True, and they do it behind the scene. Being a national party, BJP can not do it openly with either of the two major parties.

May be VHP should take that initiative and route Hindu votes to appropriate candidates who support their view.

The eagerness with which both the Congress and the CPI(M), as well as their allies, have voted for the resolution reflects their craving for Muslim votes at any cost.</b>

Madani, a Friday preacher known for his fanatical espousal of hardline Islam, floated the <b>Islamic Sevak Sangh in 1990 </b>to mobilise opposition to the Ram Janambhoomi movement. <b>When that organisation was banned in 1992, he floated the PDP </b>and with the help of a communal agenda established it in the Travancore belt of Kerala. <b>He lost a leg in a bomb explosion.</b>

<b>On February 14, 1998, serial explosions masterminded by Al Ummah rocked the venue of Mr LK Advani's rally in Coimbatore minutes before the BJP leader's arrival, killing 59 people.</b> Mr Advani narrowly escaped the attack.

Investigations revealed that Madani had provided shelter to those who carried out the bombings, including <b>Ooma Babu alia Majid.</b><b> He was also in contact with Pakistan's ISI and involved with training Al Ummah activists in terrorism.</b>

Kerala Police arrested Madani on March 31, 1998, for making provocative speeches. He was subsequently handed over to Tamil Nadu Police who booked him for the Coimbatore terror attack.

Since then, Madani has been relentlessly trying to secure bail, but his appeals have been turned down by the courts, including the Supreme Court which rejected his bail plea as recently as January 2005.

Unable to secure bail, Madani has switched tactics. He now claims that he is being denied medical assistance by the Tamil Nadu Government. When that claim was cold-shouldered, the Kerala Assembly moved in with its March 15 resolution.

NEW DELHI: An unpublicised survey of the five election-bound states commissioned by Congress sends home depressing tidings.

Conducted last week by a renowned Hyderabad-based professional group for the internal consumption of the party strategists, the gallup poll predicts severe setbacks in the coming round of assembly polls, with the party poised to win only in the tiny Pondicherry.

While the survey confirms that the party stands no chance in West Bengal and will be hard put to finish ahead of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamul Congress, it predicts a big win for the CPM-led alliance in Kerala. In Assam, too, the prospects are not too sunny, with the poll forecasting that Congress may fail to get a majority. As for Tamil Nadu, it says that chief minister Jayalalitha has recovered considerable ground since her rout in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls to throw the battle wide open.

Sources in the party acknowledged that the findings, based on a representative sample of voter soundings, were a cause of serious concern. Worried over such gloomy prognosis and realising the impact that such a poor performance can have on the prestige of the UPA government at the Centre, party strategists have scrambled to tweak the campaign and to repair the cracks highlighted by the pollsters.

It has decided to focus on Assam. The findings suggest that incumbency disadvantage has not been wiped out by AGP’s refusal to partner BJP. It, however, also suggests that Congress has a fighting chance to breast the tape on its own strength.

No such chance in Kerala, though. The pollsters have predicted that the party’s hope of pulling off a repeat of 1977 when it retained power is not going to materialise.

KOLKATA: <b>For the first time in the electoral history of West Bengal, the Election Commission today filed a complaint with the police against senior CPI(M) leader and state Transport minister Subhas Chakraborty for allegedly making ‘threatening’ statements against government officials on poll duty.</b>

“We have received a written complaint from CEO against Subhas Chakraborty and the case has been registered under section 186 of IPC," a police official at the Lake Town police station said .

Asked about the next course of action against the senior leader, state Chief Secretary A K Deb said an investigation would be conducted on the basis of the complaint.

To a question, he said the compliance report to EC would be sent by the Chief Electoral Officer. The written complaint, filed on behalf of CEO Debashis Sen, came following an EC directive to him last night. The compliance report has to be sent by April 6.

Sen returned from Delhi on Wednesday after attending a meeting with the EC.

If he found guilty under section 186 of IPC, he may have to undergo three months of imprisonment or pay fine of Rs 500 or both.

i dont think it will be possible to beat cpim though - cos that mamata bannerjee dont know how to play her cards well. besides congress in wb has only one good candidate in her and no other. bjp had won one seat last time if i remember right. so even tho that low life anil biswas died (scoundrel number one), it may not be possible to stop cpim. the only silver lining is that BB is qyite good, among india's best cfief ministers now. its incredible how one man, jyoti basu single handedly ruined a state.

The Election Commission (EC) today procured the CD of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s speech at Dongkamokam of Karbi Anglong, where he allegedly announced an economic package violating the model code of conduct.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Asom J B Prakash today told newspersons that the CD was being sent to the Election Commission (EC) for further action.

The BJP had lodged a complaint in this regard and the Prime Minister’s office as well as the Congress had denied that any such economic package was announced.

Taking the fight to Election Commission’s doorsteps, the BJP yesterday pressed for “suitable punitive and corrective action” against the Prime Minister for violating the model code of conduct. — UNI

Later in this month I will vote, that will the first time I will be voting.

Now lets analyse the options I have to vote :

1. Candidate 1 from Congress ,I presume , a party which claims to have struggled for indian freedom but at a time imposed emergency in state for their own benefit , now in power in center , doing a job ok with a colations boat sailing high like the raging bulls in the stock market. It seems that the stock market is deciding ecomnomics of leading a country.So , voting credibility depends on local area politics and the person who the face of the party

Candidate 2 , from the much famed TMC which managed hold on one seat in the last lokh Shaba polls which was result of extreme mismanagement by the lady who leads it. The lady leading the party seems to be as whimsical as greg Chappell is with his batting orded. So , Can i trust them with my precious vote ? Naah, I hate greg chappell , and I hate that Lady !

Cadidate 3, is from the party in power, the hailed as the great communist facade.To analyse them is a very hard job for me , I havent seen any one else in  writers since my birth.It seems we have come to position where I think we hardly think we need a change.

Hence , you might presume where my precious vote goes to.

Actually , the roots of the ruling party in Bengal is deep rooted. To quote LS speaker Somnath Chatterjee had once said to a question about what the party did for people. He said when a girl child was born in the village , a party worker would plant a mahagony sapling in the courtyard , so that after 20 years that sapling transformed into the tree would bear the cost of the girls future!

This is the power of poeple , the power of organising.People say Bengal is stuck , actually it is more of stable necessity a person needs to progress.Progress doesnt always mean availability of twin ton a/c's in every urban homes.Progress in bengal means a small village worker has earned the right to work , right to leave a life <!--emo&:blink:--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blink.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

Progress doesnt always come with builing fancy flyovers and brilliant roads ...yes that is a part of progress i agree. GUWAHATI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday predicted a change in the national political scenario if AGP wrests power in Dispur for the third time upstaging the ruling Congress in the current two-phase assembly polls in Assam.

"We are working for an anti-Congress and anti-BJP third front, comprising regional and Left-wing parties," said Mulayam. "We want a Brindaban Goswami-led AGP government in Assam.

AGP will win this election and create an impact in national politics," Yadav said, while replying to a query on Friday whether there will be mid-term Lok Sabha polls after the assembly elections in five states.

Endorsing Yadav's forecast, former AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said, "The Brahmaputra looks very mild, but a strong undercurrent runs beneath its surface."

On infiltration from Bangladesh, Yadav said people of the country were fed up with Congress and BJP, and the time has come to provide an alternative.

Justifying the need for an alternative front, Naidu said the country has become pro-Bush. "Why did the Congress effect a sudden policy change? Is Sonia Gandhi behind it?"

"Sonia is attacking AGP here and not BJP," Naidu drove home his point that two parties were following an identical pro-Washington line in voting against Iran at the IAEA.

"Assam is rich in natural and human resources, but it is still backward. Congress is responsible for Assam's backwardness. Have they (Congress) implemented the Assam Accord?" he asked.

Actually Kerala had a Muslim League CM for some time. I think it was in late 1970s, C H Muhammad Koya of Muslim League became CM for few days. I'm not sure who supported him from outside.
