Also India has another head-ache now Maoists. I'am worried whether Maoists might form an alliance with Taliban to destroy India.

Please see this picture closely because, for the life of me, I canât get over Bilawal Bhutto accompanying his father to a high-level meeting with Barack Obama and Hamid Karzai. (Can you ever imagine Obama bringing one of his daughters to a meeting like this or, for that matter, Bush one of his)??? I know there are more important crises in Pakistan right now (the refugees, the economy, the Taliban), but I canât let this go, even though I probably should.

PESHAWAR: While heading a group safeguarding Mingoraâs electricity grid station, non-commissioned officer Subedar Fazal Hameed was engaged on two fronts, psychological and physical warfare.

âThey (Taliban) were conducting psychological warfare â making announcements and threatening us,â the Frontier Corps (FC) subedar told Daily Times in an interview after the military honoured him for his bravery.

Peshawar Corps Commander Lt General Masood Aslam announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for Subedar Hameed for defending the grid station against the Taliban for 20 days.

Threats: âWe have mined the grid stationâs surroundings and the whole area will be reduced to ashes in the next two hours if you (Hameed) do not order your men to surrender,â a Taliban had announced during the fight for the grid station, Hameed said, adding that the Taliban knew well how to scare their opponents with such threats. Given the command of 42 FC soldiers, Subedar Hameed was deployed at the grid station on January 24. He said the situation began deteriorating on May 3 when the Taliban besieged the facility, cutting of all contact with the military and civil authorities. âThe Taliban pressurised us both psychologically and militarily. A military officer told me not to heed the Talibanâs threats and give them a good fight. Those words boosted my morale and that of my jawans as well,â Hameed said. The subedar said the Taliban grew more vengeful when he offered shelter to policemen from the nearby Rahimabad police station at the grid station. âWe demand you hand over the cops,â Hameed recalled the Taliban warnings. âWe will cut you in pieces if you continue to defy the Taliban.â The prolonged Taliban siege had also strained the food and ammunition supplies of Hameedâs platoon. âWe had to ration out food carefully since more supplies were not coming in. At one time, we even ran out of drinking water,â the soldier said. His fears were finally allayed when the military fought off the Taliban and retook control of the facility on May 24.

I would add - may be 100 Million times if not more - and agree to your "want" whole heartedly.

However, this is only a momentary reaction.

Let us now think rationally.

To Break or Destabilize Pakistan is fine but have you and most of our esteemed members ever thought of the Consequences-repercussions?

I give it to you that similar to the Breaking away of East Pakistan - when India was lumbered with 12 Million Refugees possibly 90-95 Per Cent Hindus - and the further "Streaming in" into India of 40-50 Million Bangladeshi Muslim Illegal Immigrants India will have a Monumental Human Refugees Disaster fleeing from a Broken Up or Destabilized Pakistan.

With Pakistan's Two Wings India had One Snake to cope with - India had the power to stop Pakistani Over-flights thereby keeping the whole "Pakistani State" in a "State of Woe" - and the East Bengalis being Pakistanis could not "Stream" into India. Now we have Two Snakes i.e. One at each End.

Now the state of affairs is that should Pakistan be Broken Up or Destabilized, India will have at least 50 Million Pakistani Muslims "Invade" India in the garb of being Refugees.

In this respect I would refer you to :

1. Altaf Hussein's "The Diviyun of India was the Gureatest, Gureatest Bulunder" wherein he asked the Government of India along with the Indian Opposition to Forgive the Mohajirs for Migrating to Pakistan and allow them to return to India.

2. All the Ahmedis - Qaadianis will come to India due to Religious Proscution as they are considered "Non-Muslims"

3. Pakistani Punjabi Muslims : Due to their "long broken connection" with East Punjab - Now Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Indian Punjab as well as the Rest of India.

4. The Pushtoons as they wanted to join India rather than Pakistan.

5. Same is the case with Balochis.

Just think of our Liberals, Leftist, WKK and naturally the Indian Muslims who are - no matter who "distantly related" - and of course not the least our Kaangress Kaamunist Kriminal Klan begging the remaining Pakistanis to come into their "Indian Brethrens' Hearts".

I would also refer you to the case of the Pakistani Destabilization of Afghanistan. About One Third of the Afghan Population "Streamed" out of the Country to take refuge in Iran, the CAR neighbours and of course the majority in Pakistan.

Today Pakistan is suffering from its Policy of Destabilizing Afghanistan in the Seventies and Eighties of the last Century.

The Most Important Action that India Must Take : Make our Borders, secure, impregnable and sufficiently Manned by the Security Forces to ensure that there is no Infiltration from Pakistan - Destabilized or Not.

Then India can follow the Path which is near and dear to our Hearts - both you and me.

Poverty may have risen in Pakistan, says ADB

ISLAMABAD : Poverty in Pakistan is estimated to have risen in fiscal year 2008-09 with high domestic inflation caused by soaring food and energy prices, says the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

In a report titled âSummary poverty reduction and social strategyâ discussing Punjabâs efficiency improvement programme, the ADB states the Punjab Multiple Indicators Cluster Survey (MICS) indicates that the impact of food price increases on poverty level is substantially greater than the impact of energy price rises.

The report is quite significant in the context of a recent acknowledgement by the World Bank that poverty had declined by 5.1 per cent to 17.2 per cent in Pakistan in 2007-08. However, the WB is also of the view that poverty may have increased in 2008-09 owing to higher inflation as well as low growth.

The ADB states âoverall a 20 per cent increase in food prices will lead to an 8pc increase in the poverty head count, from 36pc to 44pc, with the negative impact of food price shocks falling disproportionately on rural poor, as opposed to the urban poor.â
It says Punjab experienced strong annual growth of 7-8pc between 2002-03 and 2007-08, leading to a significant reduction in poverty. Federal poverty estimates, based on the 2005-06 Pakistan Socio-economic Living Standard Measurement Survey, indicated a 12.2pc decrease in people living below the poverty line from 34.5pc in 2000-01 to 22.3pc in 2005-06. While the magnitude of the decline is disputed, the trend is widely accepted.

The report says the key issue is whether the trend can be sustained and the pace of poverty reduction is fast enough. Even with a poverty level of 22.3pc, roughly 35 million people still live below the poverty line. This is higher than the number of poor in 1996-97. Furthermore, rural poverty is substantially larger than urban areas.

The governmentâs efficiency programme echoes the thrust of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper-II (PRSP-II), focusing on the delivery of public services in an efficient and effective manner.

Although the programme is categorised as a general intervention, it has a pro-poor focus with increased expenditure on social safety nets. In the face of recent dramatic food shocks, the government has decided to provide food security for poor households through the Punjab food support scheme, Sasti Roti scheme, free medicine initiative, support for deserving students and green tractor scheme.

The Punjab food support scheme, estimated to cost Rs10.8 billion, provides Rs1,000 per month for 1.8 million poor families. Under the Sasti Roti scheme, bread is provided for the poor at Rs2. The Finance Department has indicated that Rs6.1 billion will be spent under the scheme in fiscal year 2008-09.

The free medicine initiative is expected to cost Rs1.8 billion this fiscal year. The support for deserving students is likely to cost Rs3 billion and the green tractor scheme Rs2 billion.

The challenge of poverty alleviation remains huge. Pakistan, being a signatory to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), is committed to achieving the MDG target for poverty by halving it between 1990 and 2015. The estimated level of poverty in 1990 was 26 per cent which needs to be cut to 13pc by 2015 if the target is to be met.

Based on the 2007 Punjab Economic Survey, 20pc of the provincial population is poor, with a higher concentration of poor in rural areas at 44pc. This means roughly 18 million people in the province are living below the poverty line and vulnerability is high.

Social indicators are poor in Punjab and malnutrition is high, with one-third of children under five years being underweight, posing a serious health problem. Infant mortality and maternal mortality rates are double than MDG targets.

Literacy rate for children of 10 years is 56pc in Punjab and dropout rate is 30pc. Only half the population is served piped water and has a covered sewerage system. Lack of human development is a hindrance to social and economic progress. Furthermore, the province faces a large infrastructure deficit which hampers economic growth. Lack of productive employment opportunities is another serious problem.

I have a feeling that this time USA will ensure that less of the amount gets siphoned off to other destinations. The new US Administration must have realised that without accelerated economic development, it will perhaps be difficult to curtail the support to the Taliban.

ravish Ji : The Final Paragraph "Sleepâ Deathâs brother, as poets deem..." does seem to point out to the Indian Government's failure to take cognizance of the Pakistani Government's Full Involvement with All the Terrorist Attacks in India and going about trying to accommodate Pakistan not only in Kashmir but in every part of India.

I pray that I be proved wrong but sadly I fear that I am not that fortunate!

Will use Pakistan's nukes if we can, says al-Qaeda

Pakistan has been battling al-Qaeda's Taliban allies in the Swat Valley since April after their thrust into a district 100 km northwest of the capital raised fears the nuclear-armed country could slowly slip into militant hands.

"God willing, the nuclear weapons will not fall into the hands of the Americans and the mujahideen would take them and use them against the Americans," the leader of al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, said in an interview with al-Jazeera television on Sunday.

Abu al-Yazid was responding to a question about US safeguards to seize control over Pakistan's nuclear weapons in case Islamist fighters came close to doing so.

"We expect that the Pakistani army would be defeated (in Swat) ... and that would be its end everywhere, God willing," he added.

Asked about the group's plans, the Egyptian militant leader said: "The strategy of the (al-Qaeda) organisation in the coming period is the same as in the previous period: to hit the head of the snake, the head of tyranny - the United States."

"That can be achieved through continued work on the open fronts and also by opening new fronts in a manner that achieves the interests of Islam and Muslims and by increasing military operations that drain the enemy financially," he said.

The militant leader suggested that naming a new leader for the group's unit in the Arabian Peninsula, Abu Basir al-Wahayshi, could revive its campaign in Saudi Arabia, the world's top oil exporter.

"Our goals have been the Americans and the oil targets which they are stealing to gain power to strike the mujahideen and Muslims. There was a setback in work there for reasons that there is no room to state now, but as of late, efforts have been united and there is unity around a single leader," he stated.

Abu al-Yazid, also known as Abu Saeed al-Masri, said al-Qaeda will continue "with large scale operations against the enemy" - by which he meant the United States.

"We have demanded and we demand that all branches of al-Qaeda carry out such operations," he said, referring to attacks against US-led forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The militant leader said al-Qaeda would be willing to accept a truce of about 10 years' duration with the United States if Washington agreed to withdraw its troops from Muslim countries and stopped backing Israel and the pro-Western governments of Muslim nations.

Asked about the whereabouts of al-Qaeda's top leaders, he said: "Praise God, sheikh Osama (bin Laden) and sheikh Ayman al-Zawahri are safe from the reach of the enemies, but we would not say where they are; moreover, we do not know where they are, but we're in continuous contact with them."

It is true that the Pakistanis will be the First to send their Nukes to India.

However, thank God that despite the âHuggy-Huggy Kissy-Kissy Juphian & Puppianâ Indian Leaders as well as the Majority of the Policy Makers â both Domestic & Foreign â India though having eschewed âFirst Useâ of Nuclear Weapons still maintains the Equipment and Capability of giving a befitting reply.

Next terror attack from air?

QUOTEThe next terror attack might be executed from the air, according to intelligence available with the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Possible targets for Pakistan-based terror groups â including the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba â include key defence establishments, including Indiaâs lone aircraft carrier, and high-profile individuals.

The Lashkar had in November 2008 used the sea route to strike multiple locations in Mumbai, leaving more than 180 dead.

Among the terror intercepts recently made by the Intelligence Bureau, the one thatâs got the counter-terrorism officialsâ attention indicated that âkey Lashkar leaders, including its communications chief Zarar Shah, had been studying helicopter charter services of India, especially south Indiaâ.

The intercept suggested, said a ministry official who is not authorized to talk, âthe LeTâs commanders were mulling using a chartered flight, among other available options, to launch sensational attacks on important attacks.

Shah is currently in the custody of Pakistani authorities for his alleged role in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. He had organized the use of Voice Over Internet Telephony services that the Lashkar had used to communicate with its 10-man attack team, according to the Mumbai Crime Branchâs chargesheet.Â

The intercept, said the officer, indicated a hired/abducted charter flight could be used to target airports and VVIPS.

The specific alert resulted in the ministry alerting around 100 operators of air charter services in the country to âlook for individuals with suspicious business requests and flight plans,â the officer said.

A senior official of a Delhi-based charter service provider, who requested anonymity, told HT: âWe have been apprised of suspicious passengers and told to intimate the authorities immediately if and when we come across such a case.â

IB sources said it also had intelligence regarding Lashkar plans to launch âsuicide attacks by its well-trained operatives on naval targets including Indiaâs lone aircraft carrier, the INS Viraat, the Vizag naval dockyard and the Cochin Shipyard.â

âAdequate preparations have been made by concerned authorities to neutralize such an attack,â he said.

Pakistanis have brilliant ideas in attacking India. With this attack India would donate Kashmir to Pakistan.

Pipe dream, these "Pidi" sena will try to protect Muslims in Azamgarh or Muzzarpur. Indians are still living suffering from Stockholm syndrome. No hope. Did you missed how they reacted during and after Mumbai attack, even animals fight back when they are attacked, but "Gidhars" just howl and they are howling and howling but fools call it diplomacy.

I remember one drill sergeant told one of my class mate who was practicing so much, every one were expecting he will break zone record but he came last. His remark was "Hathi padey ga, padey ga, Pada fuss".
Same is for expectations from Indian Government. Any first attack on Aurangjeb road, Delhi, it will clean whole Babu and political junk. May be after that Rose or Lotus may bloom somewhere. Till then its pipe dream.

Now a days I am reading Neville Maxwell's India's China War (again). Second time it is hiliarous to read about stupidity of Nehru, Gen Thappar and Krishan Menon.
