Gen Singh also reiterated his opposition to demands to either 'withdraw' or 'dilute' the iron-fisted Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from J&K, holding that 'adequate measures' have been instituted at all levels to ensure it's not misused.

"Police forces get protection under the CrPC. In similar vein, armed forces operating against well-trained and armed terrorists need legal protection. Any dilution/withdrawal of AFSPA may have an adverse impact on the security situation. We have seen this happening in Manipur, around Imphal," he added.

Stunned over the way Kashif Ali, a Pakistan spy who was carrying out his task so smoothly for two and a half year, the UT Police on Monday sent a team to Rajasthan to interrogate the people about whom he disclosed during interrogation. Kashif will be in police custody till Wednesday.
Kashif, the suspected Pakistani spy who was arrested had duped Government departments and banks during his over two-year stay. He had a driving licence, voter ID card and even a PAN card - all procured on the basis of fake documents.
Aliââ¬â¢s rented accommodation in Sector-44, from where he was arrested on Saturday, was raided and police seized various documents and a digital camera. Ali, 24, a resident of Faisalabad in Pakistanââ¬â¢s Punjab province, is suspected to have sent vital defence information from India to his country.
ââ¬ÅWe have recovered a driving licence that was issued by a New Delhi transport authority, a voter identity card with a Chandigarh address, PAN (permanent account number) card and a high school certificate issued by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB),ââ¬Â said a police official.
ââ¬ÅWe have also recovered a receipt of the Regional Passport Office, Chandigarh. Ali admitted that he had entered India through Nepal. He had stayed in New Delhi and at Bikaner before coming to Chandigarh. He had bank accounts in Axis Bank and at Union Bank of India,ââ¬Â he said.
The seizure of these documents highlights the loopholes in the intelligence wing of police in Chandigarh. ââ¬ÅWe are looking into all aspects of this matter and trying to ascertain the links of Ali with other people in Chandigarh and in other States. We will also check how he managed to procure all these documents on the basis of fake papers,ââ¬Â said Inspector, crime branch, Amanjot Singh.
Ali, who was sent to police custody by a local court, had moved an application in court seeking permission to talk to his family through two Pakistan phone numbers. A city court on Sunday granted him permission to talk to his family members in the presence of the investigation officer and also directed police to record the conversation.
Police had also detained two of Aliââ¬â¢s friends ââ¬â Santosh, 24, and Rajeev, 23, ââ¬â who were in close contact with him. ââ¬ÅWe also questioned Aliââ¬â¢s landlord about people who came to meet him. We have found that two women who are working in a beauty parlour were coming to meet him at regular intervals,ââ¬Â said the police official.
Inspector General of Police Pradeep Shrivastava had earlier told reporters: ââ¬ÅAli admitted that he had taken weaponry training from Pakistan. He was collecting vital information regarding the Armyââ¬â¢s Western Command headquarters at Chandimandir in neighbouring Panchkula town and the air force station here and was passing it to Pakistan.ââ¬Â

When police raided Ishtaq Ahmed's house at Dubra village in the Maoist-dominated Para area after a tip-off, they found a box with 'URM, Made in USA' stamped on it. An automatic revolver, a pipegun and 21 rounds of ammunition were also discovered during the search. Ahmed was arrested and a case filed at Para police station mentioning uranium seizure.
Police haven't opened the sealed box as the substance inside could be dangerously radioactive. It is being sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory for tests.
Do US make anything? I don't think box with Uranium will be label as URM. It would be label with sign.

Phone numbers of senior officials at the Southern Command were also supposed to have been passed on by the accused. A CD, the contents of which were not known, was also recovered.

Five persons were killed and three others were injured when country bombs being illegally manufactured exploded in Nadapuram near Kozhikode, police said today.
Three persons died on the spot last night while two others succumbed to injuries at a hospital this morning, they said.
The explosion occurred at an uninhabitated plot at Narikkattiri in Nadapuram, they said.
Three injured persons were undergoing treatment at different hospitals where the condition of two of them was stated to be serious, police said.
The deceased had been identified as Riyaz, Shamir, Shabir, Shabil and Rafeeq, hailing from Nadapuram region. All the victims were involved in manufacturing the bombs when the explosion occurred.
Top police officials visited the explosion site and widespread raids had been launched in surrounding areas in the wake of the incident, police said.
Nadapuram and surrounding areas have been witnessing an uneasy calm amid continuing political tension between IUML and CPI(M) workers since the violent clashes during the local bodies elections in October last year and post-poll incidents.
Of the 15 cases registered in Nadapuram police station in connection with the violence in recent times, eight related to bomb throwing attacks, police said.
On February 20, police recovered nine steel bombs, concealed in a bucket, at Chelakkad in Nadapuram.

Food, clothing, protective gear, weapons and communication systems are the basic requirements for modernisation. And yet they remain un-organised, irrational and slapdash in their implementation.
The simplest, yet cruelest, example is that of those CRPF jawans who have died in horrendously large numbers combing the jungles for Maoists. Well, most would have lived had they been carrying a simple tourniquet to prevent bleeding to death.
