Oct. 21: The differences between the ruling Congress Party and its key alliance partner, the Bodo Peopleâs Front, has started widening with the later threatening to serve an ultimatum of two months for continuing their support to the government.
The differences between the alliance partners are said to have been cropped up over the alleged failure of the ruling Congress government in giving protection to the Bodos during the riot in trouble-torn Northern Assamâs Udalguri and Darrang districts.
Though, BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary refused to make it public but expressed his reservation over the role of the Congress ministers during the riot.
Mr Mohilary, who is meeting Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi here on Wednesday, told reporters that they are demanding CBI probe into the Northern Assam carnage, besides a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakhs to each family which lost its members in the riot. The BPF has also demanded a permanent security arrangement from New Delhi to instill the confidence of the indigenous people in the area.
Earlier during the day, senior BPF MLA Karendra Basumatary told reporters that they are not going to support this government anymore as it has failed in giving protection to the indigenous people of the state. He said: âEven if my party continues to support, I am serving an ultimatum of two months to the ruling party to muster support for their government.â
The differences cropping up in the ruling alliance came to focus on Monday when lone BPF MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmutiary single-handedly stalled the proceedings of the Lok Sabha over the recent incidents of violence in Darrang and Udalguri districts.
The Kokrajhar MPâs act in Parliament has put a question mark over the alliance with the Congress in Assam, as he also indulged in to verbal altercations with senior Congress leaders, loudly protesting the Assam governmentâs âinactionâ during the carnage. Various Bodo organisations have already expressed ire.
