins
The MBC did somewhat worse , but passed
The SC mostly did not pass and repeated several years
