Questions Related To India-forum Website - Guest - 10-14-2003

Hi all,

I just registered today.

I.F. need not duplicate BR's military topics but it certainly helps in having an alternative forum that covers those areas that BR does not do like History, strategic issues and politics. Some competition would do both forums good.

I began to dislike BR admins since they began banning Paki and Chinese participants way back in the beginning, and their brash slash tactics. But still visit the site everyday. IF will now be on my list of 'daily surf sites'.

Cheers. :cool

Congratulations and thanks to the folks who made this forum possible.

AT the outset let me make it clear

1) I am against banning anybody because of his views.

2) There are forum guidelines which need to be adhered to and respected. After all the supreme court (in US) has ruled that the bylaws (of a sub division) signed by a home owner take precedence over individual constitutional rights. SO forum rules prevail. But a greatest lattitude must be given to the forum members before resorting to draconian measures are instituted.

3) The forum should not only dwell in the past but must be critical about the present and how the past mistakes should /could be avoided.

4) There should be a quarterly magazine section which collects good discussion and converts them into articles and essays.

5) There should be a thread for This Week in World Press which collates some of the articles published by worlds leading news mags papers and web sites.

6) There could be region wide gurus like

Australia, Japan, HK, Indonesia etc.

China & TSP for one group because one is the shadow of the other.

US /Canada form a unit.

Mexico and Latin America should form a unit (If there is anybody who speaks/reads Spanish that would be a great asset) we need to find how the Latin public percieves India. Spain & Portugal could be in this unit.

UK France Germany one unit

Central Europe ( Hugary, Ukraine, Poland, Norway, Sweeden etc one unit.

Russia by itself one unit.

Finally never banish humor or pun, yes yes I know 'Free speech is limited' because its free. <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Just some initial thoughts.

All in all a great job and keep it up guys.

Jai Hind.

We need a news hound for this. while we are scouting for somebody, can you get it started.

some possible papers and agencies

NYT

WP

The Guardian

The Jerusalem Post

LAT

Papers from japan (mainichi shimbun etc.) and XinHua

Aussie papers

Canadian papers (globe and mail, montreal star

Russian and east european press

Chicago tribune

SJM (San Jose Mercury for Si Valley News)

Agence France presse

AP

UPI

West Asia press (including iran)

and many others

The coverage of the terrorist state is quite exhaustive in BR, and we need not duplicate that in the initial stages when we are not rich in manpower. That can wait when we attain a membership in the several hundreds. A good place for this World news thread(s) is in the strat forum.

Congratulations for an Indian forum that is quickly picking up speed!!

The format and range of topics is pretty good!

I registered in August, but this is my first post here. I have been away from both IF and BR for most of the past few months. I didn't know about a lot of things that happened at BR during that time. Although going by past happenings it seems that another of those "discussions" erupted that led to further pruning in the type of topics that could be discussed. It was apparent for a while that another forum was also needed. BR is a great forum, but is limited in mandate and scope to primarily military matters. Since perhaps many people at BR deal officially with Indian Military personnel regularly, they are bound to feel awkward including controversial political or religious topics in the forum due to the strong apolitical and secular nature of Indian armed forces. That dilemma is understandable. It is good for BR to be focused in its core competency that is military matters. But BR regularly attracts many patriotic Indians who wish to discuss aspects other than military, corectly believing that "security" goes beyond merely military matters. This forum hopefully will fulfill that gap and more.

Ashok.

Hi people

I am shiv of BRF

A lot of familar names here - and although I knew about this forum I found it only today. Good to see it working. I have felt and stated on BRF for at least 4 years that one popular forum is too little for a country as large and diverse as India. Too much is at stake and there really must be many, into which all sorts can fit in.

I am not really sure how much time I will have to spend on here, given my "duties" on BRF, but good going.

Please keep India's "jhanda" flying high. We need serious and committed people working on fora such as these

And all the best, whoever the admins on here are.

:thumbsup Welcome Dr.Shiv. :clapping

This forum was created to give a brether, for BRF.

hope you will take time to participate with your quality posts as you have been doing in BRF :cool <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

Welcome to shiv, arindam,Ray, vanahan and many others. thanks to shiv for the encouraging words. I-F has a ways to go before it reaches the content level of a mature site like BRF. I trust all members will consider actively participating, rather than wait for somebody else to post an interesting topic. Each site develops a unique personality over time and we trust I-F will develop its own personality distiinct from other sister sites.

We have a lot of new members, so a reminder of some guidelines to follow

1. No profanity or vulgarity

2. No personal attacks on other forum members or gratuitous flame baiting. By all means feel free to discuss/disagree with his/her post but not his/her personality, question motivations, or character or his/her political affiliation, presumed or actual. We do not encourage demeaning characterizations of any ethnic or religious group, community, tribe, race or nationality.

3. Generally all viewpoints are welcome and discussions on religion are permitted, based on facts and reasoning. If you feel particularly provoked by a particular post , sleep over it and frame a reply when you are in a more mellow mood and especially not when you are hopping mad.

4. As always, the general disclaimer applies - the views expressed here are those of the participants and not those of India-Forum.

Above all enjoy the freedom to participate responsibly and courteously and with a touch of humor.

Hello,

I am John Doe on BRF. Rytha told me of this site and Viren too I think sometime back but I only got around to getting here now. I am glad this forum is here without the restrictions of the BR administration which I personally find excessive.

Anyway, I am glad this is here and I will be participating here as time allows.

Thanks to Rytha and everyone else who set this forum up. If I can help with any web stuff or graphics or anything please let me know.

Thanks

J.D

Vishal, Definitely an oversight <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> . Consider yourself welcome , especially to all those who choose to post regularly. The success of the forum depends on active participation.

To Creators and Admins:

is it possible to not have too many forums and then sub forum etc. Guys like me who are not that savvy with Macs or PCs feel isolated and confused. make it more accessible and simple. I always tell my employees about the K.I.S.S principle.

Also how about opening a online store: for posters etc. [Send after expenses all revenue to Army Widows Fund]

Gill

PS Any member in NY here?

Questions Related To India-forum Website - Guest - 11-02-2003

Gill and all members as well,

a simple way to view new posts from you last visit(logged in)is by clicking "View New Posts" link at the top right corner of the pages. It will list you all new posts from last time you logged in. Graduate

Better still book mark that page, it will directly list the new posts since your last visits,(FYI:it will work only if u had enabled cookies <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> )
