i know why you have the soft corner for the gandhi - cos you are/were in the indian army - the one indian entity after the civil servants that has always been "nehru-ised". i have noted this in all army types and/or their kids.
btw, bose was the youngest president of the indian national congress, not gandhi. and bose then again defeated the candidate, whom gandhi pitted against bose. thats when gandhi went on a hunger strike, since the fair-and-square result in Nataji's favour didnt please him. So netaji gave up the president-ship and let the crybaby have his way.
gandhi has been accepted as world leader for the same reason gandhi wasa a name to reckon with in the first place - since the enlish preferred him over the person they really were scared of. it suited them to have gandhi and not bose as a popular figure and both the national and international popularity of gandhi is due their social engineering. btw, mussaraf was also accepted as world leader in the global fight against terror !!
(meanwhile Aurobindo, or Tilak or Sardar patel or Sarvarkar or Bose havent been accepted as world leaders - so they must be lesser men than gandhi and that internationalist nehru, right?? Nehru is to Gandhi what Lenin is to Marx.)
india simply cant unite under the legacies of people who
1) divided india into 2 (3 actually)
2) went soft on both the muslims and english - our two oppressors
3) started a dynasty instead of a democracy.
the only thing i give gandhi credit for is the social reforms he suggested, the gram panchayat he advocated and for what he did for the backward castes.
finally for the ahimsha crap he preached, i have to conclude that "bande main tha RUM"
