Netaji convincingly defeated Pattabhi Seetaramaiya (founder of Andhra Bank) who was Gandhi's candidate. (was it in Tripura 1939?)
Now, instead of respecting the norms of democratic process, Gandhiji sat down for hunger strike, until the winning candidate Netaji had to resign. Does that not speak volumes too - for how much respect Gandhiji had for the spirit of democracy?
