The state government and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) have locked horns over Taj Mahal. While the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board has reiterated its stand on the ownership of Taj Mahal, senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon has said that Waqf Board cannot even pay salaries to its employees and how can it take care of such a monuments which has international repute.
The state minister Azam Khan has already said that Taj Mahal is a grave and as per Muslim law grave yard is the property of Waqf. He said that Taj should be handed over to the UP Sunni Waqf Board as it is a grave yard. `Taj is a Kabristan and therefore it should come under the control of Waqf Board', said he.
According to a member of the UP Sunni Waqf Board a notice has been sent to the Union Government as well as Archeological Survey of India (ASI) giving time till April 19 asking it to start the process of handing over the Taj Mahal to the board. The board has said that state government has supported its move and very soon a broader consensus will be made in this regard.
Mr Tandon has said that Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has all the infrastructures to take care of such monuments and hence Taj is safe in its hands. Commenting on UP Sunni Waqf Board demand of handing it over Taj Mahal, Mr Tandon said that this board cannot even wash the historical monuments. It may be mentioned that Sunni Waqf Board in Up has been facing acute financial crunch and its employees are not being paid salaries regularly.
According to the board members, those advocating for ASI's claim on Taj Mahal must remember that dozens of buildings maintained by this body is under the possession of board. `Let ASI maintain and look after the Taj Mahal but the control should be that of the Sunni Waqf Board', said a member.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Kabar is in center, white marble structure and mosques (Red stone ) are on both side, outside tomb. So called real kabar is in basement quater. Replica is on ground floor level.

Emblems of power were an everyday Mughal obsession. What could not be stated openly, was left to the metaphor of stone as a constant reminer. Theambiguity between Divine throne and royal throne (an unbridled vanity) transformed tombs
and monuments into symbols of glory during imperialism and called for the laying out of gardens, replicas of the Qurâanic paradise. Hence it is a "religious" (imperial for some others) symbol.
Has Waqf Board raised this Taj issue in past? Or they pushing it because of the so called 'seculars' at the center who might just deliver the moon with the Taj if they only ask?
Or the 'seculars' have an agenda of keeping NDA tied down on this one issue?
Any ideas on the timing pertaining to this issue?

Rampant misappropriation of property and corruption in management of auqaf (Muslim trusts) properties in UP is not a new phenomenon<b>. Unscrupulous mutawallis (trustees) have been misusing the auqaf properties since long. </b>
Properties worth billions of rupees have been disposed of on throw-away prices with connivance of the administration. Not only the mutawallis have been selling this precious land but even governments do not lag behind in illegally occupying auqaf properties and using it according to their own will without bothering to follow the law of the land. According to a rough estimate, there are about <b>1,28,000 Sunni and about 9,000 Shia auqaf in UP</b>.
In Lucknow, the Shia auqaf properties are higher in number, their value running in billions of rupees, perhaps due to Lucknow's Shia nawabs' munificence. <b>Many government buildings, including the Raj Bhawan (it was Kothi Farhatbakhsh), are actually waqf properties. When asked about the action of UPSWB if the ASI decided against handing over the possession of the monument, he said that in that case, the board shall move the Supreme Court and get its possession restored as the board has managed to obtain copies of the original will of Emperor Shahjahan which is stored in the London Museum, besides some more documentation proving the Taj Mahal as a Wakf property.
Notably, the <b>Taj Mahal earns more than 15 crore rupees every year </b>as ticketing income from tourists and besides historic evidence, the UPSWB claim on the monument also seems to be driven from the fact that <b>the board gets a seven percent cut on the income of every Wakf property in the state </b>and in the case of the Taj, this income could be in the tune of crores of rupees every year, which could help the cash-strapped UPSWB a great deal.
