The leaders of major Jewish organizations have enthusiastically welcomed the Rev. John Hagee's Christians United for Israel, or CUFI, which is holding a "Night to Honor Israel" in San Antonio this weekend. But some aspects of Hagee's effort do not bode well for Israel or American Jews.

CUFI brings together powerful leaders of the Christian right (the Revs. Jerry Falwell and Benny Hinn and former presidential candidate Gary Bauer, to name a few) whose domestic agenda is opposed by the majority of American Jews.

And because CUFI's support for Israel is based on a particular interpretation of biblical prophesies, CUFI opposes compromises that might let Israel secure peace. This puts CUFI at odds with most Israelis and ultimately will put it out of synch with Jewish organizational leaders, whose positions have historically evolved in response to Israeli policies.

Gershom Gorenberg, a leading Israeli expert on Christian Zionism, recently explained how Christian Zionists' positions on Israel and the Middle East (Hagee advocates a U.S. attack on Iran) place them "at the far edge of the radical right within Israeli politics." Speaking on the public radio program "Fresh Air," Gorenberg said the Christian Zionists "tend to support military action over diplomacy. It's worth stressing that this puts them far from the mainstream of Israeli politics."

Christian Zionists base their opposition to ceding land on biblical interpretation. Hagee, speaking on the same program, gave a scriptural defense for his opposition to territorial compromise: "Joel 3:2 says do not do it. Those who divide up the land of Israel will come under the judgment of God. Therefore, don't do it. It's just that simple."

Christian Zionism focuses on "end times" scenarios that involve "ingathering" all the world's Jews in Israel against a backdrop of major international warfare. Jewish leaders correctly dismiss this as an irrelevant rationale for the political support of CUFI's leaders and the millions of Christians whom they represent.

Gorenberg, however, points out the contradiction in the use of the term Zionism by these Christian leaders, who, he says, are "seeing the Jews as actors in a Christian drama leading toward the end of days." By contrast, says Gorenberg, "real Zionism, as a Jewish movement, is a movement aimed at taking Jews out of the mythological realm and making them into normal actors in history, controlling their fate and acting for pragmatic reasons connected to the here and now. So what's called Christian Zionism is actually very distant from Zionism."

Hagee has promised Jewish leaders that CUFI will not use its support for Israel as a cover for evangelizing the Jews. But most of the members of CUFI's board and its regional leaders believe that Jews cannot be "raptured" in the "end times" unless they accept Jesus Christ as messiah.

Especially problematic is the domestic divide between CUFI's leaders and the vast majority of Jews, who vote Democratic, favor church-state separation, support gay rights and privacy in matters of reproductive health.

In an interview with the Express-News in July, Hagee brushed them aside: "I think if I could put a dividing line, the Orthodox and Conservatives who have a Torah appreciation give us wholehearted support. The rest who are not driven by the Word of God have a liberal agenda. And the liberal agenda is they are pro-abortion. They're pro-homosexual. They're pro-gay marriage â they want men to marry men and women to marry women â and their difference with me is not really what I'm doing with Israel. Their hostility to me is poisoned by their liberalism."

With Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, billed as a featured speaker at the Cornerstone Church event, the majority of Jews whom Hagee describes as "poisoned" should worry about how forcefully Jewish leaders will voice the community's views on crucial domestic issues â not about their toxicity.

They're simply not going to believe he is the Messiah until they actually see him, and that's at the Second Coming. Then, at that point in time, there is the judgment of the nations in which all nations are judged for the way in which they have treated the nation of Israel and the Jewish people, and the Jewish people are front and center in the kingdom of God that will be an eternal kingdom.

Hagee and his fellow Christian Zionists have gone to great lengths to reassure Jewish organizations that they will not take advantage of their activities in support of Israel to try to convert Jews.

Their whole plan to speed up the second-coming hinges on Israel and the conversion of (some? all?) of its Jewish population. Sad, sad.
Reminds me of Martin Luther who liked the Jews initially. He tried to convert them, tried to convince them that jeebus creeper was the messiah and all. They told him how jeebus didn't fit the description of the messiah at all, and Luther lost it when he saw that they had irrefutable proof. Luther's whole life - from lusty Catholic monk of an Augustinian monastery to his glory days as Protestant reformer - would have been a lie of gigantic proportions. So he became furious, vented his doubts and venom in his well-known book of propaganda containing violent hatred against Jews and in doing so, inspired the nazis. The rest, as they say, is history .... the history of the Holocaust, that is.

Luther, that pillar of Christo morality, wasn't merely an arch anti-semite.
He hated practically everybody, but since he was a good Christo, that's only to be expected:
- Being a very appropriate spokesperson for the True Egalitarian religion of Christianity, he whipped up genocidal hatred against the common people (peasants), directly being responsible for the genocide of 100,000 of them.
- He reminded his followers of that other prime principle of Christianity: hatred of women
- And of course the Christo 'love' for logical thought has not been ignored by Luther: he whines on and on about how Reason is evil. (Lutheran converts, please take note)
- He continued Christo detestation of disabled people, including children

Besides, "The Nazis imprisoned and killed Jews who had converted to Christianity" hides a vast truth. Yes, nazis killed Jews who had converted to Christianity - these nazis were the very protestant reverends, catholic priests and good lay Christos who betrayed formerly Jewish members (and Christian members with Jewish ancestry) of their own congregations to the Nazi state! In other words: nazi Germany's lay Christos and priests of both denominations were nazis.

With 'prestigious' universities/institutes like Fordham perpetuating Christo lies to keep the genocidal Christo religion safe from its own effects (the Holocaust), is it any wonder why Christo anti-semitism continues?

BANGALORE: Across the country, good Christians are
consoled by the belief that Jesus Christ is present in
the call centres, and are disturbed by the fear that
he might be the only unmarried virgin out there.

Unable to bear the tales emerging from Indian
outsourcing' s famous night shift, of condoms clogging
toilets, live-in relationships, drugs and other joys
condemned in the Old Testament, men who call
themselves shepherds are offering to show one road
that everybody points to the young the right path.

Christian evangelical groups are asking the youth to
carry chastity cards that say, "I commit before god to
save the gift of my sexuality from now until marriage,
regardless of my past." Catholic priests are
cautioning parents about the moral perils of the
profession.

Spiritual counsellors are seeking out lovers and
asking them not to get physical. And they are also
telling homosexuals that they must be mentally ill.
Scores of evangelical Christians have even infiltrated
call centres in the guise of regular workers to keep
an eye on the youth. 

In a country where parents believe that their
daughters can be despoiled only after sunset, it was
inevitable that the arrival of nocturnal call centres
would bring in fears of wards gone astray.

The Christian concern is birthed in the fact that a
growing number of its youth is entering call centres.
The Indian outsourcing industry, where call centres
occupy the lower rungs today, employs about 400,000,
with an average starting salary of over Rs 10,000.

Squirming under the moral scrutiny, several call
centre workers, especially girls, feel cheapened by
the apostles of righteousness who try to reform them.
They say that the Christian brotherhood is full of
hormonal boys afflicted by their own prolonged
virginity.

"They are just desperate guys. They like to talk about
sex to girls. And religious counselling is a nice,
convenient way to do that," a girl who works in a
Bangalore call centre says. She was questioned about
her sex life by an evangelical co-worker who revealed
to her that he was there to show her type the right
path.

Twenty-seven- year-old Krishna Puri of ICICI OneSource
reflects a common sentiment, "This kind of counselling
is for school kids. We are mature. We can take care of
ourselves."

Among the many preachers of the lord's will is
31-year-old Dominic Dixon, from the Ministry of
Reconciliation and Evangelisation. He is newly the
author of The Beautiful Christian Mind Deliverance
From Mental Illness. He is sitting in the lobby of the
Oberoi Hotel in Bangalore. He is a short, dark man
with a slight paunch. His hair is gelled.

He is in a black shirt with geometric designs and
black trousers. He smells good. His phone is a latest
model. In him, there is this unmistakable assurance
that in this world some individuals may be liberal,
but all parents are conservative. And parents run the
world.

Dixon, born in the fringes of Chennai to a humble
ancestry, is now a seemingly successful man of God. "I
have trouble maintaining an Indian accent because I
travel so much around the world," he says.Â <img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ROTFL.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='ROTFL.gif' />

Dixon is against the Catholic Church embracing yoga,
meditation and Buddhist philosophies. "The Bible does
not preach these," he says in a calm confident manner.
He chuckles when he says, "yoga".

He is also against pre-marital sex, masturbation,
abortion, homosexuality and drugs. "Call centres are
an embodiment of all this," he says. "From the very
start they promoted unethical activities. Workers were
asked to employ a fake accent and tell lies on the
phone."Â <img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/omg.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='omg.gif' />

Dixon shows a yellow chastity card that he has been
distributing. He plans to start a virginity campaign
in the Mount Carmel college. That's the way to catch
the young before they are corrupted in call centres,
he says. "I have a lot of contacts in the outsourcing
industry.

They call me to counsel workers regularly. If I am
counselling Hindus, in the beginning I use the word,
'God' but ultimately I give Jesus. I give the gospel.
Many accept it." What does he talk to them about? What
do they say are their problems?

"They never say anything. The Holy Spirit inspires me.
The Holy Spirit talks to me. That's how I know what
their problems are," he says.

That brings to mind the exasperated query of a young
Hindu girl this reporter spoke to earlier "Why does
the Holy Spirit inspire them to talk only about sex?"
Dixon believes that the biggest problems facing call
centre workers are usually rooted in sex.
"Lesbianism is rampant," he says. "One hundred percent
of all the homosexuals I have counselled were mentally
ill. It is a disorder and I tell them that."

He says that the "moral situation" in the call centres
has alarmed the pious so much that, "some Christian
organisations have planted their boys and girls in at
least 60 call centres in Bangalore alone to catch
those who are going astray. To talk to them and bring
them back to Jesus. I too have planted some."

How does he plant them?

"I have contacts. And the attrition rate is so high in
the industry, if you can speak in English, you will be
employed in a call centre." One such God's own mole is
29-year-old Barnabas Kumar, an unmarried protestant
pastor in Bangalore, who worked in Siemens for about
four years, and another call centre for two months.

Barnabas has an endearing angelic face that looks
particularly cherubic under a Nike monkey cap. He is
in a beige windsheeter and there is something innocent
about him. His grandfather was a Hindu who, "accepted
Christ". Barnabas cleared his tenth standard and after
difficulties in going any further, he turned to
theology. He runs his own church.

"A few years ago, I began to notice that the youth
have stopped coming to the church. That's when I
learnt about call centres and how the youth was
working in the night and sleeping in the day. And I
heard a lot of disturbing stories too. Jesus went to
the people. So I too decided to join a call centre and
help."

He worked on the floor of a call centre as an
assistant manager in quality control, a person who has
to check if others are being efficient. "That's when I
heard about live-in relationships. I was fascinated,"
he says. His large boyish eyes widen.

In the first call centre he worked, for several months
nobody except one Human Resource manager knew that he
was a pastor. But after a sudden public preaching
session on the floor, a lot of colleagues came to know
that he was god's fellow.

Barnabas used to keep a close eye on the workers to
seek out evidences of office romance. Once he caught a
whiff of love, "I would probe about their love life."
Even girls? "Chiefly girls, because they need
assistance. I would try to come across as a friend, as
though I am cool with what they do.

And then they'd open up. Sometimes, of course, they
would get offended. There was this 22-year-old girl. I
have informers everywhere who tell me stuff and I was
told that she was seeing a colleague. She was a
beautiful girl. He was a dumb guy. But she thought he
was a genius.

I could not bear it. She was going astray. I called
her to me and asked her if she was having sex. In the
beginning, she was offended. She asked me who I was to
ask such things. But I persisted. I kept asking her if
she was sleeping with him. Finally, she admitted that
she was having a live-in relationship.

He was a dumb guy. I told her, she should either ask
him to marry her or leave him. I spoke to the boy too.
I asked him why he was forcing himself on her. She was
so beautiful I didn't want her to be spoiled."

Barnabas' face clenches. He is angry at the memories.
"I tried to give her Jesus. I told her, 'I have a
heart for you. Not because you are beautiful but
because God has an eye on you'."

But Barnabas could not break them up. Was he ever
attracted to the girls he was trying to reform? They
were beautiful, he was single and they were telling
him personal things. Love blooms in such situations.

"Yes. But prayers saved me. Some girls even made
passes at me. One girl says, 'you are capable of many
things it seems, you must come to my house'. Another
girl sat next to me in a very suggestive way. I
prayed. And I told her that she was not gold that can
be used often.

I told her, she was a diamond. She said, 'Cho Chweet'.
Next day, she called me and said, 'Even a diamond is
used sometimes'. I asked her if she would be willing
to lead a frugal life, survive on porridge sometimes?
I knew that would put her off."

Barnabas also studied the drug culture in the call
centres. "They used to do all kinds of stuff," he
says. "They had their own codes too. Boys and girls
who wore a black thread around their neck with a glass
pendant that had a weed design etched on it were the
ones who were interested in buying or selling drugs."

About two years ago, Barnabas left his call centre
interlude, having learned enough and to devote more
time on his church activities. While Christian groups
have been trying to reform its young, the Catholic
Church in India, apart from priestly interactions with
parishioners, has not taken a formal stand yet on the
issue.

Father Francis Yeluvathingal who is attached to the
Bishop House in Mumbai says, "We do not condemn call
centres. They are a very good source of income. But we
are concerned about the Christian way of life too."

Do watch. Knowledge is power. Knowledge helps one to develop the correct perspective. There are many Hindus, well-meaning as they may be and are not psuedo-secular, who are completely ignorant about the extent of christianity's deceptions and misdeeds, because they have been brought up surrounded by the myths propagated generously by the christian institutions and the Indian media, including Indian movies, that portray the christian as always the good guy and the hindu as always the villian. The hindus thus lack awareness on christianity's true face. When they come over to the west, and hear for the first time the numerous cases of sexual abuses, money laundering, cheating, extortion, etc., by christian church and priests, they are extremely surprised. Such news never makes it most of the time in the Indian press. For many hindus, true education on christianity starts when they come to the west.

Jonathan Reckford took over as Habitat's CEO last year after a career that saw him wind his way, among other places, through Goldman and Sachs, Marriot Corp, Disney, Circuit City and Best Buy, finally becoming executive pastor of the 4,300-member Christ Presbyterian Church of Edina, a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

Reckford, 42, said a team led by Carter, who turned 82 on October 1, and his wife Rosalyn will work for five days, starting October 30, to set up the 100 homes in Lonavala.

"This project has lot of emotional attachment for Jimmy Carter as his mother Lillian, when she was 67, served in the Peace Corps many years back and she worked in the Lonavala area as a nurse helping local people," said Reckford.

These homes will be given to local people who have already been selected by Habitat's local partners, the Abhinav Co-operative Credit Society, a non-governmental organisation with 600 shareholders from 48 groups in 26 villages that promotes education, and organises programmes on nutrition, health care, legal rights, women's empowerment, income-generation, social forestry and community development.

But its 'IndiaBuild' programme has grander goals -- to build 50,000 homes for 250,000 people in India in the next five years. And given its record -- it has already set up 12,000 homes and, in tsunami-struck South India, it built more than 1,700 homes in the year that followed.

In an interview to Rediff India Abroad Senior Editor Ajit Jain in Canada, Reckford discusses the housing problem in India and Habitat's plans there.

Is this is the first time Habitat is going to India?

The programme has existed since 1984. But Jimmy Carter and Mrs Carter will be going to India on behalf of Habitat International for the first time to build 100 homes in Lonavala, near Mumbai.

President Carter first went to India in 1978 when he was still in office. Is this just his second visit there?

Yes. But there are also personal ties that take him to India. His mother Lillian, when she served in the Peace Corps many years ago, was based in this very town -- Lonavala.

[I hear there will be thousands of volunteers from many countries working in Lonavala?[/I]

That's our hope. Historically, we would have typically 2,000 volunteers participating. One thing special about this project is it will bring together volunteers from the host country with volunteers from around the world.

[I]I also read that these houses will cost just Rs 100,000. Can you build a house at that price?

The prices vary from country to country. In the US, houses are more expensive, obviously, because of building codes and other requirements. We have been able to build homes in some parts of the world for as little as US $800 to $1,000. Those, of course, are very simple structures.

And what about the ones you hope to build now?

In India also, very simple homes will be built. They will comprise of a living room, kitchen, toilet, bathroom, etc. The house, for a family of 4 to 5 people, will include plumbing, running water, electricity, etc.

How can you ensure that your local affiliate, Habitat India, and the local NGO, Abhinav, will stick to your plan?

This is not for Habitat International to come and do everything. We only go into areas where we are invited. So the official host and the sponsor is Habitat India and the local partners working with us in the Mumbai region is Abhinav.

Your press release says you will have large number of volunteers from local churches.This is a sensitive issue in Maharashtra region, given that it could be given a communal colour.

I appreciate your caution. We are very sensitive about this ourselves. It is important to understand that Habitat International is an ecumenical Christian ministry in that it is a very inclusive one. We very happily work with people of all faiths who want to support eradication of poverty. So, we joyfully welcome volunteers of all faiths who want to participate in our efforts to serve these families.

But isn't this still a contentious issue?

There are few important things to remember here. We don't discriminate against anyone. We serve any family that meets our three criteria. One is, you are low-income family earning 20 to 50 per cent less than the median income of the area.

Second, you are willing to put in 'sweat' equity. We require the families' participation in the building of their homes and to help other families build their homes.

Third, families commit to paying back a very low mortgage. They pay their loan back and thus help other families.

There is a serious housing problem in India. Over 350 million people still need homes. Then there are 40 million people living in urban slums, a number that is increasing as more and more people move to urban areas in search of work

It's obviously an enormous and complicated problem in India. We fully recognise it. Habitat can be one very small part of the total solution. One reason we do this project is because it draws a lot of media attention to the needs for affordable housing. It is something people who have decent housing take for granted and don't think about.

So how do you resolve this?

Our experience for housing in a substantive way is to have a partnership. The government has to be involved along with the private sector, along with NGOs. It will take that triangle -- all these working together to make significant progress.

The private sector can have a big impact in helping create a work force for building decent housing. We believe the government needs to be involved in terms of housing policies, in terms of creating land and infrastructure and utilities. We need the NGOs to marshal resources.

How and why?

We try to help people understand the need to break the cycle of poverty. I think people first think of food, clean water, health care and education. We would like people to be aware of decent shelter as the foundation for achieving many of these things.

And how does that help?

Several studies have shown that if a child who grows up in a simple but decent home with a solid floor and a dry roof, it has a dramatic impact on the child's health, which in turn has dramatic impact on the child being in school, which in turn has an impact on the child being able to earn an income and break that cycle of poverty.

So is housing the ultimate solution?

We recognise that housing is one piece but a critical piece for families to emerge out of poverty. It will take a concerted effort on the part of all these sectors.

To what extent is the Indian government, the Maharashtra state government or the local government involved in the Lonavala project?

I don't believe the Indian government is involved. We are working with a number of corporations and NGOs, stakeholders and partners in India. There's, of course, our close cooperation with Habitat India and different local governments.

President Carter can draw a lot of media attention in India. Are there advantages beyond the short-term ones?

In addition to the short-term attention, we will engage local volunteers who start to understand the impact of housing. They often become leaders of this movement. Our hope is that the many volunteers will become the backbone of this IndiaBuild campaign. We have seen similar things happen in South Korea and Philippines -- sustained, long-term expansion. The Carter project is an important catalyst.

Once this project is done and you leave, will you keep a close eye on work there?

We stay very engaged at the local level because Habitat International workers are in a relationship with each partner. The regional office for India headquartered in Bangkok works closely with the international headquarters.

And what are your inputs here?

We provide them support -- financial, training and other types of support -- so they can be effective. We do all what we can to support them but still they are locally owned. We (Jimmy Carter, Mrs Carter and volunteers) are going to an India-owned mission. IndiaBuild programme will only have some support from Habitat International.

What are your plans for it?

We also have a whole series of plans and standards for each country programme. That's why we feel so strongly about this IndiaBuild programme. These 100 homes we construct will be (the first) in a five-year programme. That way we ensure that it's not just one big splash, one event.

Do you have a message for your volunteers and those corporate entities supporting the IndiaBuild programme?

First, I must thank these volunteers. It would never be possible without these critical partners. It is their support and volunteering which makes this IndiaBuild programme happen. We are grateful to them.

India has an enormous housing problem, as you also admit. Are you still optimistic that you can help solve the problem?

I am optimistic but I don't want to downplay how serious the problem is. I know how enormous the challenge is -- there are 350 million people without homes and 40 million living in urban slums. So, the challenge is for more and more people to get involved and try to make a difference. I think it is solvable but it is not solvable without an enormous effort. It will be tough, expensive and very hard work but it is really important work.

The idea that 1000s of volunteers, from around the world, will descend in India for this project is troubling. We know that the vast, vast majority are going to be christians from various churches in the US - the all eager to use this opportunity to bring the 'good old' gospel word out to the Indians living in the dark. This project will make it easier for the christian fanatics to enter into the country in large groups, without being subject to scrutiny.

Telugu website reporting about allegations of attempts to do mass conversions in the area between Nagarjuna Sagar and Miryalguda. BJP's AP state Vice President, Prof S.V Sheshagiri Rao is the one saying that foreigners from US and Canada have entered the area with the target of converting atleast 15,000 people a month and said that their visas need to be revoked and they need to be sent back.

My dad travels a lot and has been to Thailand often. He brought back a poster of the beautiful Emerald or Jade Buddha and told us about the Thai monarchs (Rama the nth). His engineering associates there asked my dad whether he knew Pali or Samskrit (Thai people often have partly-Samskrit names, and it's considered prestigious to study Pali and Samskrit). They were thrilled when he spoke to them in Samskritam. He really likes Thailand and loves the people. He kept telling us how they valued their religion and culture and how he wished all Indians would still be like that.

Until I touched down there, it was all just stories. But even that one-day visit made a very great impression. I got to see how much their religion is part of their lives. It's good to know.

YAVATMAL, India (Reuters) - Taking off his shoes and joining his palms together in prayer, young engineer Ravi Turkane stands under a sizzling sun waiting to be reborn as a Buddhist.

"From today I am not a Hindu and I shall not go to a temple to pray to a Hindu deity," said Turkane, repeating initiation vows with thousands of other low-caste Hindus like himself.

"From today I'm reborn as a follower of Lord Buddha."

For millions of low-caste Hindus like Turkane, a switch in their faith is not so much a spiritual choice as a matter of dignity.

Only by converting can they escape the rigidity of a 3,000-year-old Hindu caste system dominated by the once-priestly class of Brahmins.

Hindu scriptures separate people into Brahmin priests, warriors, farmers and labourers, while the rest are beyond definition - called "Dalits".

These low-caste Hindus were once considered "untouchables", performing the most menial and degrading jobs.

The ancient caste system has persisted in India - mostly in villages -- despite the country's spectacular economic success and exposure to Western culture which has re-moulded social paradigms in the conservative nation.

Turkane, a 29-year-old hardware engineer, is part of that urban-based economic boom and is well-accepted among his engineer friends in the technological hub of Hyderabad.

But, a few hundred kilometres away in his native cotton-growing village, his caste identity overshadows his achievements and his family are social outcasts, denied access to even basic amenities such as water from a community well.

"We can't go to the temple or attend marriages," said Turkane. About 25 other families in his village face similar restrictions.

EXPLOITATION AND HUMILIATION

India's constitution forbids caste discrimination.

But Dalits -- who constitute over 16 percent of India's 1.1-billion population -- are still often beaten or killed if they use a well or worship at a temple reserved for upper castes. "For generations we remained in Hinduism's fold but what have we got? Only exploitation and humiliation," said Turkane, who converted to Buddhism with about 9,000 other Dalits this month in the central city of Nagpur.

"If we can find dignity of life in another faith then why shouldn't we follow that path?" he asked.

Turkane's whole family converted with him. He is not sure if they will be accepted into the social fold in their village, but says that at least they cannot be discriminated against as low-caste Hindus.

For decades, conversion has been a sensitive issue in India, with right-wing Hindus accusing Christian missionaries in particular of converting poor Hindus with inducements such as free schooling and health care.

But Christians, who have long-advocated for the rights of Dalits, say those who switch their faith do so to escape the oppressive Hindu caste system.

Minority groups also say Hindu right-wingers polarise voters on religious lines to gain political mileage.

"An Indian has the right to pursue the religion of his choice. Why should that right be violated?," asked Udit Raj, a convert to Buddhism who helped conduct the ceremony in Nagpur and whose small Justice Party champions Dalit rights.

"That right is being diluted by the Hindutva (Hindu) parties for political reasons," he said.

Christian missionaries have been killed, churches vandalised and converts attacked as religious antagonism reaches a new high in a country where Hindu right-wing groups often hold ceremonies to "re-convert" Christians.

"Christians can't help even a person who is ill or has met with an accident because they are immediately charged with proselytisation," said Joseph D'Souza, president of the All-India Christian Council.

Hindus form 80 percent of secular India's billion-plus population while Muslims account for 13 percent, Christians less than three percent and religious minorities such as Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis make up the rest.

NEW LAWS

In recent months, five states ruled by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or its allies have introduced or strengthened anti-conversion laws, which they say will protect India's religious identity and foster communal harmony.

Muslim and Christian groups accuse the party of whipping up Hindu voters' fears to boost its political support.

"Why is it that only poor people in villages convert?" asked Prashant Harpalkar of the World Hindu Council.

Under some of the new laws, anyone planning to leave the Hindu fold must obtain certificates from officials and affidavits from courts saying they were converting out of free will and not by inducements.

"The constitution of India gives its citizens (the right) to practice any religion they choose. They are free to leave and take up any faith they want to," said Kancha Illaih, a leading political scientist and Dalit activist.

Last month, Gujarat passed a law branding Buddhism and Jainism as branches of Hinduism, sparking outrage among religious minorities who fear their unique identity would be wiped out.

"This is a conspiracy to just increase the number of Hindus by appropriating other distinctive religions into Hinduism," said Raj, a low-caste Hindu who converted to Buddhism.

"We will not give up without a fight to save our freedom of religion which is under seizure by Hindu zealots," he said.

On another matter:
Historian and ex-Franciscan monk Joseph McCabe, in his writings about the Jesuits (much-hated amongst even Catholic circles of their times and even by a Pope who sought to dissolve the Jesuit order), mentions the case of the Jesuit De Nobili who pretended he was a Hindu as well as others mascarading in India. Seems that those who favour his method of pretence and inculturation today would have been answerable to the Inquisition back in those days. Whatever they may say about it today, taking on Indian practises and dress is considered anti-christian and heresy:

In time the Jesuits quite openly lived as Brahmans among the Hindus, traveling in gaudy palanquins with natives cooling them with fans of peacock feathers. One, Father Beschi, won a native prince, became his chief minister, and rode about with an escort of thirty horses and a band. Others became pariahs and wandered about with a few dirty rags on them. The news exalted the pious ladies of Europe, especially when prodigious figures of conversions were thoughtfully added to the story; but priests and laymen were scandalized, and a fresh fierce attack was made on the Jesuits.

Both in China and India they made converts by blending the native superstitions with a discreet selection of Christian doctrines. When hot-blooded Indian women refused to exchange the little golden tingam (male organ) they wore at their breasts for a cross, the good Jesuits were content to engrave a cross on the treasured phallus! Other Jesuits held that wearing the sexual emblem of the Hindu deity was an innocent social custom, or that the woman had merely to convert it into a pious Christian act by a "direction of intention." Every variety of native superstition was thus consecrated, until the Papacy, after a prodigious struggle, was shamed by the leers of the increasing skeptics of Europe into suppressing the "Chinese and Malabar rites." The "converts" melted away at once.

The Jesuits at Rome used all their influence to protect these corrupt practices, and the reason was not merely that they might be able to boast of their hundreds of thousands of converts. For a hundred years they sanctioned this conduct of their missionaries in China and India, and, as usual, they fought the Pope and his Legates doggedly when they were ordered to desist. For ten years after their condemnation by Pope Clement XII they sustained their practices in the east, and Benedict XIV had in turn to issue two stern and indignant Bulls against them. The chief reason was that they were doing a most Prosperous trade on the strength of their missionary work. A manager of the French East India Company's branch at Pondicherry in the eighteenth century said that they did a larger and more profitable business in India than either the English or the Portuguese merchants. On the books of his own company a single debt of one hundred thousand dollars stood in the name of the Jesuit Father Tachard.

And here we have the meaning of the famous Jesuit settlements in Paraguay. The natives were in many respects harshly treated and they received no wages. The Jesuits, says their literary tool Cretineau-Joly, "did not think it proper to give ideas of cupidity to Christians"; so they kept them themselves. They defied the bishops and almost surpassed the audacity of their colleagues in any other part of the world. And they became mighty rich by their unselfish labors in South America.

Carter had to sign an Oath

Former U.S President Jimmy Carter revealed on Friday that he had to sign a personal undertaking that an international Charity Habitat for Humanity would not engage in religious conversion activities before the group was allowed to build houses for the poor in India. Mr. carter said he had given this undertaking to then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. 

Mr. Carter who will be in Mumbai to witness construction of small homes by Habitat for Humanity ,said the group had approached him in the U.S to intercede with the Government of India on its behalf.Though a former President,he had taken up the matter with Mr. Gandhi who asked him to sign the oath that there would be no proselytization activities.

I read this article too in the Washington Post. Let these pigs spread their hate.

The future will be dominated by many like me, strong confident Hindus who are well read and aware of our friends and enemies. These pigs will need our help in the future, and we will NEVER FORGET how we were treated in these times. Hindus arn't going anywhere even with these handful of converts, I ask these pigs, what will you do in the future of 1 Billion+ Industrialized Hindus in the world who can muster the same or greater economic power as you.
