Christian subversion and missionary activities -2 - Guest - 03-03-2007 Not concerning India, but Eritrea which neighbours Ethiopia and of which it was formerly part. Makes for an interesting case study. Preliminary background information: http://home.planet.nl/~hans.mebrat/eritrea-religions.htm QUOTEThe population of Eritrea is equally divided between Christian (Orthodox Church, Roman Catholic and Lutheran protestants) and Muslim religions. The conversion of Axum to (a subsect of Orthodox) Christianity dates from the forth century A.D. when Syrian missionaries introduced a Monophysite doctrine to the Axumites. From a region which was approximately coextensive with modern Eritrea, the Christian kings of Axum extended their power and influence far a field. Islam spread to Eritrea around 615 AD with the arrival of Osman Bin Afan... Catholicism was first brought to Eritrea by the Jesuit Fathers in 1600. In 1632, this order was expelled for wanting to Latinize the country. In the nineteenth century the Italians began to bring Eritrea under their protection and introduced Roman Catholicism. (Italy attacked Etiopia in the Nazi era, at which time Eritrea was still part of Ethiopia) The protestant presence in Eritrea is small. Missionaries appeared in the 19th century and established the Lutheran and Evangelical church. These organizations have been allowed to continue to practice. New groups however, have been discouraged from establishing a base in Eritrea. There is also a tiny Jewish presence in Eritrea after the majority moved to Israel. And here is the (one of the?) Original African Religion of the Eritrean populace: QUOTEThere is also a small community of Kunamas (Gash-Setit), who practice their own traditional religion, centered around worship of Anna, the creator, and veneration of ancestral heroes. <img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/specool.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='specool.gif' /> What's curious to note, however, is that Orthodox christianity, islam, catholicism even protestantism are officially recognised religions in the country - in fact they're the only ones officially allowed (that means, the traditional belief system isn't! - but this is a christoislamic country, what does one expect?) About the tolerance of christoislamic Eritrea toward newer christo and islamic religions: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3343635.stm QUOTE23 December, 2003 US condemns Eritrea over religion [Photo caption: The Catholic Church is one of the four recognised religions] Respect for religious freedom in Eritrea has deteriorated over the past year, according to a United States Government report. Members of unsanctioned religious groups have been harassed, detained and tortured, the State Department says. An Eritrean Government spokesman has condemned the report, calling it inaccurate and extremely superficial. The State Department publishes an annual report into religious freedom around the world. Renouncing faith Only four religious groups are officially sanctioned in Eritrea - the Orthodox church, Catholics, Muslims and the Evangelical Church of Eritrea. "Some of the detainees had reportedly been rolled around in oil drums, abused by fellow prisoners and the women sexually abused" - US State Department report In May last year it was decreed that all other religious groups should cease their activities while they awaited registration from the government. According to the State Department report, in the 19 months since the decree, no new religious group has been recognised by the government. For those who have secretly tried to practise their religions, the report has accounts of their alleged mistreatment. "Some of the detainees had reportedly been rolled around in oil drums, abused by fellow prisoners and the women sexually abused," the report said. "Some of the detainees reportedly suffer from partial paralysis and other physical injuries as a result of their torture". The harassment was said to have continued until they recanted their faiths. 'Extremists' According to the report, Jehovah's Witnesses are singled out for particularly harsh treatment as they refuse on principle to perform national service. Some were said to have been detained for more than eight years. The incidents have been compiled from the foreign press, human rights groups, religious leaders and family members. But Eritrea's initial response has been to question the accuracy and reliability of the sources for the report. A government spokesman called it "scandalous and based on unreliable reports. These new extremist groups whether Christian or Muslim must abide by the laws of our country." Yemane Gebremeskel also said contrary to the report, some religious groups have been registered and were operating in the country. Mr Gebremeskel said: "Anybody has the full right to practise any religion but external funding for various political purposes that come under the smokescreen of religious movement are not allowed." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3663654.stm QUOTE17 September, 2004 Religious persecution in Eritrea By Jonah Fisher Former BBC correspondent in Asmara [Photo caption: The Catholic Church is one of four approved religions] If you are Catholic, Muslim, or a member of the Orthodox and Evangelical churches in Eritrea then it seems you can breathe easy. However, those who believe and practise minority faiths are routinely persecuted, according to human rights groups. Two years ago the Eritrean government introduced a registration system for religions which forced groups to submit information about themselves in order to be allowed to worship. Apart from the four mentioned, other faiths have not been recognised. And human rights groups have regularly complained that people practising minority religions have faced harassment. (Note that in the statement above, only christo and islamic minority religions are considered, not the African religion: that does not county you see, what with its unsaved kaffirness.) Secret meeting I went to visit a small part of a Christian Pentecostal Church that has been banned from meeting for the past two years. When I arrived in a small dark room of a private house, 12 men and women face away from each other, looking to the corners of the room. Lit by just a small lamp, some of them are singing, some praying, occasionally one breaks into prayer and collapses to the floor. (Collapsing on the floor is one of those spastic fits that Pentecostals go into. They think it's being filled with the holy spook. But all established christian churches recognise it for the fraud it is.) The congregation has divided into small groups. There are 10 other gatherings just like this, taking place across Asmara tonight. These people are very trusting of each other - just by being here and praying together. There have been numerous occasions reported around Eritrea of neighbours and friends of worshipers informing the authorities. Arrests [Photo caption: President Isaias Afewerki does not allow political dissent either] "We were put into a metal shipping container... During the day it very hot and at night very cold" - Samuel A few days later I arranged to meet a man, who I will call Samuel. Samuel was attending a religious service, just like the one I was at, when soldiers arrived. (The inevitable Christo persecution of fellow christos follow - in this case it's real, just like it was of the various christian sects persecuting each other to death in the Roman empire, but unlike the massive christo lies of pagan Roman persecution of christians) "I was praying with six people at a house one evening and the soldiers came into the house, watched us for one minute and said these meetings are forbidden," he told me. "We were beaten with sticks and then taken to a police station." Samuel told me that he and the other Pentecostals had spent the next three months being moved between different locations where they were regularly beaten. "We were put into a metal shipping container with nine Jehovah's Witnesses; one of them was in his 90s. During the day it very hot and at night very cold". Eventually Samuel said he was released after signing a document in which he promised to return to Orthodox Christianity. Persecution His case, it seems, is not an isolated one. I spoke to one American journalist while she was in Eritrea, undercover, researching religious persecution. She asked that I not mention her name, so that she can return to the country. She told me she repeatedly heard from individuals telling her police had taken them off and beaten them after interrupting them praying at home with friends. They were then told they were an enemy of the people and forced to either sign a paper or kept in jail if they wouldn't sign and left in containers. "All of these things are just happening repeatedly over and over from people of all different Christian denominations and the Jehovah's Witnesses. So it is very pervasive of any group that are not part of the four major religions," she said. (Note how interviewee says 'christian denominations AND the jehovah's witnesses' - being a typical christo, she doesn't accord christo status to certain christo sects either) The evidence she has seen herself is undeniable, she says. "I've seen the scars on people's legs, I've seen their tears and it's very real and they live under a lot of fear." I was asked to leave Eritrea before I could get a government response to my research and experiences, but a statement from the foreign ministry rejected accusations of religious persecutions from the United States. The government seems to have decided that anyone who does not follow a certain standard is an enemy of the people, is an enemy of the state. It is afraid that people who consider their highest allegiance to be God, at some point may not be patriotic and follow the state's instructions. At a time of growing tension, both with Ethiopia and Sudan, it seems the Eritrean government is determined that nothing, not even religion, should fall outside their control. At the same link, comments by readers follow (mostly Eritreans) who generally fall into two camps: those who belong to the persecuted minority christoislamic religions and those who belong to the officially recognised religions. They're at the bottom of http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3663654.stm - good read. Gives insight into the typical christian-conditioned minds. A few things are apparent: - christoislamics persecute amongst themselves as they did in the first centuries of the religion - and most viciously so! - christos always like persecution, it 'vindicates' their faith. Christian sects that spring up anywhere always work in secrecy and try to huddle up with their jeebus-buddies against the majority 'others' who are persecuting them - whether in reality (as in this case) or in their imaginations (as in the case of Ancient Rome and other heathen places). - the actual ancient African religion of the place is not recognised of course - it is clear 'religious freedom' is a term that applies only to christoislamism. Other religions don't count as religions. So when next some international journalist or Indian christo whines about 'Hindus persecuting christos' in India, they just need to be steered toward the (undoctored, for a change!) reports of christoislamic persecutions against christoislamics. Christo sects have always threatened even their own kind with their aggressive proselytising, and they always love playing the victims: - The early christian sects did it to the Ancient Romans, all the while murdering each other (coptics, orthodox Roman Church, Donatists, Arians, Nestorians and other early christian sects - see http://truth.orgfree.com/A2a.htm ) - the Protestants annoyed the Catholics with their existence - Anabaptists and whatnots annoyed the Protestants with their existence - later subdenominations annoyed the US Protestant denominations with their existence - the mormons whine in Greece and Russia where they're not wanted at all, but as usual the 'victims' are the botherers annoying the populace - another example: Pentecostals vs Catholic Church at http://truth.orgfree.com/C6.htm - The Jehovah's Witnesses, 7th day adventists, general charismatics and mormons annoy everybody else - blablabla They can't stand each other and they'll never have peace. The world's a better place without christoislamism. With christoislamism: there won't be peace until the last man has drawn his gun on his fellow. The Catholics in the city had earlier sprung into action against the worldwide premiere 'The Lost Tomb of Jesus' that claims to show the burial place of Jesus challenging the basic tenets the Christian faith. 'The Lost Tomb of Jesus' is a feature documentary, directed by Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici and produced by Oscar-winning director James Cameron of the 'Titanic' fame, Flex Golubev and Ric Esther Bienstock. The Catholic Secular Forum (CSF) had written to the Discovery Channel's office in New Delhi requesting it to refrain from broadcasting the feature documentary scheduled for a worldwide premiere Sunday. 'We have called off our protest from today after Discovery Channel expressed regret that the channel had inadvertently hurt religious sentiments of the Christian community and decided not to telecast the feature documentary in India,' said CSF general secretary Joseph Dias here Friday. 'We had taken up the matter with the TV channel, sending it notices threatening an agitation on the day of telecast and legal action. The CSF had also presented a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other ministers including the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister P.R. Dasmunsi in a move to prevent the telecast.' Dias said that CSF would, however, continue with its awareness campaign against the documentary. 'We will continue with our awareness campaign against the documentary, exposing the falsehood promoted or implied by it.' 'We will also take up the issue with the Indian government for the possibility of banning the book by Jabobovici slated to be released before Easter and also ban the sale of DVDs intended to cash in on the hype the documentary has generated ,' Dias told IANS. The CSF is also protesting references made in the documentary to Judah as the secret son of Jesus through Mary Magdalene and portrayal of Mathew, one of the writers of the Gospels, as a maternal relative of Jesus and the mention of the burial of Jesus' siblings in the same tomb. 'The Lost Tomb of Jesus' traces the discovery of thousands of tombs containing ossuaries or limestone boxes that served as coffins in the first-century Jerusalem. One of these tombs was found to contain ten ossuaries. The feature documentary makes a case that the 2000-year-old 'Tombs of the Ten Ossuaries ' belonged to the family of Jesus of Nazareth. The film also documents DNA extraction from human residue found in two of the ossuaries and reveals new evidence that throws light on Jesus' relationship with Mary Magdalene. The documentary includes dramatic recreations, based on the latest historical evidence, illustrating accurate images of Jesus of Nazareth, his family, his followers, his ministry, his crucifixion and his entombment.Catholics are always the same: clamouring for 'secularism' and 'freedom of speech' when they want to slur others, but always silencing that same freedom of speech when it shows up chinks in their religion. Christo handbook on How to destroy Ancient African Religion in Nigeria: http://www.christianaggression.org/item_di...S&id=1161577484 Film and the Christianization of Nigeria Posted October 22, 2006 PAUL V.M. FLESHER October 22, 2006 Casper Star Tribune Source Link ( http://www.casperstartribune.net/articles/...20d0020fdd3.txt ) Excerpt: QUOTELet's start this column with a quiz question. Which film center produced more commercial movies in 2005: Hollywood (United States), Bollywood (India), or Nollywood (Nigeria)? If you guessed Hollywood, guess again. America produced only 611 commercial films in 2005. Ok, Bollywood then. Nope. Although India outshone the United States, producing 964 films, they produced less than half the output of Nollywood, which released more than 2000 films. (Hollywood comes out on top when the criteria is gross sales income.) Admittedly, the Nigerian film industry operates on different principles from those of America and India. Most films are low-budget, often costing less than $30,000 to make. They are shot in 10 days or less by hand-held video cameras, and distributed directly to DVD without ever seeing the light (or is it the dark?) of a movie theater. Most films made in Nigeria sell for about $3 and rent for 50 cents. What is interesting about Nigerian films is that one of the most popular plot lines features the clash of religions, old and new. The key characters are villains who use aspects of traditional African religions, often characterized as witchcraft or voodoo, to work their wicked ways. In the end, however, Christianity triumphs by redeeming the victims and vanquishing the evildoers, although they may be forgiven upon conversion to Christianity. Make no mistake, this plotline may be camp and hackneyed, but it usually is played down and dirty for all it is worth. <img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/furious.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='furious.gif' /> Although The Guardian (London) recently characterized this genre as the "voodoo horror flick," this really describes the films for the benefit of Western film viewers. Within Nigeria itself, these films echo the historical transformation of southern Nigeria from its traditional religions to Christianity. Christian subversion and missionary activities -2 - Guest - 03-03-2007 Don't know if this has been posted already: http://www.skeptictank.org/rapeindi.htm (found this from http://www.christianaggression.org/item_di...S&id=1081101322 ) but original has Clickable Links. THE RAPE OF INDIA by David Kostinchuk Read whole thing. It ends with: QUOTENative missionaries now do 90% of the work in starting churches. These people are more effective in converting people because They understand the language, customs, culture, etc. In addition recent converts are often more zealous in their efforts to convert people to their way of thinking. Hundreds of thousands of zealous converts can also have a sever profound influences on the political system that is in effect. The reader of this article should be aware of the fact that these students could be influenced toward Christianity by their teachers. In addition orphanages can be the breeding ground for future evangelists. In an orphanage children could be brainwashed and conditioned during school and after school. The children in an orphanage can have their social life controlled after school so they only socialize with evangelists. These children have no family or other people outside of the evangelists to look after their welfare so they can easily be programmed. It is interesting though sad to see the results that might occur as the evangelists enter their last stage of evangelism in India. You can see considerable backlash against evangelism as stated in the newspapers. Evangelists cry to the politicians, civil right groups and newspapers in the West. Some questions must be asked though. Do evangelists have the right to disrupt society, culture, religion, and the family of people in other countries? Do people have the right to combat the attack on the culture, etc. of their country? I would welcome any comments or feedback on this article. Christian subversion and missionary activities -2 - Guest - 03-04-2007 A suspicion I had, that was growing until yesterday, has solidified. It concerns the conversion of non-Europeans to christianity (or islam) and the direct correlation (might as well say, direct relation) this has to the stagnation and failure of the converted society. What I mean is this - and these are just loose thoughts not really fitting together properly, so I don't think I am explaining myself well: Once converted, the converts actually absorb the christian belief they are Hamites and they play the role of the inferior, accursed Hamites whether they realise it or not. Look at the Phillipines, Asia's christian country. Has it contributed as many useful things as its population should be capable of? Historically it had its own culture and uniqueness of being, and who knows where it could be today if it were not a christianised country. There is no life in them now, they've been petrified as it were: they still look to have a culture and unique existence on first glance, but it's stonedead. If you look at Africa, from the second or third generation christian converts onwards, people play the part prescribed to them too: that of the incontrollable Hamitic people who need intervention from outside to keep them at peace, else they will be at constant war with each other otherwise. But in reality, if you read about the Congo during colonialism, it has been shown that it was actually the christo colonials who brought all the strife to the various subcommunities of the Congo Basin. ( http://freetruth.50webs.org/A4b.htm#Congo ) The same has been shown to be true for all African warfare, because they have their roots in the dissensions sown by christoislamism. With those christo movies in Nigeria that portray ancient African religion as some kind of devilish witchcraft/crazed possession, it shows how the converted Nigerians think: they have imbibed the christo belief that for these hundreds of millennia Africans have been fools who have contributed nothing, have developed nothing; and that it is only now with christianity that the people have some semblance of humanity, stability or are worthy of/can progress. I mean, who would even think such a thing of one's own ancient people, ever - unless they had been brainwashed by an intolerant doctrine to set aside all of their identity and see as completely worthless their entire history and their very being as a historic community? Only a christoislamic could come to such a conclusion that denounces many millennia of the creation of an ethnic, civilisational and religious identity. (Islam also believes in the myth of Noah's three sons Japheth, Shem and Ham, as confirmed by Alberuni http://www.india-forum.com/forums/index.ph...indpost&p=64265 ) Ethiopia is said to be one of the oldest christian countries in the world, Eritrea used to be a part of Ethiopia until recently. Now look what they are praying to: A red-headed Japhetic looking jeebus! (From http://home.planet.nl/~hans.mebrat/eritrea-religions.htm ) At least Ethiopians are not pretending Jesus and his Apostles were African, unlike some liberation theologians are teaching Indians. Until jeebus came, they were unsaved nobodies. Their history, their true/only worthwhile history, they are convinced, starts with jeebus. What dhimmitude! And they're okay with it. They're okay playing Ham - like so many other African, American, Pacific, Australian and Asian populations. Ethiopians had never protested when the Pope during Fascist Mussolini had supported Italy's invasion of Ethiopia to bring those hell-bound schismatics (Orthodox Christian Ethopians), who were labouring under 'The Curse Of Ham', back to the original faith. The Ethiopians might consider protesting that Orthodoxy was the original faith, but not wish to deny that as Africans they're stuck with the Curse of Ham (after all, it's the only role available for all non-European, non-Middle Eastern people who wish to be christoislamic). QUOTEThen, in 1873, Pope Pius IX prayed for the
QUOTE"wretched Ethopians in Central Africa"that QUOTE"Almighty God may at length remove the curse of Cham from their hearts."(Cham is the same as Ham)
( http://freetruth.50webs.org/A4b.htm ) AndQUOTEIn 1935 Fascist Italy attacked and invaded Abyssinia. Since the population of Italy lacked enthusiasm for this agression, the pope hastened to declare a new crusade. For example the Archbishop of Tarent, holding a Holy Mass on a submarine, declared: "The war against Abyssinia should be viewed as a Holy War, as a crusade," which also opened "Ethiopia, the land of infidels and schismatics, to the Catholic Faith." Link( http://freetruth.50webs.org/A7c.htm ) 'Dravidian' is like Indo-European/Aryan. Dravidian means 'Hamitic Indian' (just like Indo-European/Aryan actually means Japhetic). So why would anyone who is not christian even accept this nonsense? Look at those brainwashed Indians in S India who actually believe they are Dravidians. They are willing to play the part of the oppressed Hamitic people who were conquered by some imaginary alien japhetites that brought them the only Indian civilisation recognised by the west. S Indians are willing to relinquish their claims to Hindu civilisation, their contributions to it, by taking on the role of 'Dravidian' - the most underwritten and worthless part ever - an idea that has seeped in through the 'secular' disguise that christianity occasionally wears. Africa will not ever amount to anything - though it amounted to a lot in the past - unless its people avoid christoislamism. Because once converted, they think both their past and future is as failed Hamites. With such a defeatist attitude, their future will be a failure (though their past never was - that's all in their distorted chriso understanding of it). Then the only way that converted Africans will think they are on equal footing with Japhetic people is when they learn, also from the west/Japhetic teaching, that they've in recent times been given equal status by the church which has slowly been drawing christoislamic racism to a close. Converted Africans have to be told from outside that 'you're not inferior because you're darker, we realise that now' for them to know it for themselves. Yet they don't realise they never had an inferiority complex before, that they always knew they were equals with any others and that this new Hamitic thinking is a recent development since when christoislamism made an appearance amongst them. So it is in their capacity as Hamites that converted brown people all over the world become angry to have been discriminated against, to have been side-lined, to have been colonised (see Meera Nair's Vanity Fair where she makes the British characters do bollywood stuff; in an interview she gloated that this was somehow a payback to the british colonisers! Huh?), to have been neglected and victimised. Even in this, they can only ever think as the wronged Hamite who ought to have been treated as brothers. Because they are christoislamic they don't think from the POV of the wronged Ancient African or Indian or Phillipino or Australian Aborigine or Korean who insists theirs is an ancient and valid civilisational ethos which had been undermined by Europeans brainwashed by racist christo doctrines. By thinking as a christo (hamite), subjugation will never end. Untermensch status will ever be their lot, because just by the process of conversion, the darker human makes a little covenant to forever think of himself as a descendant of Ham whose place in the bible's human hierarchy is well-known. The only future that christoislamism ever promises African, Asian, and other unconverted 'hamitic' people is a prison from which they will never emerge as anything more than the Hamitic slaves. The part of Canaan's offspring is written right until doomsday and it will not change. If people want to be christian, they'll have to okay with playing the slave and untermensch forever. No sane person would choose that, but then, on conversion one loses all rational and critical thought. Rather than being impossible, it becomes natural to think that all of one's ancient history and identity (being completely interwined with one's Natural Religion as they are) was meaningless and worthless until christoislamism finally made you someone. To those thus stuck with Hamitic thinking, untermensch is better than being an unsaved nobody. People talk of colonial subjugation and the after-effects that produce negative thinking in the colonised peoples. But they never think that christoislamism is a form of more violent and more complete colonisation: the Hamitic syndrome that does not even allow the victims to cling to their cherished (religio-cultural) identity and past. Having surgically separated the man from his being through the process of conversion, it merely plays into the christoislamic colonial/imperialist idea that others were and are savages and have always been incapable of anything on their own. And from the converted mindset (with its symptomatic Hamitic syndrome) the christianised/islamised people can never recover themselves, precisely because they have nothing to recover into (they already lost their original identity, sometimes they themselves trampled on it with a wish to kill it). In the end, it's only the money, genocide and working with islamic terrorists that is 'winning' any converts for christ in India. But even ten thousands of crores of rupees aren't doing their expected magic. That's why the US is trying desperately to speed up the process from its end too: it keeps getting its universities (as well as their planted psecular helpers and media in India) to write propaganda against Dharmic religions, hoping that their false history of India and their perverted vision of Dharmic religions will wean people off. In other words, by creating distasteful lies about our own religion, they think it will stop appealing to us. Poor US, poor christoterrorism, it's so slow going. Maybe if they prayed to supreme Mahendra or the invincible Hanuman, they'll be victorious? My mistake. That would defeat the purpose, now wouldn't it. To stop the steady flow of the dollar/euro bill into India, we should ideally join with all other colonised countries and agitate for a return either in cash or in kind of all resources, treasures and other valuables stolen from our countries. We should be kind and not demand interest, inflation-adjusted for 2000s. (Either that, or we tell them to just drop off their 'charity money' as repayments-by-installment to the heathen members of our governments; but need to make it clear they can keep their missionaries.) That will perhaps impoverish the western christo countries a bit and slow-down the flow of christoterrorist money into India and into other unsaved nations. Promptly Francis Xavier was sent to Portugal in 1541. Already in 1545 Francis Xavier wrote to Rome from Goa , asking for the Inquisition to be installed immediately. King João III under the influx of the Dominicans, considered the Inquisitor General to be worth more than royalty itself, and surrendered his powers totally to the Company of Jesus, granting the widest possible powers to the Jesuits, who were able even to alter the civil laws. Even the Viceroys of India were afraid of the Inquisition., The Christian religion on account of its mystical passivity leads to a state of apathy. It was a regression to medieval apathy, extinguishing all individualism, by the contemplation of Death and the terrors of Hell, by frequent confessions. In another chapter dealing with the nefarious, fiendish, lustful, corrupt religious orders which pounced on Goa for the purpose of destroying paganism and introducing the true religion of Christ ( poor Jesus, if He only knew what was done in His name!), I have dwelt briefly on the Inquisition, which was introduced in 1560 and lasted until the year 1812, that is a span of 252 years, during which period it held its sway with a power that Stalin and other tyrants would have liked to hold. Stalin was a tyrant, murderer, but at least he was not a hypocrite. Xavier did not see his wish fulfilled, but in the year 1560 the first inquisitors Aleixo Dias Falcão and Francisco Marques, secular canonists, established the Inquisition in Goa. http://www.apol.net/dightonrock/inquisition_goa.htm Christian subversion and missionary activities -2 - Guest - 03-06-2007 QUOTE(Mudy @ Mar 3 2007, 10:40 PM)
QUOTEIt is high time that the Hindu religious leaders and organisations should take a more aggressive posture to convert Hindus into Hindu fold. In place of putting responsibility on leaders or organization, every Hindu should take responsibility first to educate its own family, be humble with other human, if they have sufficient for themselves they should adopt other poor family. Oddie; Publisher: Sage Publications; Price: Rs.450. The idea of 'Hinduism' the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claims as its own may after all be a creation of Christian priests and travellers from the West in the 16th and 17th century, argues historian Geoffrey A. Oddie in his new book. The Australian scholar and theologist quotes Wilfred Cantwell Smith (1962) to reiterate that the idea of religion itself is a European construct and that the concept that 'India is essentially a Hindu country' is a missionary-implanted idea. Oddie, a visiting professor at the United Theological College, Bangalore, has taught history of religion at the University of Sidney since 1964. Speaking to IANS here, Oddie said Hindu rightwing parties like the BJP have gone back to 'early missionary views of Hinduism'. Placing his thesis in context, he says the Romans thought of religion as ceremony while early Christians stressed the importance of belief. 'During the Enlightenment (renaissance), religion came to be thought of even more strongly as an objective reality, rather like natural objects that could be explored through scientific enquiry. 'The usual assumption of 17th and 18th century commentators was that there was just four religions in the world: Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Paganism or Heathenism,' says Oddie in his book. So, anything beyond the pale of Europe's known world was Paganism, including all far-eastern faiths and the new continent's beliefs, for example, those in countries like China, India, Peru and Mexico. 'Paganism or heathenism as words used (in writings of the period) are very broad and loosely defined terms meant to include all non-Christian religions apart from Judaism and Islam.' Oddie here refers to the extensive correspondence of the priest and printer, founder of the Tranquebar Protestant Mission, Ziegenbalg, who studied Tamil practices of the region and William Carey's well-known 'Enquiry', published in 1792 from Bengal. The protestant missionary societies in Britain had an important role to play in the perception of 'religion' of India, especially after 1793, he says. As Europeans travelled to the Americas and Fareast, the question arose whether 'paganism' was the same everywhere. The interpretation was what suited evangelic societies and the empire. Oddie here draws from Andrew Porter's monumental study of religion and empire in India to emphasise that people like Bishop Heber and Claudius Buchanan contributed to the portrait of Hinduism as it is perceived today. 'The Company (East India Company) was the Christian administration,' says the book and argues, 'The focus was on the company's alliance with the Hindu system'. Earlier, travellers like the protestant Dutch adventurer John Huyghen van Linschoten and Pietro Della Valle provided their 'genteel' accounts of Indian religious beliefs in the 1580s. Writings of travellers like Varthema, who adopted Islam, Della Valle, a Catholic, Francois Bernier (1670s), who was what French intellectual circles called a Skeptic, and Jean-Baptiste Tavernier (1677-1688) contributed a great deal to British perception of India's religion. Varthema, for example, described the religion of the Vijayanagaram kingdom as pagan. Geroge Pettitt, a missionary in Tirunelveli, described the worship of 'lower classes' and accounts of the times are filled with what was called 'gentoo mythology' (from the word gentiles). These writings all showed India had different faiths in different geographical locations even in the early 18th Century. 'Whatever conviction there was among travellers that India's faith and worship was a unified pan-Indian system was probably reinforced by a feeling that it was Brahmans who were ultimately in control,' says Oddie. A long tradition in Europe concerning the wisdom of Brahmans prevailed from the time of the Greek interaction with North India, he adds. By the time Edward Sargent and the likes described the worship of Pei (Pay) and used words like 'us' and 'them', the imperial idea of Hinduism had taken root. The first modern Indian to perhaps speak of Hinduism as such was Bengal reformist Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Oddie says. 'He spoke in terms of 'real' Hinduism and 'fake' Hinduism in the context of rituals like Sati. 'The thinker Vivekananda, like all nationalists, was under great pressure to show India was unified and had an unified religion' in the face of adamant British reasoning that India was faction-ridden and needed the 'higher' authority of British rule,' Oddie says. Christian subversion and missionary activities -2 - Guest - 03-07-2007 Dont't know whether posted before. Tehelka Investigative report on conversions in India by US Govt and Christian Evangelists Article appeared in : http://www.tehelka.com/story_main.asp?file...shashi.asp&id=1 Christian subversion and missionary activities -2 - Guest - 03-08-2007 Christian anti-semitism raises its ugly head again. They say the law, the first ever to have been passed by a Congress government, goes against the party's commitment to allow Indians freedom to "practise, profess and propagate" their faith. Usually seen at the forefront for defending the party, the groups now say the law amounts to a breach of faith. Several Christian clerics, heads of Christian organisations and even the Vice-Chairman of a State Minorities Commission have written to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the past few weeks in this regard. In a letter dated January 12, Abraham Mathai, Maharashtra Minorities Commission vice-chairman, wrote: "It may be recalled that even in your capacity as the chairperson of the UPA government and president of the Congress party, you had condemned these Bills publicly and also written to the All-India Christian Council about the same in a letter dated 27th July 2006. It was encouraging to know that the Congress party in all these five states under your able leadership had vehemently opposed these Bills and even demonstrated against them." Mathai goes on to express his disappointment saying: "Such a Bill that undermines the very spirit of democracy especially in a Congress-ruled state is an embarrassment to the party, which is seen as the only hope and champion of secularism in this nation. Besides negotiating and contradicting the integrity and the stand of the Congress on this issue, such a trend when allowed to continue will even weaken our resolve in fighting against communal forces and their repressive policies." In a separate letter to Sonia, the president of the National United Christian Forum, Archbishop Vincent M Concessao, writes that this is "the last thing that the citizens, particularly the minorities, expected from the Congress." All those writing to Sonia have cited the other four states (Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan), which had passed similar anti-conversion laws and the Congress party's opposition to those laws. In a strongly-worded paragraph in his letter to Sonia, secretary of All-India Christian Council Sam Paul has requested the Congress president to "constitute an inquiry against the Himachal Pradesh chief minister for anti-party activities and set the record straight by repealing this anti-human rights law of the Anti-Conversion Bill." The law passed by the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, and given his assent by the Governor on February 10, prevents conversion by coercion or allurement ââ¬â by "inducement direct or indirect", something already defined as illegal by the law of the land. Christian clerics say the law makes Christian groups vulnerable by presuming that they engage in "forcible" conversions and hampering other work they may attempt to do. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, on his part, has said he "has not banned conversions, but only laid down a procedure for it, and prevented fraudulent conversions". The Bill was brought in after the CM assured the House that it would be enacted after a BJP MLA wanted to bring in a Private Member's Bill on the subject in the last Budget session. When finally presented in the House, it was supported by the Opposition BJP and amendments brought in by them were also passed. There are about 10,000 Christians in Himachal out of a total population of 64 lakh.
