Questions Related To India-forum Website
#1
Hi all,

This Friday we'll be one month old. :thumbsup

India Forum went live on Aug 12th - 3 days ahead of the planned launch date of Aug 15th.

Last weekend we signed up our 50th member - all word of mouth referral. We have had a very low key approach to promoting this site - there's a lot of rif-raff out there in cyberspace which we don't want to attract.

Quality rather than quantity has been our goal. If you know of good postors out

there, please do invite them here.

Remember, a site/forum is only as good as the quality of posts/postors on that forum.

Please use this thread to posts any suggestions/comments etc on how to improve this site and quality of posts.

Being an Indian Forum our main principle should further the psy war for India and seek to educate Indians. Unfortunetly a lot of Indian history or politics are brushed under the table for fear of arousing sentiments especailly when it comes to reading on ancient Indic civilisation and its influence, as well as Hinduism.

Our Culture and religion defines who we are and exposing many of the myths and finding the truth to what happened in our past can only make us a more confident and assertive nation ready to protect the lives and interests of all Indians alike. Issues like Ayodhya and its history should be discussed and debated and not buried in the sands like the Mandir.

Recently ive read a couple of articles relating to the Hindu Kush and the slaughter of Hindus that took place there. Why isn't this more common knowledge? Why should we constantly fear what the truth might reveal. Why isn't there more discussion on the wonders and tolerance of Hinduism in ancient India. From Afghanistan to Central Asia, Indonesia and beyond the Indic Civilisation and ethos spread only to be forgotten in our own school textbooks! We're lucky this forum has two scholars in Kaushal and Hauma and im sure in time it'll have many threads discussing the above.

Lets do what is right for Indians as a whole! and stop worrying about what others might think and if we might 'sideline' our minorties!

Satyameva Jayete!

Saying that perhaps the history thread can include separate threads to discuss instead of collating all into one. Makes it easier to save and archive important threads as well.

Some threads :

ie Indic influence/Hinduism Central Asia

Indic influence/Hinduism South east Asia Angkor Wat

Sindhu civilisation, Indian culture under threat in Pakistan Mohenjendaro/Harrapa

Ayodhya Next step.

Should Indians/India seek to work to protect Hindus worldwide?

I myself paln to do some reading and start the thread on Angkor wat over the weekend.

A lot of us have been at BR, and so we may be forward in the game...but the message shouldn't be for us and must get out to as many people as we can. Outright banning of members who seek to disrupt should be implemented...talking about some paki/Chinese folk...to do this i think the forum should advertise on google. Let the word spread!

Jai Hind!

Krishna: I think the goal of the site/forum should be set and achieved by the members of this forum.

To steal a line from Linclon <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> , it's a forum for the members, by the members - I personally wouldn't like it any other way.

Intent of this thread was to get some ideas from everyone on board.

I believe we can increase post count per page. Please check into this.

Viren & Forumites, A few comments:

1. Use this site as a tool to promote Indian interests. Political & Cultural mainly. (with a good dose of discussion on Kirket & TSP bashing fil-lums <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> )

2. Counter any and all anti-India propaganda (I think BRites are doing a damn good job at this). However, we should approach it on a different frequency over here. Also, an effeort should be made to make sure that this forum doesn't become a replica of BR.

3. Promote each and every positive news, events about India.

4. Ban anyone who get's even close to promoting negative psy-ops, or harm promotion of positivity, about India. This would include anyone and everyone but not limited to non-Indians.

Rytha I understand that and support it, but can you give a more eleborate reason.

The point I am trying to make is following-

We have lost heavely in the past by being divided, I guess I need not go into history to bring home this point. Present time, BR has been a very good effort, a good source of collating and exchanging views. Let's not diffuse it.

Now your point is well taken about BR doesn't allow telling truths if it is politically incorrect and a forum is needed for that. But then make this forum focus on that. Let's not go into stratagey, defense, economics (untill they cannot be discussed at BR because of the reason mentioned in line 1 of this paragraph). All I am saying is that let's concentrate on what should be discussed better here (i.e. develop a core competency).

I used to think that the way some BR admin/people are behaving, BR would see it's decline. I have tried hard to fight it and wont let few morons spoil the fun. Let's not have two places of discussion on the same topic and neither be as good as one could have been. By all means discuss history, culture, communalism etc. but then restrict yourself to few things. For rest go to BR forum.

My 2 cents.

Lot of restriction in BR. One can't talk about Hindu culture, No politics, One can bash BJP and RSS but hey one should not say anything to Sonia Mano.

BR Admin/owner want to pursue his own agenda.

Well our objectuve is to fight India's enemy.

Well freedom to discuss touchy subject was required.

We are sane people, not biased towards one community or political party.

I Think this should go to the 'Forum Notes' thread: http://india-forum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=35

But any way my 2 cents.

Fanne has a very valid point there. Discussing the same thing, here, as BR would be just a waste of Time & energy. Lets just concentrate on a few topics, leaving the political correctness out of here. Things might get out of hand once in a while and there might be some :argue but we gotta deal with it.

Actually Krishna and Fanne, IMO, BR used to be very good at quite a few things ie multiple areas of core competancy. They got so by quite an accident. Originally, BR was created to cater solely to the people interested in the Indian military.

Over time, eventhough, these guys love the military stuff, they had to create other sections only to keep their military forum pure and free of unwanted material. This happened quite a few years ago over multiple times in incremental stages.

These changes brought enormous popularity to the BR but also a lot of headaches. Therefore, the BRadmins decided to jettison some of these areas and concentrate solely on Military matters which is their original and primary mission.

IMO, people who are posting in BR's strategic and technology sections are wasting their time. I say this because the BRteam has taken a decision to concentrate on what they love the best but rest of the gang just doesn't seem to get the message. People in tech and strategic forums have been told repeatedly by the BRteam that they have no interest in supporting those forums, but people are persisting, maybe because of habit or maybe because of a lack of choices or plain ignorance.

So, its not a case of duplication of effort, but it is a case of picking up the areas in which BRadmins have repeatedly showed a distinct lack of interest. I bet if they can, the BRadmins will be more than glad to close down both the Tech and Strategic forums. They just have no interest in maintaining these forums for which they get quite a lot of grief. Just keep in mind that BR is for military and not for other subjects.

Morning Viren, <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I just wanted to put in my 2 cents about why this forum is needed by showing in a positive manner that BRadmins are only interested in Military related discussions. I see nothing wrong with their attitude.

Krishna/fanne: Let's not go into stratagey,defense, economics

We cannot restrict ourselves to what another site decides to allow or not. Besides, this site is not a subset of any one particular site. This site should be open to all Indians who want to discuss issues pertaining to India.

Suggestions:

(a) Site has to get members beyond BR. There are several good postors out there. Have seen a few good Indians in the Paki forums too <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> .

(<img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> Rearranging the forum structure might be a good idea. It's managable for now, say 3 to 6 months down the lane as the content here grows, it could be an issue.

© Build some threads in the library folders with links only - no discussion. Could be a kind of archive or databank categorized by topics.

(d) Forum has to little more focus outward in terms of being a 'doer' rather than just :argue or do bak-bak only. Ideas should be solicited, projects identified (raising fund for Yetteji or Francois G or helping other Indians in creating sites or contents), call for volunteers etc.

(e) Lastly, spread the word about this forum

My two nayapaise. <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

I think the forum is gradually gathering steam. It should have all kinds of topics as it currently does. This will serve as a better attractor. The we can let the system evolve and chose which topics are more interesting and which not. The others can go dormant or die. For example cricket will pick up much more with the matches coming. Then elections will be a big thing. Islamism and the like will always have a moderate level constant interest for some time to come. This forum should been completely independent of all other site and not bother about competing or overlapping with them. Competition is good. This will be good for fighting India's enemies, for there are many out there who don't even recognize the dangers and do not want others to do so. Also Indians are such that they will by definition have a wide range of differing opinions. There has to be room to accommodate our natural tendency.

What we need to determine are what are the bounds of the forum? In my opinion as long as Rhytha is willing to support it, there should be few restrictions, but clear compartmentalization. So if there is topic that is offending or uninteresting to someone it should be compartmentalized to a certain thread and not overflow.

Of course the way the forum is we will never attract people who are into PC.
