Guriya is not alone. "My co-villager Meena Devi gave birth to a child right beside the road to this relief camp," said Kunti Devi, a resident of Sonebarsa block. Angry villagers of Lagna panchayat blocked the road at Sonebarsa village refusing to allow boats being transported on trucks to proceed to Madhepura. "Women of our village are still trapped. We are demanding that they be first shifted to safer places," said Raj Kishore Yadav.
At Sour Bazar market, Sanjay Kumar, a college student, was distributing biscuits among the flood victims. People jostled against one another for a Rs 5 packet of biscuits. "Quite a large number of women arriving from flooded areas are expectant mothers," said Sanjay who has distributed 300 packets of biscuits during the last two days.
