Fatah is a devout Muslim and earnestly believes that Islamic faith in its benign form is compatible with Western civilisation. On this and many other points in his book he is wrong. The importance of his book is that he presents a historical and world view which demands Muslim reform and a rejection of extremist political Islam. On this issue hangs the future balance of Western-Muslim relations. It is up to Muslims to reform their ideology. Fatah and others are demanding a new vision for Islam and if the average Muslim does nothing than they are just as complicit in the current raging fascism of Islam as any delusional Mosque leader, or Western apologist for the 1400 year Muslim jihad.

The great myth is that all Muslims are moderates and only a few extremists tarnish the holy ideology called Islam. It is about as intelligent as saying that for 3 generations from Bismarck to Hitler, all Germans were moderates, more interested in brautwurst und bier, than in world supremacy and that the great unwashed German mass of course did not support Germany's run of dictators from 1865 to 1945. So it goes with Islam.
The benefit of Fatah's book is that is lays bare to ridicule the idea that there is nothing inherently fascistic in political Islam, or that all Muslims just want to be BMW owning tolerants. It is written by a leading Canadian Muslim leader, a co-founder of the Muslim Canadian Council of Toronto, and a person who struggles with fitting Islam into a secular-tolerant Canadian society. And it is quite a struggle.
Fatah is a reformed Pakistani Marxist who rejects Islamic claims to world domination, a one-world Umma, or the establishment of a new Caliphate to safeguard Islam's destiny. Hence the title - Chasing an Illusion or the fantasy of a new Muslim caliphate and the recreation of Islam's so-called mythical golden age. For his trouble and rather considerable courage, he is of course routinely vilified within the Muslim community with Muslim sock-puppets and little minds denigrating his pro Western and liberal attitude.
Fatah's book is a good read because he lays out in rather somber detail, the intolerant and fascist [in the true sense of the word], agenda of extremist political Islam. Islam is of course an ideology, not a faith. This is something that Fatah a practicing Muslim would reject. But at least he and others can recognise the inherent fascistic intolerance and will to rule embedded in the Koran and in political Islam.
Fatah is simply sick to death of the intolerant elements of his 'faith'. His book is an attempt to wake up Muslims to the extremist agendas being fostered not only on Muslims, but also on non-Muslims within the West. Fundamentalist Islam is alive and doing very well within Western states. Wahabbist, neo-Salafist, and Anti-Semitic doctrines are common place throughout Mosques in the West.
Few Muslims bother to criticise these practices and fewer still will do anything to try and reform their so-called 'faith'. What kind of ideology is without a reformation, self criticism or searching analysis ? Is it a faith or an intolerant cult ?
Fatah sums up the intolerant nature of Islam: "You have been lied to for centuries. Muslims need to educate themselves about Islam, not proselytize their religion to non-Muslims. It is time for them to read the truth about Islamic history......They should stop glorifying the politicization of Islam, a phenomenon which has produced a panaroma of tragedies and bloodshed..."
The general ignorance of Muslims about Islam is always startling. The ritualised, non-thinking nature of Muslim acceptance of all things in the Koran, or all deeds by Muslims as being worthy, is best described as cultish. The lack of knowledge only abets and emboldens Islam's political criminals.
As Fatah says, "By looking the other way, the intelligentsia and the middle classes have become complicit in these crimes. They justify their inaction as patriotism, where they stand in solidarity with the Islamic state....This rejection of the universality of human rights is not limited to the elites of the world's 56 Islamic countries but is also widespread among the leaders of Muslim organisations."
Muslim supremacy is no surprise. Even inside Islam Arabs are primus inter pares, with a divine right to rule over other Muslims. In any event, Muslims in general [you can't be specific about an ideology], generally agree that they and Islam are superior.
The rejection of such Western niceties as human rights, female emancipation, tolerance for Judaism, acceptance of the 'other' be they black, gay, yellow, religious or secular - is endemic within Islam.
The ideology developed by an Arab political-military leader named Mohammed is quite obviously intolerant and uninterested in anything else but its own aggrandizement. Fatah echoes this criticism, "The Islamic contempt for the West is not an expression of anti imperialism or a reflection of anger against colonialism and its devastating effect. Far from it.....In fact the Islamist disdain for the West is based almost entirely on their rejection of European enlightenment itself - the Renaissance....In short for the jihadi the problem is Western civilisation itself."
The West has always been Islam's problem. The two cultures are completely incompatible. Islam rejects the West's vision of the world one based on law, rationality, plurality, respect, economic integration, tolerance, and order.
Islam's development has never had anything in common with that of the West. Islam is top-down, ritualised, archaic, anti-modern and irrational. Why is anyone surprised by Huntington's bloody borders of Islam ? When Islam comes up against any other culture there is always bloodshed - 300 million dead over 1400 years of Muslim jihad make that fact indisputable. Fatah rightly claims that Mohammed was simply an Arab ruler and head of a burgeoning Arab state. Probably the unification of Arab tribes was inevitable. What was not inevitable was that mad Mohammed [or someone else] would replace the 300 odd moon cult deities with one supreme moon cult deity and infuse Judeo-Christianity into Arab pagan practices to create Islam. Islam is thus the glue to Arab imperialism and later Muslim expansionism. That Mohammed wanted Islam to dominate the globe is undeniable.
But perhaps the modern Muslim can look to reform him or herself and the anti-modern practices of a 7th century cult instead of worrying about the global Umma. What is refreshing about Fatah's book is that he tackles the untouchables within Islam.
Not only does he name Mohammed an Arab head of state he also goes through and calls out the following as examples of Islam backwardness and anti-modern repression:
1. The failed states of the Islamic world - failed due to the implementation of Islamic orthodoxy. He does a great job of analysing Pakistan and the eradication of that country's potential by political Islam.
2. Muslim cultural genocide. A simple example - -ironically according to Fatah 95 % of Mecca's thousand year old development has been demolished by the Saudi authorities [p. 53], yet no Muslim protest, anywhere in the world, has ever been registered against this destruction of Islam's holiest of holy sites. Compare this muted reaction to any activity of a Kaffir or other, even designing or planning to desecrate a Muslim object, let alone engage in a massive cultural eradication in Islam's most important spiritual center. The Muslim hypocrisy reeks. "How can a country bulldoze the grave of the Prophet's daughter, destroy Muhammed's house, build a public toilet inside the house of the Prophet's wife.......Imagine the reaction across the Muslim world if the destruction of the Prophet's home had been blamed on a Jewish conspiracy..."
3. Iran. The prototypical Islamic state is a disaster. The sad state of affairs inside Iran are of course defended with great venom by Western hating apologists and relativists. Yet the real world facts are clear - millions of Iranians are living in a terror state, untold tend of thousands have died there since 1979, and millions have fled. Iran is a Muslim inspired disaster a state which was not Islamic until the mid 7th century, and since then has never achieved peace, stability, or the enrichment of its people. As Fatah asks, "How can any Muslim defend such oppression and mass murder in the name of Islamic solidarity? ....they should imagine walking the shoes of the 30.000 who were ordered killed by the Mullahs in the summer of 1988."
4. Palestine - yet another future Islamic state. The entire idea is a myth and as Fatah makes clear, Palestinians [who are Arabs, Palestine never existed] are just being used by Arab states as pawns against Israel. What will happen when we have yet another Islamic fundamentalist state bordering Israel ? Fatah is happily optimistic - he thinks Palestine will survive in peace. He is wrong of course, but at least he criticises the Arab penchant to support fascists such as Hamas or Hizbollah.
5. Islam's ongoing political war. Fatah does a good job explaining the politicisation of Islam immediately after mad Mohammed's death - a civil war which still rages today between the Sunni's who were more or less from Mohammed's tribal elite and the Shia's who represented the blood lines of Mohammed's family. Islam is riven with political sects and hatreds. It is thus not some unitary, spiritual, faith based system, but more a set of competing interests each vying for political power and wealth. This sectionalism has killed millions of Muslims over the years and continues to stunt Islamic development and acceptance of reality, "The rest of us Muslims can, of course, continue to label each other as non-believers and apostates. We can hate modernity itself, be envious of human joy, bury our heads in the Arabian sands, and let the bloodthirsty desert have the last laugh."
6. Western political cowardice. Fatah's trenchant observation is that the political cowards running Western states will never intercede to disperse domestic Islamic fascism and radicalism. He is right. As such it will be up to the common Muslim and indeed non-Muslim to drag, berate, hit, convince, and cajole Muslims and Islam into the 21rst century. Politicians won't do it. Fatah and many other's like him, both Muslim and non-Muslim must do it or else we face a future civil war within Western states.
7. Islamic violence in the name of supremacy. As Fatah illustrates it is a global problem. Muslims everywhere are politicising Islam and using violence and war to further their aims and agendas. No other ideology is engaged in the same level of systemic violence. It defies rationality and is the most salient feature of Muslim intolerance.

Excellent, at least muslims know their religion.
Now the pope should follow this most proper example by banning yoga and Hindu music, dance, recitation, festivals, dress, architecture, medicine, rites, foods, etcetera for the Indian-origin catholics. Because these things are all entirely Hindu religious elements after all: meant for facilitating communion with Hindu Gods. If the pope were a real christian, he would similarly ban catholics from having anything to do with Samskritam (or any Bharatiya language actually), Dharmic names and involving themselves with any other such very Dharmic (anti-biblical/anti-jeebusjehovallah) traditions.

2. A short time later, he witnesses the locals playing a violent kind of hockey, with a goat's (or similar animal's) carcass as puck. He said that it <i>used</i> to be bloodier still: a prisoner of war was what they used to 'play' this game with. (Can't recall if it was the prisoner's entire body - or only the head - or even whether the prisoner was alive when they started their islamic game.)
Anyway, I'll leave it to others to add the two together.
Good to catch the episode if they play it on TV, and to provide a proper transcript of these two segments which follow closely upon one another.

As a young Muslim in Lahore, Anwar Shaikh took part in the Partition violence against Sikhs and Hindus. Terrorizing the non-Muslims seemed like the right and natural thing to do for a Pakistani. But after settling in Britain and establishing himself as a successful businessman, he developed second thoughts about his native religion. He started published a periodical for critical discussion of Islam, Liberty , in both English and Urdu, and a series of books on the relation between Islam and topics such as nationalism, violence and sexuality. His demythologising observations about the Prophet and the Quran caused considerable anguish among Britain-based Muslims, especially when the clerics they consulted failed to come up with a reassuring refutation. In the 1990s, he had the honour of being targeted by a number of Pakistani clerics with dire fatwas, finding him guilty of apostasy and insulting the Prophet but mercifully confining the implied death sentence to the jurisdiction of properly constituted Islamic states. He ought to be safe as long as he doesn't travel to an Islamic state.
In this book, Anwar Shaikh sets out to discover and reveal the scriptural and historical roots of Islam's current involvement with terrorism. The question has been occupying the minds of some Indian scholars for decades, but after recent Islamic terror attacks on Western interests, it seems that it is at last being taken seriously by Western audiences, politicians and scholars. Many of them are no longer prepared to swallow the easy answer that terrorism is un-Islamic and that it is only advertised as an Islamic Holy War by misguided individuals unrepresentative of true Islam.
All those people who say that acts of terror such as those on 11 September 2001 are un-Islamic, should tell us on what grounds an Islamic court could sentence an Osama bin Laden. The basis of Islamic law is the Quran along with the sayings and precedent conduct of the Prophet. So, can an Islamic terrorist cite the authority of the Quran and the Prophet in his justification, or can these sources be invoked to the opposite effect?
The answer, Mr. Sheikh argues, is quite straightforward: Mohammed himself was a terrorist, the most authoritative precedent for contemporary Islamic terrorists. To prove his point, he presents long lists of quotations from the Quran, the better-known Hadith (traditions of the Prophet) and also some lesser-known Hadith. In this respect, his book is a treasure-trove of first-hand data on the foundations of Islam and its doctrine of Holy War ( Jihad ).
Numerous canonical statements affirm that the Mujahid or Holy Warrior undoubtedly counts as the best among Muslims, e.g.: �Acting as Allah's soldier for one night in a battlefield is superior to saying prayers at home for 2,000 years.� (from Ibn-e-Majah , vol.2, p.162) Or: �Leaving for Jihad in the way of Allah in the morning or evening will merit a reward better than the world and all that is in it.� (from Muslim , 4639) Jihad, while not a duty for every individual Muslim, is a duty on the Muslim community as a whole until the whole world has become part of the Islamic empire.
The cult of martyrdom is an intrinsic part of the doctrine of jihad: the martyr �will desire to return to this world and be killed ten times for the sake of the great honour that has been bestowed upon him.� (Muslim 4635) And from Allah's own mouth: �Count not those who were slain in God's way as dead, but rather living with their Lord, by Him provided, rejoicing in the bounty that God has given them.� (Quran 3:163) Contrary to a recent tongue-in-cheek theory which reduces the heavenly reward for the fallen Mujahid from 72 maidens to mere grapes on the basis of some Arabic-Aramaic homonymy, a number of Prophetic sayings, in varied wordings mostly not susceptible to this cute Aramaic interpretation, confirm the traditional belief that �the martyr is dressed in radiant robes of faith, he is married to houris (the paradisiac virgins)� etc. (Ibn-e-Majah, vol.2, p.174) This confirms that the suicide terrorists were not acting against Islamic tenets, as some soft-brained would-be experts in the media have claimed. On the contrary, to sacrifice one's life in a jihadic operation against the unbelievers is the most glorious thing a Muslim can do.
In Jihad, it is perfectly permitted to deceive the unbelievers and subject them to terror. Anwar Sheikh provides all the scriptural references plus many precedents from history, which we cannot reproduce here. Suffice it to say there is ample evidence that Islam permits, and that by his personal example or by that of the men under his command, Mohammed has given permission for abduction, extortion, rape of hostages, mass-murder of prisoners, assassinations of enemies and dissidents, breaking of the conventions of civilized warfare, breaking of treaties, and suicide missions. From Osama bin Laden to the murderers of children in Beslan, North Ossetia, the Islamic terrorists are faithful followers of the Prophet.
For all his grim discoveries about the religion of the Muslims, Sheikh is not anti-Muslim: �I was not only born and bred as a Muslim but also fought grimly for the glory of Islam. Even today, my loved ones are Muslim. There is no way I can be anti-Muslim.� (p.306) Being a European outsider to Islam, I always get nasty replies when I say that �the problem is not Muslims, the problem is Islam�; but here you have it from the horse's mouth. It is perfectly possible to retain warm feelings for Muslims yet leave Islam and even criticize Islam.
He continues with some practical advice to Muslims. Setting an example in his own life, he is showing them the way to integration in non-Muslim societies: �I am a citizen of Great Britain, therefore I have a legal and moral obligation to live like other Britons and raise my children as British citizens, who are free to practise any religion they like.� (p.306) This is admittedly a difficult thing to do for the believing Muslim, for the practical core of Islam is not some theological doctrine but the observance of Islamic law, preferably under an Islamic polity but otherwise even in a non-Islamic society. The idea of allowing their children the freedom to choose their own religion, i.e. to choose against Islam and for an allegedly false religion, is abhorrent to most believers. Yet, it is what they have to do if they want to integrate into Western (c.q. Hindu) society.
Unfortunately, Shaikh finds that the number of Muslims ignoring this common-sense rule has crossed a critical threshold to a point where it negatively affects not only Muslim-non-Muslim coexistence, but even the non-Muslim host society itself: �The Muslims in this country have not fully appreciated the hospitality that they have received. (�) It is no crime to be a Muslim in this country but it is a crime to be a terrorist because terrorism has demolished many of those civil liberties for which the West has worked for a long time and given tremendous sacrifices to gain them. Now, they have created such conditions that safety is becoming impossible without identity cards, emergency laws which authorise imprisonment without a trial�, etc. (p.307)
Remember the good old days when the bobbies, Britain's police constables, did their rounds without carrying guns? It cannot honestly be denied that the behaviour of an ever-increasing number of young Pakistanis has contributed decisively to the sad discarding of this glorious tradition. Every non-brainwashed European can confirm that an influx of entire Muslim communities (as opposed to individuals or single families, who tend to blend in like most isolated immigrants do) has created a new set of problems for their societies. The larger these Islamic islands in Western society become, the less willingness they show to adapt, and the more they insist on maintaining or restoring Islamic mores and laws within their communities and ultimately in society as a whole.
The one silver lining to the dark cloud of Islamic terrorism is that it alerts non-Muslim societies to the specificity of the problems which Islam poses. Westerners often feel guilty of xenophobia, �fear of what is strange or foreign�, when they criticize Islam. But the problem of Islam is not one of strangeness or foreign origin, as will readily become clear when you compare it with Buddhism. In Western culture, Buddhism is even stranger than Islam, which shares certain common roots with Christianity, yet people find Tibetans in their native dress colourful rather than threatening. There are no Buddhist gangs attacking peaceful citizens, nor are there Buddhist associations making separatist political demands such as the right to observe a separate law system. Buddhism may be strange, but informed people will agree that it is an enrichment to our society. Islam is less strange, yet its enriching contributions are unclear while its nuisance value is all too palpable. The stark reality of Islamic terrorism blows away the fog of doubt and timidity hitherto surrounding the painful question of how to evaluate Islam.

Shaikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, who planned the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993, funneled these words to his fellow faithfuls: âOh, you Muslims everywhere, sever the ties of their nation, tear them apart, ruin their economy, instigate against their corporations, destroy their embassies, attack their interests, sink their ships, and shoot down these airplanes. Radical Islamists are very honest when they talk about their vision of future of Islam. They are forthright when they say that their aim is to establish Caliphate â means rule of Allah -- all over the world. The concept of Caliphate has stirred the imagination of radical Islamists. Caliphate existed from 632 to 1924 when the last remnant of Caliphate was abolished in Turkey by Mustafa Kamal Pasha.

Will the liberal intelligentsia that believes in political correctness succeed in handling radical Islamists extolling the virtues of violence and savagery? There are more than 57 Islamic countries in the world. In the arc extending from Cairo to Jakarta, India and Israel are the only two credible non-Moslem democracies. Israel is completely surrounded by Moslem nations. Islamic nations are just waiting for an opportunity to destroy, annihilate and erase Israelâs existence from the face of Earth.
History is testimony to the fact that Moslems forcibly wrested one third of India from Hindus at the time of Partition in 1947. In 1974, Moslem nation Turkey, militarily invaded Cyprus and forcibly created a Moslem state in it. Moslems have transformed Lebanon from the Christian majority state to the one that is Moslem majority. A brand new Muslim nation of Kosovo has been planted in the heart of Europe.
George W. Bush, in his State of Union Address on Jan. 29, 2002, in order to describe governments that he accused of helping terrorism coined the term âAxis of Evilâ. President Bush named Iran, Iraq and North Korea. But in the changed circumstances, the term âAxis of Evilâ can be modified and extended to Iran, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Iran is covertly developing nuclear weapons. Fox News recently reported that Iran is capable of producing nuclear bomb this year. Iran has acquired BM25 land-mobile missiles with a range of 3500 km that can strike targets in Europe. It is testing ballistic missiles designed to destroy the American cities. In addition to that Iran is surreptitiously supplying the rockets, missiles and other dangerous weapon systems to Hamas and Hizbollah in Lebanon.
Saudi Arabia is building mosques all over the world. These mosques then run Madrasas. Madrasas are the factories for manufacturing terrorists. Terrorists are systematically trained in Pakistan by Pakistanâs Inter-Services Agency (ISI) and then exported all over the world to kill the infidels (again, infidels are those 4.5 billion non-Muslim humans on globe that do not believe in Allah, Koran and Mohammad). Thus, ISI, the Pakistanâs official intelligence agency is waging a jihad against the infidel India and is using the nuclear weapons to blackmail her.
In that country, which is more than 99% Islamic, the thorough cleansing of religious minorities has already been completed. Fuelled by petro-dollars from Saudi Arabia and emboldened by Pakistanâs Islamic bomb, Islamists are on a march to establish Caliphet and impose Sharia (Islamic law) on all of us. Chinaâs direct military help to Pakistan, Russiaâs similar help to Iran and other Arab nations has further increased the appetite of Jihadists to achieve their dream of Islamic domination over the Western Europe, America and India.
Saudi Arabia is notorious for being a big funding source for the hate-filled extremist ideologies. A few years ago Saudi Arabiaâs ruler King Fahd had himself ordered a fundraising in the amount of $100 million for families of Palestinian terrorists. According to a State Department report, the Saudi Arabian donors are a primary source of funding to the terrorist outfit Hamas in Lebanon. Wealthy Saudi Arabians who are closely related to the King have been bankrolling extremism through various charitable contributions. Again, according to another State Department report, Al Qaeda is a constant fundraising machine; the country from where it raises the most is, indisputably, the Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan has become not only the laboratory of radical Islam but it also is a major sponsor of terrorism. The political disintegration of Pakistan is not only central to winning the war on terror, but also essential for a stable peace in the South Asia. Pakistan uses terrorism as a tool of its foreign policy. The Pakistani politicians are very shrewd and cunning by nature and design. They meticulously follow the strategy established by Prophet Mohammed in the Treaty of Al-Hudaybiyah in 628 â to buy time and build the military strength.
On one hand, the Pakistan administration has been maintaining the façade of working closely with United States in fighting Taliban terrorists in Afghanistan, and on the other most of its core commanders aid, abet and hobnob with the Jihadists to advance the cause of Islam. In the process, they have fleeced the American taxpayers tens of billions of dollars. In order to fool the US, once in a while, they arrest some poor Moslem guy, declare the arrest of a leading local commander of some militant group, give wide publicity to the fabricated event and hoodwink US. Pakistan is the true epicenter of terrorism in world, as well as the breeding ground of future hard-core terrorists.
Addressing a meeting at Asia Society, Salman Rushdie, the famous Booker award novelist said: The headquarters of the Al Qaeda, the headquarters of the Taliban, the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammad are in the worldâs center of terrorism â Pakistan.
Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, addressing the conference organized by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in New York at New York Palace Hotel said that he was worried about the Islamic Jihad developing in India.
There is a growing concern in the world that nuclear Pakistan will inevitably assist other radical Islamist countries and groups, including those that have targeted Israel, to develop their own nuclear weapons.
It is important to remember that the same ideology that caused the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York, 11/26/2008 massacres in Mumbai, 7/7/2005 attacks on Londonâs public transport network, 3/11/2004 Madrid train bombing, 9/1/2004 merciless murder of school children at Beslan, Russia, 3/5/2003 terror blast in Bali, Indonesia, has in the last ten years resulted in the murder of thousands of Indians (mostly Hindus) in hundreds of terror incidents.
In 1940âs we defeated Nazism. A few decades later, we smashed Communist ideology. In the 21st century, however, we are confronted with a deceitful, hateful and the most dangerous enemy who has entrenched itself in our midst. At approximately 22% of the global population, the Islamists are determined to impose their ideology on the remaining 78% gullible but peace-loving citizens of world!
If we look at it carefully, it is really not that difficult to defeat the diabolical designs of our enemies who use sophistry and subterfuge.We know that, in the past, Islam had touched the nadir of humiliation in 732 at the hands of Charles Mortell, the defender of Europe, at the Battle of Tours. Again in 1971 Bangladesh War, valiant Indian forces lead by Zoroastrian Field Marshal Manekshaw, Jewish General J.F.R. Jacob, and Sikh Lt. Gen. Jagjit Singh Arora made East Pakistanis sheepishly surrender at Dacca. The brave Indian commanders captured over 90,000 Moslem soldiers as prisoners-of-war, who foolishly and mistakenly believed the Islamic propaganda that they did indeed belong to an invincible âmarshal race!â In the situation, the defeated Pakistani soldiers had to beg for mercy.
Islamists have plans to plant the Islamic flag on White House, 10 Downing Street, New Delhi and other major capitals of the world. America is the military superpower. India has the manpower, brains and technology. Israel has a clear-cut strategy to overpower the Islamists, as also understands their dreadful, inhumane ideology.
For the sake of the survival of human civilization, freedom, liberty and democracy, it is imperative that these democracies devise strategies in cooperation with UK, France, Russia and other victims of Islamism, to extirpate the threat to our existence.
In order to avert the looming catastrophe of unprecedented magnitude, it is absolutely essential that we give up squeamishness, apathy and pusillanimity. Apocalyptic annihilation is staring us in our eyes. We can ignore it only at our own peril!

Afghanistan & Pakistan are in the grip of the Al Qaeda and Talibans. 26/11 barbaric attack by the terrorists in Mumbai was an attack on the economic structure of India. Pakistan is fighting for its survival. We all know this. Our great PIOs/NRIs have for decades met with Congressmen/Women and Senators, etc. We have India caucus of about 188 Congressmen. Have we convinced? In fact world is failing--the mightiest and resourceful USA and Europe are failing. The question is what is the solution?

An Afghan diplomat was charged Friday with beating his wife âlike a dogâ for more than 15 hours in their Queens home, prosecutors said.
Mohammed Fagirad, 30, a vice consul at the Afghanistan Consulate, brutalized his wife inside their Flushing home from about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday until nearly midnight, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
During the attack, Fagirad bit, slapped, choked and beat the 22-year-old woman with a belt, pushed her down a flight of stairs and sat on her chest, prosecutors said.
At one point, prosecutors said, Fagirad threw his wife up against a wall, held her there by the neck and then let her drop to the floor, where he beat her with a belt.
Fagirad told police his âwife was a dog and he was going to treat her like a dog,â prosecutors said.
When Fagirad left the home, his wife fled and went to the 109th Precinct stationhouse, where she filed a domestic violence report, prosecutors said. She then returned home.
When Fagirad returned, he demanded his wifeâs cell phone and called police to file a counterclaim, prosecutors said.
The woman, who was not named, was hospitalized for bruises and scratches to her neck and back.
Prosecutors said Fagiradâs limited diplomatic immunity only covers work-related infractions.
He was awaiting arraignment last night in Queens Criminal Court. End

incidentally, the one true certified military genius in the whole afpak region was the great tajik commander of afghanistan's Northern Alliance, ahmed shah massoud. what a guy! he held off the entire might of the soviet army from his perch in the panjshir valley. not surprisingly, he was not so ostentatiously religious, either. of course, the taliban bumped him off on 9/10 (yes, the day before 9/11/2001) by concealing a bomb in a TV camera. here's a photo of massoud.

The devices, which enable Taliban fighters to detonate roadside bombs by remote control, are either sent to sympathizers in the region, or carried by volunteers who fly to Pakistan and then make their way across the border.
Details of how British electronic components have been found in roadside bombs were given to David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, when he visited British troops at their military compound at Lashkagar, in Helmand province, earlier this week.
In a briefing on British operations in southern Afghanistan by Brigadier Gordon Messenger, the Royal Marine commander of the British battlegroup, Mr Miliband was shown examples of the crude, home-made devices that are being used in attacks against British patrols.
They included mobile phones filled with explosives, which could kill or seriously injure British soldiers patrolling on foot, and more sophisticated devices that can be used against military vehicles.
Explosives experts who have examined the devices say they have found British-made electronic components that enable Taliban insurgents to detonate their home-made, road-side bombs by remote control.
The electronic devices smuggled into Afghanistan from Britain range from basic remote control units that are normally used to fly model airplanes to more advanced components that enable insurgents to conduct attacks from up to a mile away from British patrols.
<b>"We have found electronic components in devices used to target British troops that originally come from Britain," a British explosives officer told Mr Miliband during a detailed briefing on the type of improvised explosive device (IED) used against British forces.</b>
When asked how the components had reached Afghanistan, the officer explained that they had either been sent from Britain, or physically brought to Afghanistan by British Muslims who had flown over.
The disclosure is the latest in a string of suggestions from British commanders about the connections between British Muslims and violence in Afghanistan.
In August, Brigadier Ed Butler, the former commander of UK forces in Afghanistan, told the Telegraph that there are "British passport holders" in the Taliban ranks. Other officers believe their soldiers have killed British Muslims fighting alongside the Taliban.
And last year, it was revealed that <b>RAF Nimrod surveillance planes monitoring Taliban radio signals in Afghanistan had heard militants speaking with Yorkshire and Midlands accents</b>
British commanders have recorded a significant rise in the use of IEDs during the past two years, partly the result of the success British forces have recorded in defeating the Taliban in conventional attacks.
"We've really hit the Taliban hard, and the only way they can respond is to rely more heavily on IEDs and similar weapons," said a British officer.
The number of IED attacks against British forces has risen from an average of 27 percent of attacks in 2007 to an estimated 55 percent so far this year. A significant proportion of the 145 British service personnel killed on active duty in Afghanistan have been killed by improvised roadside bombs.
British military officers say the devices used in Afghanistan are not as sophisticated as those used against British forces in Iraq, and that Taliban insurgents need to be able to physically monitor British patrols when carrying out attack.
Details of the British link to IEDs were provided to Mr Miliband during his 48-hour fact-finding mission to Afghanistan earlier this week where he met military and government officials to assess the level of progress being made by British and coalition forces as the current military deployment enters its fourth year.
British officials are expected to come under pressure from U.S. President Barack Obama to add to the 8,300 British service personnel currently serving in Afghanistan as Washington prepares to undertake a military surge similar to the one that was so successful in Iraq.
Mr Obama has already pledged to send an extra 17,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan this year, and he is now expected to pressure other Nato countries â including Britain â to follow suit.
The original 2001 Western invasion of Afghanistan was triggered by al-Qaeda's September 11 attacks on the US.
The Taliban regime in Kabul had sheltered the al-Qaeda leadership, which is now based in the lawless Afghan-Pakistan border region.
Some Western intelligence agencies believe Osama bin Laden's group is now able to operate largely freely in the area.
However, bin Laden is facing an ideological revolt by one of al-Qaeda's founding leaders who blames, blaming him for "every drop" of blood spilt in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Sayyid Imam al-Sharif, who goes by the nom de guerre Dr Fadl, helped bin Laden create al-Qaeda and then led an Islamist insurgency in Egypt in the 1990s. But after a change of heart, he has launched a public denunciation of the group.
His latest book, which has been serialised in newspapers across the Arab world, amounts to a frontal attack on al-Qaeda's ideology and on the personal failings of bin Laden and his Egyptian deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.
