Respected Madam / Sir,

Subject : Brutal Murder of Whistleblower Satish Shetty of Pune District.

Reference : Several newspaper reports including Times of India, Indian Express, Mid-Day, Hindu, Pune Mirror.

Shri Satish Shetty, 38 years old, was killed by swords by unidentified masked attackers while he was taking a walk yesterday at about 7 am near Talegaon. The murder triggered instant protests in the city with shop owners in the Panchavati and Jijamata chowk area downing shutters in protest. Only last week, Shetty had filed a complaint that a two-wheeler had tried to run him over at Jijamata chowk in Talegaon. He had also applied for police protection which was under process.

Shetty had exposed several major land scams in the Talegaon-Lonavala region, involving wrongful gains of about Rs.4,000 crores; apart from several other frauds, illegal constructions & black marketeering in kerosene. Earlier, he had also exposed certain corrupt land deals in & around the Mumbai-Pune expressway.

Shetty had dedicated his life to helping people, to public causes & to improving governance by using RTI, filing criminal complaints & petitioning courts. Shetty was a genuine social worker & an iconic anti-corruption crusader, hence the nation owes itself justice delivery on a war footing.

We pray for the following actions :

1) Identification of accused on a war-footing & their arrest.

2) Proper collection of evidence & witness protection.

3) Adequate police custody and unbiased investigation.

4) Timely submission of charge-sheet. No police delay.

5) Timely trial & conviction. No judicial delay.

6) Exemplary punishment to anyone who tries to protect the accused.

Yours truly,

<img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> On March 8, Shivasankaran decided to surrender before Raja. STel officials, who reached Raja’s residence for truce with company letter pads, were forced to sign the prepared compromise draft, which was then presented to the Supreme Court by Attorney General Vahanvati. Sadly for Raja, all the manoeuvring came to a naught, with the apex court refusing to provide him any relief.

STel is the only firm that wrote to the Prime Minister, offering a whopping figure of Rs 16,000 crore for a pan-India licence. But the Prime Minister, who had on November 2, 2007 ordered Raja to stop spectrum allocation, maintained silence on the letter. He continued with his silence even when the Telecom Minister issued licenses at a cheap price of Rs 1,500 crore, fixed back in 2001. The spectrum/licences were issued in 2008 at price fixed in 2001, when only four million subscribers existed. In 2008, the subscribers level had crossed 300 million. http://www.dailypioneer.com/242090/Raja-...moved.html

Quote:The number of people claiming benefits reserved for the poor using the so-called BPL card in some states, such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, exceeds the total number of households.

In other words there are more BPL-card-holding families than the total number of households in the state. And that means people who need assistance — such as low-cost grain — don’t get their share of it.

To be sure, this is not a new trend, but the latest data — as on March 31, 2009 — with the food ministry indicates that the situation has worsened. This is significant in the context of the government’s food security agenda. The implementation of the food security bill without a clean-up would imply largescale leakages.

The BPL card helps obtain benefits under the government’s poverty alleviation schemes as well as to access cheap foodgrains from the public distribution system, subsidised health insurance and scholarships.

According to data from the ministry, in 10 states at least one in two households held a BPL card. In Tamil Nadu and Andhra, the proportion of BPL cardholders to total number of households was 142% and 120.20% respectively.

The number of BPL families is estimated by the Planning Commission based on surveys every five years by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO). Based on the 61st round of NSSO, the Commission classified 28.30% of rural households as BPL.

The CBI had registered the corruption case against Mayawati, questioning how her declared assets of Rs.1 crore in 2003 went up to Rs.50 crore in 2007.

Mayawati had later filed a lawsuit in the apex court in May 2008 seeking scrapping of the criminal proceedings against her in the case alleging it was political vendetta.

Move over artillery gun deals… stamp paper… fodder and other scams! India’s pinnacle of subterfuge will soon belong to a new hustle called offsets on which pliant Indian defence manufacturers are set to ride to riches. Setting the stage for this shakedown is a disinterested Ministry of Defence (MoD), which has artlessly authored a scamster’s delight called the Defence Offset Procedure. http://www.business-standard.com/india/n...am/392456/ same article but w/ some pictures, makes it interesting to read: http://news.in.msn.com/internalsecurity/...069&page=4

Quote:The Indian Air Force has approached the Delhi High Court to recover dues amounting to nearly Rs 54 lakhs from former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda for the use of official aircraft allegedly for non-official purposes.

The force has been trying to recover the dues from the former prime minister since 1996-97 when the alleged use of the IAF planes was made for purposes other than official, a series of RTI replies show.

"It is mentioned that Chandrashekhar, P V Narasimha Rao, H D Deve Gowda and V C Shukla had availed airlift facilities of IAF for non-official purposes during their tenure as Prime Ministers and Cabinet Minister," IAF had said in an RTI reply in 2008.

According to IAF, it has to recover dues of about Rs 5.91 crore from Chandrashekhar, Rs 54.61 lakh from Deve Gowda and Rs 4.60 lakh from former Union Minister V C Shukla. It had said the amount was due from their "political parties".

"A case for recovery of outstanding amount against former Prime Minister H D Devegowda for his non-official use of IAF aircraft during his tenure as PM is pending in the court of Registrar, High Court of Delhi. The case is at an admission stage. The next date of hearing in July 1, 2010," the IAF said in the RTI reply dated June 23, 2010 on the

issue.

The force said Defence Ministry has resorted to various legal and administrative measures including filing of civil suits to recover the amount.

The civil suit filed against Chandrashekhar in Delhi High Court in 2001 has been dismissed on January 24, 2008 as he passed away.

Sources in the bureaucracy said it was an accepted “fact” that touts run banks and police stations. Their rates are fixed: for a bank loan, 2 per cent of the loan amount; for an FIR, Rs 3,000; and for clearing pensions, Rs 500.

BSP insiders said the ruling party would organise awareness camps at all blocks to tell people not to take the help of touts. http://www.telegraphindia.com/1100710/js...667917.jsp

Social worker Sandeep Pandey said it was a positive step. “Touts are a menace in every district,” said the Magsaysay award winner. “But the government should first try to root out corruption in the offices of ministers, ruled by touts, to set an example.”

Horlicks Scandal

Quote:Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers MK Alagiri is embroiled in a fresh controversy – Horlicks scandal. The Minister recently distributed about 9,000 packets of Horlicks as freebies at a medical camp. The Horlicks packets are now being allegedly linked to robbery of the health drink packets being transported from Haryana on a truck six days before the medical camp. The truck was looted close to the medical camp site in Andipatti in Tamil Nadu.

Commonwealth Games will be a proud moment for India: PM

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sport...313816.cms

Quote:Asking people to treat the Commonwealth Games as a national festival, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday exuded confidence that the country will successfully host the October event, preparations for which have been plagued by controversies.

"The Commonwealth Games will start in Delhi after about one-and-a-half months. This will be a proud moment for the whole country and especially for Delhi," Singh said addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

"I am convinced that all our countrymen will treat the Games as a national festival and will leave no stone unturned to make them a success," he said.

The Prime Minister said a successful Delhi Games would also be a signal that India is rapidly marching ahead.

"The successful organisation of Commonwealth Games would be another signal to the world that India is rapidly marching ahead with confidence," he said.

The preparations for Commonwealth Games have been marred by a spate of corruption charges and delay in construction works following which the Prime Minister stepped in and gave overriding powers to a committee of secretaries to supervise the event.

Observing that there have been slippages in time schedules and deficiencies, Singh yesterday directed thorough probes into complaints of procedural and other irregularities by the ministries concerned and said that those found guilty should face severe and exemplary punishment.

I dont think this guy is even aware of whats going on in india. How the hell can we be proud of these games if its filled with corruption and poor quality work everywhere? Shame on indians, look at how china conducted their olympic games.

Latest update after Swiss Bank has agreed to disclose the funds.

Our Indian's Money - 70, 00,000 Crores Rupees In Swiss Bank

1) Yes, 70 lakhs crores rupees of India are lying in Switzerland banks. This is the highest amount lying outside any country, from amongst 180 countries of the world, as if India is the champion of Black Money.

2) Swiss Government has officially written to Indian Government that they are willing to inform the details of holders of 70 lakh crore rupees in their Banks, if Indian Government officially asks them.

3) On 22-5-08, this news has already been published in The Times of India and other Newspapers based on Swiss Government's official letter to Indian Government.

4) But the Indian Government has not sent any official enquiry to Switzerland for details of money which has been sent outside India between 1947 to 2008.. The opposition party is also equally not interested in doing so because most of the amount is owned by politicians and it is every Indian's money.

5) This money belongs to our country. From these funds we can repay 13 times of our country's foreign debt. The interest alone can take care of the Center s yearly budget. People need not pay any taxes and we can pay Rs. 1 lakh to each of 45 crore poor families.

6) Let us imagine, if Swiss Bank is holding Rs. 70 lakh Crores, then how much money is lying in other 69 Banks? How much they have deprived the Indian people? Just think, if the Account holder dies, the bank becomes the owner of the funds in his account.

7) Are these people totally ignorant about the philosophy of Karma? What will this ill-gotten wealth do to them and their families when they own/use such money, generated out of corruption and exploitation?

8) Indian people have read and have known about these facts. But the helpless people have neither time nor inclination to do anything in the matter. This is like "a new freedom struggle" and we will have to fight this.

9) This money is the result of our sweat and blood.. The wealth generated and earned after putting in lots of mental and physical efforts by Indian people must be brought back to our country.

Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj, who was part of the team to select the next CVC, raised this issue at the meeting that cleared Mr Thomas’ name. “I had told the meeting that it will not be proper to appoint a person whose name figured in a vigilance case as CVC. If they feel that Mr Thomas merits a post-retirement job, they should have considered him for some other assignment,” Ms Swaraj said. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news...503151.cms

But what could make his tenure more controversial is that one of the major tasks of the CVC is to unravel the 2G spectrum scandal. There have been reports of the telecom department under Mr Thomas trying to place hurdles before a CVC probe.
