But the outrage against scurrilous evangelical literature in Kota, Rajasthan virtually evaded nationÂ´s notice. Hakikat (The Reality), a substandard evangelical literature in Hindi, written by M.C. Mathew, and published by Dr. D.M. Thomas and Samuel Thomas of Emmanuel Literature Society, was source of major tension in Kota, Rajasthan recently. The book contains many vulgar references to Lord Ram and Krishna, Hindu saints like Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Satya Sai Baba, Ma Amritanandamayi, Digambar Jain saints, in addition to objectionable reference to Ganga, Vande Mataram, and Arya Samaj, ISKCON etc. The book is subtitled as an analytical study of 'Bunch of ThoughtsÂ´ by Guru Golwalkar. On page 100 it comments about Sri Ramâ"RamÂ´s wife Sita was been taken away. She was left in forest according to wish of Ram. Later Ram permitted Laxman to kill Sita. This Laxman was defeated in fight by Ram, and later Ram disgusted with his life drowned himself in Saryu. All this happened with advice, consent and religious belief of half-naked sadhus of Hindutva." Elsewhere in p. 269 it says: "In modern world many Ramas of this belief are living carefree. They marry several times, desert their wives, marry several times, and leave them. Many Ramas kill their Sitas. They are following their god Rama." But pray, why Vatican is still clinging to dead Latin in its services? Why Ratzinger on becoming Pope, addressed the international crowd first in Latin, which nobody understands?

Did Sri Ram ever depute any one to kill Sita? Might be Mr. Mathew knows better than the author of Ramayana. We knew that Sita was left in Sage VashishtaÂ´s cottage in sylvan forest. Sri Ram, felt that he was a king first, husband later, and when AyodhyaÂ´s people had indirectly cast doubt over SitaÂ´s chastity, she should be left, even to Sri RamÂ´s great agony. May be Sri Ram was overreacting, but he was more alive to peopleÂ´s concern.

The divorce and profligacy rate is much higher in Western (Christian) countries. History records that Popes had illegitimate children. Can we attribute this to Jesus Christ, who as Dan Brown has found out was married to Mary Magdalene but left her? Neither Hinduism, nor Christianity, has divorce, but it is obtainable under secular law in India as in any western country. I donÂ´t know if Ramayana has incited people to do single wicked act. Ramayana also elevated peopleÂ´s consciousness. It is one book, which we are never tired of living. Father Kamil Bulke, of Belgium, spent his lifetime researching on Ramayana-literature.

In Gospel, according to St. Matthew (12:47-48) when a disciple of Jesus informs him that his mother and brother have come to meet him, Jesus says, "Who is my mother, and who are my brethrenÂ´. In Western countries most parents end their life in old age homes, left by their children. One might then say, they owe their inspiration from Jesus, who refused to acknowledge his mother and brother, once he got popularity. Jesus himself has never said he was son of God, but always son of Man. To install Jesus as Son of God was the work of First Council of Nicea held in 325 CE. But Hindus have never leveled such scurrilous charges against Jesus. Is this not enough to prove who is acting godly and who otherwise.

About Vande Mataram it says-"For India the only use of Sanskrit is by Hindutvawadis to sing Vande Mataram". Vande Mataram is a wonderful hymn to Mother India, even Universal Motherhood, which is also enshrined in our Constitution as national song. Polyglot Indologist Sir William Jones has this to say about Sanskrit: "Sanskrit language is of wonderful structure, more perfect than Greek, more copious than the Latin."

Perhaps Mr. Mathew need to brush up his general knowledge on rich corpus of original dramas, poetry, songs, melodies, spiritual, medical, mathematical, astronomical and architectural literature created in Sanskrit. Thanks to 'SecularismÂ´ Sanskrit is not popularised, but people can understand every word of Vande Mataram. Moreover Sanskrit is the mother of most Indian languages, and itself has a mantric effect. If recited properly it has a healing and salutary effect on listeners like the chanting of OM. But pray, why Vatican is still clinging to dead Latin in its services? Why Ratzinger on becoming Pope, addressed the international crowd first in Latin, which nobody understands?

About Arya Samaj it makes most indecent remark that could make your blood boil. It says: "How could Arya Hindus bring Aryanisation on this earth. Hindu Radicals Wage Severe Persecution Campaign Against Hopegivers

(AgapePress) - Work continues at a Christian ministry to orphans and needy children in India, despite intimidation tactics and attacks by Hindu terrorists. The extremists, incensed over the publication of a banned booklet that unfavorably compares Hinduism with Christianity, have apparently blamed Hopegivers International and declared all-out war on the ministry.

The current trouble began last month for orphanages and hospitals in the state of Rajasthan, India, after Hindu terrorists became enraged over a booklet entitled "Haquikatt" and accused Hopegivers of printing and distributing the prohibited literature. Meanwhile, the Hindu extremists, who have burned Hopegivers schools and orphanages and incited violence against Christian workers, appear to have the help of the police.

Bill Bray, director of communication for Hopegivers, says although the ministry had nothing whatsoever to do with the writing or publishing of the banned book, local government and law enforcement authorities are doing nothing to stop the violence. "They seem to be aiding and abetting the terrorists," he says.

"The state authorities in Rajasthan are a Hindu political party," Bray explains. Rather than preventing or containing the violence, he says, the police "seem to be behind it and promoting [it], looking the other way and allowing the local authorities to neglect the safety of the children."

The violence is increasing, the Hopegivers International spokesman continues, with the heaviest attacks targeting the ministry's headquarters in Kota. "The police have surrounded the facility," he says, "and as a result the local police force and administration have been politicized by these militant activists, and they've suspended the licenses to operate our schools and hospital."

Hopegivers believes what is happening to the ministry's facilities in India is all part of a "well-orchestrated campaign of terror" that has been launched against the Christian group's outreaches, affecting every church, clinic, hospital, orphanage and school in Rajasthan. The all-out assault includes false arrests of key leaders, planned newspaper propaganda, organized demonstrations and riots, threats of violence, and intimidation.

'We Cannot Abandon the Work or Our People'
Several of the ministry's workers have been arrested and held without bond, Bray adds. Also, he notes, Hindu terrorists have called for the beheading of Hopegivers' president, Dr. Samuel Thomas. Both he and his father, Hopegivers founder Dr. M.A. Thomas, have been forced to remain out of sight, even as they urge Christian workers and supporters in India to "stand firm and resist."

An emergency appeal dictated by Dr. Samuel Thomas notes that, under the current circumstances, escape by air, train, or bus is "impossible and unthinkable" to the ministry leaders. "We cannot abandon the work or our people," the ministry president says.

"Never in our 46-year history has such extreme persecution been so well organized and carefully directed at our ministries on a statewide basis," Thomas contends. "Yet," he adds, "we are not discouraged! We are not disheartened! We live today because He lives! We are trusting in the Lord for our protection!"

Despite the terror campaign being waged against them, Bray says Hopegivers International's personnel are moving forward in faith, and the work continues at the Christian organization's schools, orphanages, and other outreaches. Nevertheless, the ministry's leaders say it is operating in "severe crisis mode," and they are calling for prayer and financial aid.

Hopegivers International's U.S. office in Columbus, Georgia, has been asked to set up two emergency relief funds for soliciting contributions to help meet the ministry's two greatest needs. One is a "Legal Defense Emergency Fund," the proceeds of which will be used for bail money to get ministry personnel released from jail and to pay for legal representation and other legal expenses. The other fund is an "Orphan and School Children Fund," necessitated by the official seizure of the Christian ministry's accounts in Rajasthan.

Without operating funds, Hopegivers' schools, orphanages and hospitals will quickly run out of food, clean clothing and basic supplies for the children. The Orphan and School Children Fund is needed to supply emergency funds for the ministry's outreach facilities while the Hindu terrorists' campaign of targeted persecution and intimidation continues.

Government says it will help Christian mission in Rajasthan 

New Delhi: The central government Monday indicated it would take steps to revive the bank accounts of a Christian mission that were frozen by the Rajasthan government after some groups alleged it was involved in defaming Hindu gods and goddesses.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil gave this assurance to a group of Left party MPs who met him in parliament to discuss the issue.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Rajasthan had frozen the bank accounts of the Emmanuel mission in Kota after Hindu groups led a "systematic campaign" against Christian missionaries there.

"The home minister assured us that the centre would take measures to ensure that the bank accounts were activated and to restore the LPG (cooking gas) connection to the orphanage in Kota which was disconnected after local agents were threatened," said Communist Party of India-Marxist MP K.S. Manoj. 

Manoj was part of a five-member delegation that visited Kota Saturday to study the situation there.

Earlier in the day, CPI-M's Suresh Kurup raised the issue during zero hour in Lok Sabha and accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) of "leading a nefarious campaign against the Emmanuel mission".

Kurup said the Rajasthan government had frozen the mission's bank accounts and local RSS and VHP activists had threatened cooking gas agents not to provide LPG cylinders to the orphanage run by the mission. This had left around 2,800 inmates at the orphanage in trouble, he pointed out.

"The issue is serious and the home ministry should intervene against this inhuman activity," Kurup said.

The issue created pandemonium in the house and led to an abrupt adjournment by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in the pre-lunch session following a protest by BJP members.

The BJP MPs protested and tried to disrupt Kurup. MPs from Kerala came out of their seats, insisting that Kurup should be allowed to complete his submission.

As the BJP MPs refused to take their seats, Chatterjee adjourned the house 10 minutes ahead of schedule.

Apart from Kurup and Manoj, Lonappan Nambadan, T.K. Hamsa (all from Kerala) and A.V. Bellarmin (from Tamil Nadu) were in the team that visited Kota.

The MPs pointed out that Hindu groups had been campaigning against the Emmanuel mission after one of its bookstalls started selling a controversial book that allegedly contained inflammatory remarks against Hindu gods. 

"Let them take legal action against the author. Why do they want to punish others for it?" Kurup asked, referring to the orphanage.

"It's been a long time since then, hasn't it?" said Cairns of the Indian tour.

"I had long hair then.

"To be honest, India and I didn't get along at first. But on the subsequent tours I learnt that if you are patient in India you begin to enjoy the country. There is one thing I have noticed about India: whatever walk of life people belong to, they are content and happy."

Taking a cue from Steve Waugh, Cairns started his own charity programme in India that will support the poor and underprivileged kids.

"I've been looking forward to do something like this for a long time but didn't have the time.

"Though I haven't spoken a lot with him about this, what Steve Waugh was doing here struck [India] a chord. Even I wanted to get involved in such activities, especially for the kids."

The Kiwi player, having announced his retirement from international cricket in January this year, is now looking at life beyond the game.

The Cairns Foundation has tied up with local NGO Pratham, ranked India's largest Child Education Network, which sponsors the education of 1,50,000 children.

Cairns, who has two kids of his own, wants to bring more children under the net and "make sure no one is left out".

"I visited a school sponsored by Pratham this morning. My kids go to pre-school back home, and the classroom here was smaller than the bathrooms in the Kiwi schools. There is a huge difference in the kind of facilities that we have.

"Hopefully, we will be able to make some difference. Today is just the beginning."

The foundation is looking to attract more star power, by getting some cricketers and Bollywood actors involved in its activities.

Asked whether he had asked any of the English or Indian players to help the foundation, he said it was a bad time.

"All the Indian players will be crying and the English players will be too drunk," he quipped, obviously referring to England's crushing 212 runs victory over India at the Wankhede stadium earlier in the day.

Although the Anti Conversion Law was repealed in Tamil Nadu two years back, the controversial act is becoming a major election issue in the state.

The minorities claim that the law has not yet been totally repealed and that they could still be targeted.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had repealed the law through an ordinance in May 2004 after the AIADMK suffered a major defeat in the Lok Sabha polls.

Minorities say repealing the controversial law through the state assembly only would bring them a permanent reprieve.

"It has not been totally withdrawn by the government. It is still in operation and any time they can make use of this against minorities with regard to conversion," said Rev Fr Peter Fernando, Federation of Minorities.

DMK gains

The Federation of Minorities, which has a voter population of over 60 lakhs in Tamil Nadu, has decided to support the DMK led coalition in the elections.

They hope that their demand for reservation for minorities and concession for dalit converts would be pushed by this alliance.

Jayalalithaa's ordinance to repeal the anti conversion law seems to be backfiring as winning over the minorities may be a huge challenge.

On the other hand, it would be a windfall for the Opposition waiting for an emotional issue in the absence of perceptible anti incumbency wave.

Slogans were raised against each other from both the sides which led to tension in the area. On receiving information Mr D.K. Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner, and Mr Mander Singh, SP (H), along with a heavy police force reached the spot and controlled the situation.

Earlier, leaders of Hindu organisations had submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner regarding the alleged evangelizing by the Christian Missionaries in Rishi Nagar.

It is a small piece about how some people tried to kill Sivakasi Crackers industry and about the attempts of S. Gurumurthy to save it.

The country burst into joyous crackle of sounds and lights. The younger folks were wading into the fire crackers. The elders sat and watched in content amusement.

The district which produced these crackers exported them throughout the world.

There had been a conspiracy to gradually snuff out this booming business. These simple people were not prepared for the cut-throat tactics of the candle lobby. The candlewallahs joined hands with Christian Missionaries who wanted to take the sparkle out of this colourful Hindu festival. What resulted was Jesuitry. Devious arguments ostensibly for the good of the people â terms like noise pollution, child labor and so on, were bandied about.

Hindus were known for their mildness. âMild Hinduâ was a common name called. Their manufacturers who did business with honesty as their capital more than their money, couldnât hit back. Hindus are known for trusting their enemies more perhaps than their brethren. The cracker merchants were just following the practice the entire county did. They used to engage the so-called child labourers. When the country was down with internal strife and the subsequent foreign exploitation, their youngsters had no option but to start making money at as early an age as possible. But as times changed this district changed too. The cracker companies built schools and other facilities for the children. But the enemy attacks continued.

Then a journalist came, good people joined forces and just by sheer force of goodness the country was back to a burst of joyous sounds and lights.

Children of the district for whom hungry crocodiles shed tears, escaped the crocodilesâ jaws and smiled happily.

Truth alone triumphs; not untruth.

Group expects 500,000 people to attend event in Orissa. 

MUMBAI, India, March 24 (Compass) â Hindu group planning centenary celebrations in April hopes to âreconvertâ as many as 10,000 tribal Christians to Hinduism during the event.

The Dharma Jogna will take place in Orissa on April 8-10, in honor of Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, dubbed the âsecond great leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).â

Given the recent trend of mass âreconversionâ ceremonies organized by the RSS and its sister organization, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP or World Hindu Council), Christian leaders fear many tribal people may be persuaded to reconvert against their will.

The term âreconversionâ ignores the fact that most tribal converts were traditionally animist and never considered themselves Hindus.

âWe are extremely worried,â said the Rev. Dandia Basi Hrudaya, secretary of the Orissa chapter of the All India Christian Council (AICC). âThe AICC and other Christian leaders are meeting this week to finalize plans to protect the tribals during this event.â 

Hrudaya said the RSS was avoiding publicity for this event, having learned from the failure of the Shabri Kumbh reawakening event held in Dangs district, Gujarat on February 11-13. When advocacy groups warned of potential religious riots in Dangs, the government sent in police and paramilitary troops to protect the tribal residents.

âThe RSS website doesnât say much about the celebrations, but their official publication, the Organiser, has a few articles,â said Hrudaya. âThey donât want too much media attention this time â otherwise the reconversion plans may come to nothing, as they did in the Shabri Kumbh.â

The Rev. Pran Parichha, president of the Orissa Chapter of the AICC, told Compass he had a copy of a leaflet distributed by the RSS, inviting people to a great Hindu conference that would âdrive awayâ an environment hostile to Hinduism. 

âI have written to the district magistrate... [asking him] to take precautionary measures to protect the lives of tribal Christians, as the Hindu fundamentalists will pressure them to convert to Hinduism,â said Parichha. âThere are many churches and Christian institutions in that district which could be vandalized. From prior experience of such conventions, we know that anti-Christian passions can run high, and this could lead to loss of life and property.â 

Dr. John Dayal, president of the All India Catholic Union, will also protest against the event. He plans to file an official complaint with the director general of police in Orissa, asking him to âinvoke the Orissa Freedom of Religion Act (OFRA) against those announcing mass reconversions.â 

Under the OFRA, people can be arrested for causing tension between religious communities. An evangelist in Rajasthan was recently arrested under this law. âWe demand to know whether there are two separate laws â one for Christians, and one for Hindus,â Dayal said.

Call for Hindu Nationalism The April event will be held in the tribal village of Chakapada, in Phulbani district, Orissa, with the RSS estimating at least 500,000 people will attend the opening ceremony.

Plans for the event should be examined in the light of inflammatory speeches made at the Shabri Kumbh in February, said Jesuit priest and human rights activist Father Cedric Prakash. âThe RSS and the VHP are well-oiled think-tanks, and they have a sophisticated, well-organized machinery reaching right down to the village level,â he said.

He also pointed to topics slated for discussion during the three-day event, including the alleged âmenace of conversionâ and the need for a revival of Hindu nationalism.

The event is the third of its kind this year. The VHP held a Dharam Sansad, or Hindu leadership summit on February 1-2 at Allahabad. VHP international secretary Pravin Togadia later said a core issue discussed at the summit was the development of a nationwide âHindu vote bank.â

The Dharam Sansad and the Shabri Kumbh both stressed the revival of Hindutva, or Hindu nationalism. The Shabri Kumbh was advertised as an event that would âresist and revert conversions to Christianity engineered by missionaries.â

Anti-Christian Sentiments Another Hindu âreawakeningâ event held on a smaller scale in Dangs, Gujarat in December 1998 led to religious rioting and the destruction of several churches. Just a few weeks later, in January 1999, a mob shouted Hindu slogans as they set fire to a vehicle in Keonjhar district, Orissa, where Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons, Philip and Timothy, lay sleeping. All three burned to death.

The state passed the OFRA in 1967 to prevent forced or manipulative conversions. The law, open to problematic interpretations, was overturned in 1973 and adopted again in 1977. In 1999, the state enacted an order enforcing the OFRA, which requires prior permission from local police and district magistrates before a conversion takes place.

The state government is presently a coalition between the pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Sources say the BJP hopes to achieve a single party government after the next election.

Any Hindu gathering is a problem for Hindus and Muslims.
They can convert but Hindus can't.
Tribal were never Christians so someone had converted them, if they want to revert back why missionaries are crying? Loss of sheeps are causinh headaches to them.
