OTH if they were westward migrating tribes of Dom that could be another explanation. Has any one studied the Dommari/Banjara tribals and the Roma people? What I find difficult is to associate them with Rajputs. They might even be from before the Islamic invasions. The descriptions of their theogony (Varuna etc) speaks of Vedic gods.
