By ANI

<b>Pak journalist in spot over Amarinder, fatwa </b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Chandigarh (PTI): As her "proximity" with former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh caused flutters, Pakistani journalist Aroosa Alam on wednesday said the relationship was only a friendship, and that she "is definitely not an ISI agent".

But the matter doesn't seem to be ending with that. As the Pakistani journalist addressed the media, Maulana Mabibur Rehman Shahi Imam, Jama Masjid Ludhiana, issued a fatwa in Ludhiana on wednesday calling for her social boycott by Muslims.

<b>The Shahi Imam said the tenets of Islam did not permit a woman to move about or keep company with any man other than her blood relations (father, mother and son). </b>

Only on Tuesday, Punjab's Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal had said that Amarinder Singh should be concerned about her image vis-a-vis his relationship with the Pakistani journalist.

Clearly overawed by media coverage, Aroosa, who is president of the Islamabad chapter of South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA), said: "I do not know how such a controversy (her relationship and the allegation of her being an ISI agent) was created."

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>My friendship with Amarinder a non-issue: Aroosa Alam </b>

Zeenews Bureau
Chandigarh, Dec 26: In an attempt to clear the controversy regarding her alleged ‘affair’ with former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Aroosa Alam, a 50-yr old Pakistani journalist called a press conference at the Chandigarh Press Club on Wednesday.

Alam, who is also the President of South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA), appeared composed as she answered questions posed by journalists. She called Amarinder Singh a “good friend” and said that she respects him for his wisdom and vision. She said that the Captain is very popular in Pakistan for his good work. She emphatically stated that, “We are friends and will always remain so.”

She revealed that she has always been foremost in promoting peace between India and Pakistan, but she has been drawn into a baseless controversy.

She said that she likes India, as the two countries are very much alike. Through SAFMA she has always tried to improve relations between the countries. She wondered why such a hue and cry was being raised over her friendship with Captain Amarinder Singh.

Aroosa felt that her relationship with the Captain should in fact have been applauded, as they are two friendly individuals from two ‘not-so-friendly’ nations. She added that she has met the Captain’s mother and sister and has asked about their welfare.

Taking a defiant turn, she attacked the Indian media for invading her private life. She said, “We should always respect each other’s privacy. I think Pakistani media is far more liberal than Indian journalists. The Pakistani media doesn’t delve into personal affairs of its politicians.” She also added that there seems to be some political motive over this unsavoury controversy.

This month, she came from across the border to visit former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Since then there has been a flood of accusations, controversies and about her close association with Singh.

In the State Assembly, an Akali MLA went to the extent of blaming Amarinder of being intimate with an “ISI agent”. A section of the Akali leadership also demanded a discussion on this matter of “grave threat to India’s internal security”.

The duo had met in 2004, when Captain was on a trip to Pakistan. There he met Aroosa Alam, daughter of Akleen Akhtar, popularly known in Pakistan as Rani General, a socialite who had considerable influence on Pakistan polity of 1970s.

Alam has two sons. Her elder son is a lawyer in London and her younger son is a rap musician and a popular television host in Pakistan. Singer Adnan Sami is her nephew.

Alam had earlier admitted that she was in India along with her elder son, a 33-year-old lawyer from London, when Punjab was going to the polls. Amarinder Singh became the target of allegations when he disappeared from the campaign scene for about a week to escort his friends from Pakistan to Ajmer.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Aroosa defends friendship with Amarinder </b>
PNS/ Agencies | Chandigarh
Pakistani journalist Aroosa Alam on Wednesday defended her friendship with former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh following media reports that she is about to marry him.

Aroosa strongly denied that she had no plans to marry Amarinder. However, she justified her friendship with him saying that he was a gentleman and very popular in Pakistan.

Aroosa said there was nothing unusual about the friendship. She said she was a family friend of Amarinder Singh and also met his wife Perneet Kaur during her visit to Patiala on Tuesday.

<b>Three SAD legislators have challenged Amarinder Singh to persuade Maharani Perneet Kaur to endorse the legitimacy of relationship with the controversial Pakistani national.</b>

Aroosa said she "is definitely not an ISI agent". Clearly overawed by media coverage, Aroosa, who is president of the Islamabad chapter of South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA), said: "I do not know how such a controversy (her relationship and the allegation of her being an ISI agent) was created." "Amarinder Singh is a wise man, a man with a vision, a charming person, has a good stature and is known in Pakistan," Aroosa, who is in her fifties, repeatedly told mediapersons at the press conference.

For the Indian media, which she said has intruded into her private life, she said: "Do you want that I should stop breathing? You can end the controversy. I had been coming to India even before I met Amarinder, but was never described as an ISI agent."

"We are journalists and should accept privacy of individuals," she said.

Aroosa, who has two children, tried to steer clear of the controversy. <b>"I had said in a lighter vein that Amarinder was a charming personality. I would have no hesitation in marrying him since Shariat does not allow that. I did not know you would take it seriously," </b>she replied to a correspondent.

It would have been better, she said, if she had been left alone. "Dus ghar to dain bhi chod deti hai, (even a ghost leaves ten houses). You can realise what problems I can face in Pakistan," she said.

Aroosa said, "It is strange in India the media hits below the belt." When reminded that the controversy was started by a Pakistan newspaper, Aroosa said, "I agree a Pak newspaper did it as there is a reason for that".

She said she was among those who had opposed the efforts of the newspaper to grab the land allotted to a housing society of journalists in Islamabad. "The owner had some grudge against me and the paper came out with the story after a Pak journalist had returned after a visit to Indian Punjab."

She said no other newspaper in Pakistan carried the story, but in India all newspapers lifted it and called her and Amarinder Singh ISI agents. "This is unfair," she said. <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->SHAHI IMAM ISSUES FATWA AGAINST AROOSA
Ludhiana December 27,2007
Source : Punjab Mail Online

Compounding problems for Aroosa Alam, the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Ludhiana, today pronounced the ''fatwa'' against her for her proximity with the former Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh.

He called upon the Sikh clergy in the state to ask Capt Amarinder Singh about his relationship with Aroosa. “He should tell us whether he has turned a Muslim or she has changed her religion”. He even claimed that during the Captain's visits to England and Dubai, he was seen with Aroosa instead of his wife and MP Perneet Kaur.

While pronouncing the edict, Habib-ur-Rehman Saani, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, religious centre of the Muslims in the state, said Aroosa had violated the Sheriat law by visiting a man without being accompanied by any male relative.

Terming her stay with an “unrelated man” as an “unforgivable sin,” the Imam called for her social boycott. The fatwa, a copy of which is with reads: “It is a mortal sin for any woman to stay with an unrelated man. If a Muslim woman cannot even go to haj without her husband, brother or son, how can she stay with an unrelated man?”

The Islam does not permit man-woman friendship. If a Muslim woman has illicit relations with a man, she should be lynched. “Had she been in Saudi Arabia, she would have been stoned by now,” said the Imam.

Quoting reports from a Pakistani newspaper, Roznama-e-Jinnah, the Shahi Imam said Capt Amarinder Singh went to meet her thrice when he was the Chief Minister. He gifted her a house worth crores in F-Block of Islamabad. He even gifted a luxury car to her daughter.{ Now every Indian Punjab CM should stay at islamabad's F-Block house whenever they visit pakisatan. BTW why is it named F-Block, any clues}

The Shahi Imam claimed that she did not belong to a very respectable family in Pakistan. “Aroosa's mother was better known as ‘General Queen’ due to her relations with Gen Yahya Khan. She has spoiled at least 10 homes in her country and now she is trying to do so in Punjab”.

He said he would call upon the Muslim clergy in Pakistan to excommunicate her.

The Shahi Imam urged the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Punjab to initiate a high-level probe into Aroosa's visits to the state. He suspected that she might be an ISI agent, who was purposely targeting Capt Amarinder Singh, who was well versed with the security and defence installations in the country.

“This looks like a very well calculated move and we should all take it very seriously,” said the Shahi Imam. <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

SHAHI IMAM ISSUES FATWA AGAINST AROOSA

So this is real reason for the angry reaction of this mullah rather than national security.

This person does not have any legal authority to dictate what a muslim woman should do or should not do. This self-styled 'shahi imam' wants to be the next Taliban chief Mullah Omar.

This lunatic Imam should be prosecuted by law for calling for a murder of a woman.

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Harshvardan - not meaning to scare you with the unpleasantness of reality - but in various Arabian islamic countries muslim women marrying out of their religion is indeed a hanging offense <i>in practise</i> (not just in islamic theory). Back in the 90s I saw a documentary that was in part about this.
(And death-by-stoning is the islamic punishment accorded to adultery, though sometimes the women are hung for the same instead. In islam, being raped is also considered adultery - but various Iranian girls and women were hung not stoned-to-death for what happened to them.)
But I didn't know that muslims of India had started following the same. Probably the calls for death must be boldly going out in India nowadays because islamis feel confident that the country is slowly being turned into mooghalistan.

So yes, the imam is indeed a lunatic - but only because he is in fact following loony islam properly. We may protest that calling for her death is inhumane, but we can't argue that it is unislamic.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->This person does not have any legal authority to dictate what a muslim woman should do or should not do.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->It is definitely against secular law.
But it is not against islamic law but rather in accordance with the same. In islamic law, islamis think they have jurisdiction over what their female population may and may not do and they think they have the right to punish them for such 'unpardonable crimes' like associating with a kaffir male or committing suspected adultery with a fellow islamic male. According to islami-theology they have the right to punish members of the ummah in this way. And their best friends in realising this humanly insupportable 'right' are the pseculars who will want the real law to appease the minority by letting them have their islamic way. Rather like how they have implemented the double-standard treatment of Tasleema Nasreen.
Today Nasreen is openly sidelined in psecular India, tomorrow's more psecular-than-ever India will facilitate the public hanging of a muslim woman who has any alliance with any non-muslim. (In the hoped-for mooghalistan there will be no kaffirs remaining, so pseculars need no longer have any worries.)

In Saudi courts, a daughter is a father's property, if she does whaterver to displease him, he can kill her, and say I did it to keep her within the limits of Islam. Judge cannot do squat.
