The book's author S Hussain Zaidi talks about how, at a top secret meeting held just before the blasts at Dawood's mansion in Dubai, the head honchos of Islamic terrorism, including Dawood, his brother Anis, Tiger Memon and certain PLO leaders, ironed out the nitty gritties of the terror attack on Mumbai.
The brigade tabled various options before zeroing in on rocking Mumbai with covert landings of explosives on Indian shores. Among the first suggestions tabled in this chamber was the assassination of BJP chief L K Advani and Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.
Zaidi writes that a man who seemed to be a Palestinian, said his operatives could easily breach Thackeray's security, "whenever we want to snuff his life out." He added: "Thackeray and Advani can be killed by just one handshake or one garland. That will be sufficient to despatch them to the pit of hell." Warned of the tight security cordon around the two leaders and the impossibility of reaching even within a kilometer of them, the man thundered that PLO had the means to achieve the impossible. "We have ways and means of doing it, and you people don't deserve to know them. But if worse comes to worst, we can always buy out one of the policemen around him and pay him fantastic sums to have the job done," he told the audience.
He also took a cue from the Amal militia in Lebanon, that stormed into the houses of Christians with truckloads of explosives to suggest that Advani's end could be brought about by storming an RDX-laden truck into his residence.
Zaidi also mentions that the plan had to be dropped after much debate and fears of an uncontrollable backlash on Indian Muslims.
The first to dissent was Shaikh Ahmad who said: "You are assuming that your men can get close to Thackeray and Advani. That is impossible: They will not get anywhere within several kilometres of him."
Next was Tiger Memon who came up with an argument few could dispute: "The Hindus will turn them (Advani and Thackeray) into Godlike figures and Muslims throughout India will be massacred. No. No. No. This cannot happen."
He, in turn, was countered by an Arab fundamentalist, who said that Muslims had the power to annihilate "non-believers." Even as he held everyone in sway, Anis pointed out that 60 crore Hindus in India couldn't be finished and that the UN and "India's mentor, Russia", wouldn't stay silent.
Ahmed said: "The best thing to do will be to turn the tables on Hindus. If we can intimidate Hindus in such a manner that in the future they will not in their wildest dreams try to subjugate the Muslims..." he said.
After a long discussion on whether to go for the assassination, Dawood Ibrahim finally opted for blasting the financial hub of India and, thus, creating a spectacle of terror in Indian minds that would stay forever.

A new twist has been added to the war of words in the Best Bakery case, which is being heard in the Supreme Court.
Key witness in the case, Zaheera Sheikh has now launched an attack on the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
In an affidavit filed today she has asked for their records on the case to be examined.
Zaheera also sought permission for her lawyer to cross-examine the Chairman of the NHRC, Justice A S Anand.
Changing statements
The Best Bakery case was transferred out of Gujarat in 2004 after Zaheera refused to recognise any one of the 21 accused, leading to their acquittal.
Social activist Teesta Setalvad had by then become Zaheera's spokesperson. At the new trial, Zaheera changed her statement and implicated all the earlier accused.
But in a startling revelation, Zaheera later retracted her statement, saying she had been tutored by Setalvad.
Heights of hostility
With the hostility towards her former mentor reaching new heights, Zaheera today also demanded a probe into all bank accounts in the name of Setalvad.
Setalvad on her part has said that she is ready for any investigation into her bank accounts and that of her relatives.
With all these allegations and counter allegations, one of the most high profile cases of the Gujarat riots still seems a long way from getting resolved. <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Questioning the veracity of a petition by the National Human Rights Commission on the Gujarat riots, Best Bakery case star witness Zaheera Sheikh has sought before the Supreme Court appointed probe Committee an opportunity to cross-examine the NHRC chairperson as well as a probe into the wealth of social activist Teesta Setalvad.
This has been stated by Zaheera in an affidavit filed before the Committee headed by Registrar General B M Gupta who, along with Kanwaljeet Deol, has been assigned the task of finding the truth behind the alleged conflicting statements made by Zaheera and Setalvad in the Best Bakery case.
It was on the petitions of NHRC and Setalvad that the Apex Court had started monitoring the post-Godhra riots cases and it was alleged by Zaheera that her statements made before the NHRC were doctored and placed before the Supreme Court, which had set aside the acquittal of all 21 accused before ordering fresh trial of the case at Mumbai.
Accusing Setalvad of "tutoring her" in the matter prior to her deposition before the Commission, Zaheera said in a sworn affidavit that "I was taken to the office of NHRC and was made to say orally what Teesta had told me to say."
Zaheera said her so-called statement produced by the NHRC before the Apex Court during the hearing on Gujarat riots cases was not what she said orally before the Commission and requested the Committee to summon the records of the human rights body on this aspect.
Stating that the chairperson of the Commission and two members took part in the recording of her statement, Zaheera said "<b>I would like my lawyer to examine the chairman of the NHRC in respect of her statement, which formed part of the affidavit filed on behalf of the human rights body."</b>
Giving details of the manner in which Setalvad allegedly marketed the Gujarat riots to get pecuniary advantage from abroad, the witness said "Neither Teesta nor her husband is running any NGO called Communal Combat, which is a business venture of a company or firm known as Sabrang Publication.
"I and Best Bakery were the symbols to ensure money collected in the name of Combat Communalism," she said.
"My lawyers tell me that this is a device to avoid Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. Had it been an NGO, every foreign contribution would have been disclosed after giving information to the Union Home Ministry... it is a disguise to cover-up receipts of foreign contributions," she said and added that the bank pass books of Teesta, her husband and Sabrang Publications needed careful examination.
Zaheera also took a dig at the U.S. State Department reports for 2003-04 presenting Best Bakery as a "notorious case" depicting a communalised Gujarat.
The U.S State Department has set aside several lakhs of dollars for funding litigation aimed at bringing legal redress to Muslims in Gujarat, she said and added "I am applying to this programme for aid and assistance so that I may be able to explain to the world at large the exploitation in the name of secularism and protection of Muslims by persons like Teesta". <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

More than anything else, the US is using Hindus, India in general and Gujarat in particular as scapegoats for propping up its plummetting popularity (and in fact positive hatred) among <i>Ummah</i> countries.
There is an apt Tamil saying which translates like this: Somebody picked up for free (i.e. stole) a coconut from a shop in the bazaar and offered it to a Ganesha temple on the way.

A Fast Track Court on Tuesday acquitted 47 persons accused in a post-Godhra communal riots case in which one person was killed by a violent crowd.

One person identified as Mohammed Kala was killed by rioters who had also damaged much property in Sainath and town hall areas of Petlad town on March 2, 2003.
