Suspected Islamic separatists have killed three people in Thailand's troubled south, including a Buddhist man they beheaded and set alight, police said today.

The 53-year-old was beheaded yesterday in Yala, police said, one of three Muslim-majority provinces along the Malaysian border hit by a worsening insurgency that has killed about 2,000 people in three years.

The man's head was left in the middle of the street, about one kilometre from the charred remains of his body, Police Lieutenant Mit Khunchum said.

Mit said the attack was aimed at terrifying residents in the region, where violence has escalated recently despite a raft of peace-building measures proposed by the government, which was installed after a coup in September.

Shortly after the bloody attack, a 25-year-old Buddhist man was killed in a drive-by shooting in nearby Pattani province.

The attacks followed the deadly shooting late Tuesday of a 43-year-old Buddhist rubber tapper in Narathiwat province.

An army official said he believed the militants were stepping up attacks in reprisal for a raid on a training base last week that killed at least five separatist rebels.

SYDNEY - A Sydney court has been told nine terror suspects possessed the ingredients and instructions to construct explosive devices capable of killing and causing massive damage.

The committal hearing for the nine Sydney men heard yesterday that they had all conspired to prepare for an act of terrorism.
(Actually, they conspired to prepare for an act of islam.)

In her opening address, prosecutor Wendy Abraham, QC, told Penrith Local Court the men were Islamic extremists determined to carry out violent "jihad" to protect Islam.

"They believed Islam was under attack," Abraham told the court. "Violence was the primary tool of their jihad."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>Foreigners feared kidnapped in Ethiopia</b>
ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - Two groups of tourists, including at least seven French nationals and five Britons, are believed to have been kidnapped in a remote and inhospitable area of Ethiopia where separatist rebels operate.
"A kidnapping or kidnappings did take place," French Ambassador Stephane Gompertz told Reuters.

"It seems that the incident or incidents happened two days ago in the evening. At the moment, we don't know which group may be involved or why they have done this," Gompertz added.

Britain said its citizens were among the missing.

"Unfortunately I can confirm that five of those are members of staff, or relatives of members of staff, at our Embassy in Addis Ababa," said British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett in a statement released in London.

Ethiopian police said five Europeans and 13 Ethiopians had been kidnapped by unknown armed people in the north-east Afar region, considered one of the world's most hostile terrains.

"The 13 Ethiopians kidnapped together with the foreigners, were people of the Afar region and have been working as drivers and translators," the Ethiopian police told state television.

Afar is one of Ethiopia's poorest regions, populated mostly by roaming herders who scrape a living with sheep and goats.

It was also the site of a low-level rebellion against the government in the 1990s by separatists calling for an Afar state on territory straddling Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti.

Tour companies said the groups disappeared earlier in the week.

Initial reports said one group of missing included 10 French tourists. But later tour operators said seven French were missing. The status of the kidnapped tourists was also unclear amid conflicting reports that French tourists had been found.

<b>"AT MOMENT THEY ARE MISSING"</b>

"There are still seven of our clients unaccounted for. We have still not given up hope that they will turn up. But at the moment they are missing," said Samson Teshome, a manager of tour company Origins Ethiopia.

The second missing group of five people, thought to be touring the Danakil Depression, included the Britons. Expatriates also said originally the second group included a French national and an Italian but that was not clear.

One of the lowest and hottest places on earth, and a magnet to adventurous travelers, the Danakil Depression is known for volcanoes, ancient salt mines and unworldly, flat landscapes.

"Tourists have been kidnapped in the area before, but the last time was before the Ethiopian-Eritrean war," said one foreigner tracking the case, referring to a 1998-2000 border war between the Horn of Africa neighbors.

French envoy Gompertz said his mission was trying to send representatives to the largest nearby town of Mekele later on Friday or Saturday. "We are hoping to see the hostages alive and well as soon as possible," he said.

Britain's Foreign Office has a warning out on the Afar region, advising against all travel within 20 kms of the Eritrean border in the Tigray and Afar regions at any time, "which remain predominantly military zones."

The Afar area is the location of some of the earliest human remains, such as the famous 3 million year old fossilized specimen "Lucy," discovered there in 1974.

<b>Sheik Alhilali wants own political party</b>
The outspoken Muslim cleric who threatened to run candidates against the Labor Party at the NSW state election is considering setting up his own political party.

Sheik Taj Aldin Alhilali failed to deliver on his threat to persuade independent Islamic candidates to nominate against western Sydney Labor MPs at the March 24 state election.

He now says he has established a political committee of Muslim community elders and forming a party is the next step.

"There's a new committee with people who have some experience in politics and most certainly in the future there must be something along those lines," Sheik Alhilali told ABC Radio through an interpreter.

The sheik is well known for sparking controversy, attracting criticism earlier this year for claiming Australian Muslims are more entitled to the country than those with a convict heritage, and last year comparing scantily clad women to uncovered meat.

The sheik's friend and spokesman Keysar Trad said the new Islamic political party would be an organisation founded on universal human values and open to all faiths. <!--emo&:roll--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ROTFL.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='ROTFL.gif' /><!--endemo-->

"It's not going to be a party of Muslims only and it's not going to be called the Muslim Party," Mr Trad said.

"The whole idea is to promote fairness across the board and specific values, such as honesty and dignity and equality.

"I think it's a good idea to establish a party that can act as an alternative for people who are no longer satisfied with the major parties."

NSW Premier Morris Iemma said if Sheik Alhilali founded a political party it would fail to win the support of the Islamic community or other Australians.

"If he does do that he'll find that it won't receive support from the community, let alone the broader community, because they reject everything that he stands for," Mr Iemma told reporters.

"(They will reject) what he says, what he stands for and the values that he holds."

Mr Iemma said he doubted the establishment of the party would proceed.

"I think it's another day, another statement from the sheik that rings hollow," Mr Iemma he said.

On Sunday, NSW Christian Democrats leader Fred Nile, who is seeking reelection to the upper house at the March 24 poll, called for a 10 year moratorium on Islamic immigration to Australia, saying preference should be given to Christians discriminated against in some Muslim countries.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->About stuff in blue: So Christian democrats in Australia can ask for an end to <i>legal islamic immigration</i> into Australia for the next ten years, and in place want to take in oppressed christians from islamic countries - all this without Indian pseculars, christos and islamics screaming themselves hoarse about it.

But when India wants a ban on <i>illegal islamic infiltration</i> from Bangladesh (and W Pakistan), but okays Hindu refugees from there - all the Indian pseculars and christoislamics are ready to scream this is 'unsecular, Hindutva and communalist'.

I was trying to find the history of Islam in India and the closest thing I could find is the following wiki link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_India

At first glance the one thing that jumps at me is the fact that Northern Indian contact with Islam was "perhaps" more via the swords of Ghauri and bin Qasim types whereas it was the Coastal (including gujarat/bengal) and Southern Indian contact was with the Arab traders and these were the ones that went on to Islamize Indonesia/Malaysia etc etc. This explains why there is such a dichotomy of popular perception of the effects of Islam on India. Most northern kingdoms were subjected to raids from Afghanistan and Persia whereas the Coasts actually gained substantially from their interactions with Arabic traders.

My reading of history of Islam in the world tells me that rights of minorities under Islamic rule (though probably limited to Abhramic faiths Jews/christians etc) was far better than other contemporaries such as Romans/Greeks/Kings of Western Europe. However there is little data: or perhaps I have not looked hard enough to support the main bone of contention that Islam was uniformly bad for India . If data were to be objectively analyzed then Indian interaction with Islam was on the whole a positive experience since reformation of the hindu system of caste was long overdue and Islam provided the impetus for this change.

I was for a long time harboring a delusion that the Arabic world was populated by nomadic tribes that could not have developed any kind of high technology in the absence of a city based lifestyle and quite willingly assumed that any technology they had was inspired or taken from Persia, India or China. However this is obviously a mistake since the fertile crescent in the valleys of the Nile, the Tigris Euphates, much of Syria and Lebanon is actually quite fertile and has known human civilization since perhaps as long as the Indus valley.

The problem with above post is that reform of Hinduism started much earlier and atrophied due to the shock of the Islamic invasions and European colonialism. yes there were two streams of Islamic encounter - the coastal and the North West Frontier passes. Even in the latter it was the Turco-Afghan- Persian strain that was violent. The Mughals became Indianised after Akbar. The TAP even later under Nadir Shah and Abdali showed their violent nature even till late 18th century.

BY LOLITA C. BALDOR
WASHINGTON -- Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of Sept. 11, confessed to that attack and a string of others during a military hearing at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to a transcript released Wednesday by the Pentagon.

''I was responsible for the 9/11 operation from A to Z,'' Mohammed said.

In a chilling list of attacks -- some of which were carried out, some not -- Mohammed claimed responsibility for planning, financing and training others for plots ranging from the 1993 truck bombing of the World Trade Center to the attempt by would-be shoe bomber Richard Reid to blow up a trans-Atlantic flight with explosives in his shoes, making clear al-Qaida wanted to down a second trans-Atlantic aircraft during Reid's operation.

<b>Daniel Pearl</b>
In a section of the statement that was blacked out, he confessed to the beheading of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, the Associated Press has learned. Mohammed has long been a suspect in the killing.

<b>Kenya, Bali</b>
He said he was involved in planning the 2002 bombing of a Kenya beach resort frequented by Israelis and the failed missile attack on an Israeli passenger jet after it took off from Mombasa, Kenya. He also said he was responsible for the bombing of a nightclub in Bali, Indonesia. In 2002, 202 were killed when two Bali nightclubs were bombed.

<b>Sears Tower, NYSE, Big Ben</b>
Other plots he said he was responsible for included planned attacks against the Sears Tower, the Empire State Building and New York Stock Exchange, the Panama Canal and Big Ben and Heathrow Airport in London -- none of which occurred.

<b>Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter</b>
He also said he was involved in planning assassination attempts against former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, attacks on U.S. nuclear power plants and suspension bridges in New York, the destruction of American and Israeli embassies in Asia and Australia, attacks on American naval vessels and oil tankers around the world and an attempt to destroy an oil company he said was owned by former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Indonesia.
The hearings, which began last Friday, are being conducted in secret by the military as it tries to determine whether 14 alleged terrorist leaders should be declared ''enemy combatants.''

<b>Military: Suspected 9/11 mastermind confessed</b>

I've no doubt he was involved in and committed terrorist attacks. But I'm sure he wasn't acting solo nor the sole mastermind.
Wondering whether by confessing to so many international terrorist crimes and claiming he's the mastermind, he's hoping to protect other AQ and recruited j-hadi terrorists (possibly also held under suspicion in Guantanamo Bay). Will they be let off the hook now since this guy confessed? Will people stop looking for further terrorists who were involved? Is he doing this - confessing to most major recent crimes, since he was going down for one major attack anyway - to protect the rest of the world's j-hadis from being caught out?
At least his list of plots sounds more plausible at present then if he'd added the London, Madrid, Mumbai and Varanasi bomb attacks to it.

Wow, he's a real traveller, isn't he? Hopping from Kenya, to Indonesia, Phillipines, India, Azerbaijan, Israel. Or maybe sometimes only his plans travelled to j-hadi cells around the globe, while he stayed back chatting with his man OBL.

Couldn't help laughing at one thing when watching the news though. It said that this Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has been in Guantanamo for 3 years. Now, after this confession, they showed a transcript of him being asked by (a rep for?) the US president: (paraphrasing) 'Are you certain you were not coerced into making this confession and are not doing so under duress?'
And KSM responded in affirmative.
Why even bother asking? How else is he going to respond - what with his jailers waiting to beat him up again if he makes the wrong statement? Either they think he's guilty or not. His confession would never have been voluntarily given if he hadn't been caught. And no one's kidding themselves that torture is not a common place occurrence in the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

And does this qualify as duress and coercion?

More importantly, if they're certain he did it, why not just do away with him altogether instead of trying to get him to confess by torture and by taking relatives hostage? No one except his family and fellow j-hadis will miss him if he is the guy they're after. (And torturing him didn't make him drop any additional names, instead he claimed he was their man - implied he was the only/main guy they should be after, as if the rest are only small fry.)

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Hearings set for Hambali, 9/11 plotter</b>

March 07, 2007

March 7: THE US will begin closed-door hearings at Guantanamo Bay this week for 14 high-value prisoners including suspected Bali bombings mastermind Hambali and alleged September 11 plotter Khalid Shaikh Mohammed.
The Pentagon said today the initial hearings will begin on Friday for the 14 men transferred to the Cuban military prison camp from secret CIA jails.

No reporters or other outside observers such as defence lawyers would be allowed to attend the hearings to determine whether the men were enemy combatants.

Interest in the 14 is particularly high because of their alleged links to the al-Qaida network.

The Indonesian known as Hambali is accused of planning the 2002 Bali bombings that killed more than 200 people, including 88 Australians.

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed is the suspected mastermind of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the US. He was captured in Pakistan in March 2003.

"We will commence with the combatant status review tribunals for the 14 high-value detainees that came into DoD (Department of Defence) custody in September, commencing this Friday," Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told reporters.

"We will provide transcripts, with necessary redactions for national security, to you so that you can follow the proceedings that took place."

The prison camp at the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay holds about 385 suspects accused of fighting for al-Qa'ida, the Taliban or associated Islamist militant movements.

Indefinite detention and allegations of mistreatment at Guantanamo, which the US military denies, have tarnished the image of the US abroad. Many countries, including US allies, have called for the camp to be closed.

Lawyers for some of the Guantanamo prisoners said in an appeal to the US Supreme Court yesterday that the suspects had been unlawfully detained for more than five years and deserved at least a hearing to challenge their confinement.

They argued a US appeals court was wrong in a ruling last month that upheld a key part of an anti-terrorism law sought by President George W. Bush that took away rights of the prisoners to challenge their detention before US federal judges.

Australian terror suspect David Hicks, 31, has been charged with providing material support for terrorism.

It is expected he will make his first appearance before the military commission at the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, late this month.

Hicks has been in US custody for more than five years after being picked up on the Afghanistan battlefield in December 2001.

It is alleged Hicks trained and fought with al-Qa'ida against US and coalition troops in Afghanistan.

Reuters, AFP<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->Interesting that it took this long for these terrorists to confess - yet not under duress... If so, wouldn't they have done that on day 1 of their being apprehended? After all, these guys know they are the ones who did it.
They're not like regular criminals who end up admitting to their crimes when they see that the evidence the law has against them is overwhelming.
Because in this case, the criminals are international terrorists who care nothing for the law. So it's not like they're going to arbitrarily wait until the opposition finally marshals enough evidence for a case against them, that they then say: 'okay, enough. I did it.' In reality, they'd either have gloated over the kaffirs they victimised early on itself, or are admitting to it now under torture or other coercion.

The attackers threw grenades into a dormitory where about 75 boys between 12 and 17 were sleeping. Then they sprayed the area with automatic weapons fire.

Prem,

You make a good point.

The best way to guess future behavior of a person or a group of persons is to look at their past behavior.

Let us expect the worst and hope for the best. That is all we can do. We had a good opportunity in 1947 but that was wasted. Now, we have to just proceed with caution for the sake of national interest. Tragedy is, it is only Hindus who seem to care about the national interest.

<b>The Trouble With Islam </b>
By TAWFIK HAMID
April 3, 2007; Page A15

Not many years ago the brilliant Orientalist, Bernard Lewis, published a short history of the Islamic world’s decline, entitled "What Went Wrong?" Astonishingly, there was, among many Western "progressives," a vocal dislike for the title. It is a false premise, these critics protested. They ignored Mr. Lewis’s implicit statement that things have been, or could be, right.

But indeed, there is much that is clearly wrong with the Islamic world. Women are stoned to death and undergo clitorectomies. Gays hang from the gallows under the approving eyes of the proponents of Shariah, the legal code of Islam. Sunni and Shia massacre each other daily in Iraq. Palestinian mothers teach 3-year-old boys and girls the ideal of martyrdom. One would expect the orthodox Islamic establishment to evade or dismiss these complaints, but less happily, the non-Muslim priests of enlightenment in the West have come, actively and passively, to the Islamists’ defense.

These "progressives" frequently cite the need to examine "root causes." In this they are correct: Terrorism is only the manifestation of a disease and not the disease itself. But the root-causes are quite different from what they think. As a former member of Jemaah Islamiya, a group led by al Qaeda’s second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, I know firsthand that the inhumane teaching in Islamist ideology can transform a young, benevolent mind into that of a terrorist. Without confronting the ideological roots of radical Islam it will be impossible to combat it. While there are many ideological "rootlets" of Islamism, the main tap root has a name -- Salafism, or Salafi Islam, a violent, ultra-conservative version of the religion.

It is vital to grasp that traditional and even mainstream Islamic teaching accepts and promotes violence. Shariah, for example, allows apostates to be killed, permits beating women to discipline them, seeks to subjugate non-Muslims to Islam as dhimmis and justifies declaring war to do so. It exhorts good Muslims to exterminate the Jews before the "end of days." The near deafening silence of the Muslim majority against these barbaric practices is evidence enough that there is something fundamentally wrong.

The grave predicament we face in the Islamic world is the virtual lack of approved, theologically rigorous interpretations of Islam that clearly challenge the abusive aspects of Shariah. Unlike Salafism, more liberal branches of Islam, such as Sufism, typically do not provide the essential theological base to nullify the cruel proclamations of their Salafist counterparts. And so, for more than 20 years I have been developing and working to establish a theologically-rigorous Islam that teaches peace.

Yet it is ironic and discouraging that many non-Muslim, Western intellectuals -- who unceasingly claim to support human rights -- have become obstacles to reforming Islam. Political correctness among Westerners obstructs unambiguous criticism of Shariah’s inhumanity. They find socioeconomic or political excuses for Islamist terrorism such as poverty, colonialism, discrimination or the existence of Israel. What incentive is there for Muslims to demand reform when Western "progressives" pave the way for Islamist barbarity? Indeed, if the problem is not one of religious beliefs, it leaves one to wonder why Christians who live among Muslims under identical circumstances refrain from contributing to wide-scale, systematic campaigns of terror.
Politicians and scholars in the West have taken up the chant that Islamic extremism is caused by the Arab-Israeli conflict. This analysis cannot convince any rational person that the Islamist murder of over 150,000 innocent people in Algeria -- which happened in the last few decades -- or their slaying of hundreds of Buddhists in Thailand, or the brutal violence between Sunni and Shia in Iraq could have anything to do with the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Western feminists duly fight in their home countries for equal pay and opportunity, but seemingly ignore, under a façade of cultural relativism, that large numbers of women in the Islamic world live under threat of beating, execution and genital mutilation, or cannot vote, drive cars and dress as they please.

The tendency of many Westerners to restrict themselves to self-criticism further obstructs reformation in Islam. Americans demonstrate against the war in Iraq, yet decline to demonstrate against the terrorists who kidnap innocent people and behead them. Similarly, after the Madrid train bombings, millions of Spanish citizens demonstrated against their separatist organization, ETA. But once the demonstrators realized that Muslims were behind the terror attacks they suspended the demonstrations. This example sent a message to radical Islamists to continue their violent methods.

Western appeasement of their Muslim communities has exacerbated the problem. During the four-month period after the publication of the Muhammad cartoons in a Danish magazine, there were comparatively few violent demonstrations by Muslims. Within a few days of the Danish magazine’s formal apology, riots erupted throughout the world. The apology had been perceived by Islamists as weakness and concession.

Worst of all, perhaps, is the anti-Americanism among many Westerners. It is a resentment so strong, so deep-seated, so rooted in personal identity, that it has led many, consciously or unconsciously, to morally support America’s enemies.

Progressives need to realize that radical Islam is based on an antiliberal system. They need to awaken to the inhumane policies and practices of Islamists around the world. They need to realize that Islamism spells the death of liberal values. And they must not take for granted the respect for human rights and dignity that we experience in America, and indeed, the West, today.

Well-meaning interfaith dialogues with Muslims have largely been fruitless. Participants must demand -- but so far haven’t -- that Muslim organizations and scholars specifically and unambiguously denounce violent Salafi components in their mosques and in the media. Muslims who do not vocally oppose brutal Shariah decrees should not be considered "moderates."

All of this makes the efforts of Muslim reformers more difficult. When Westerners make politically-correct excuses for Islamism, it actually endangers the lives of reformers and in many cases has the effect of suppressing their voices.

Tolerance does not mean toleration of atrocities under the umbrella of relativism. It is time for all of us in the free world to face the reality of Salafi Islam or the reality of radical Islam will continue to face us.

Dr. Hamid, a onetime member of Jemaah Islamiya, an Islamist terrorist group, is a medical doctor and Muslim reformer living in the West.

<b>Muslim speaker 'not a security threat'</b>
The federal government has defended its decision to allow British firebrand Yvonne Ridley, who has reportedly praised suicide bombers as martyrs, to enter Australia.

Organisers of the first annual Australian Islamic Conference have chosen to hold the gathering in Melbourne during the Easter long weekend.

Ms Ridley, a Muslim convert known for her outspoken views, has been given the all-clear to enter Australia and address the conference on Saturday.

Opposition immigration spokesman Tony Burke said on Thursday Ms Ridley had previously praised the Chechen leader of the Beslan school massacre, Shamil Basayev, as a martyr, and urged Muslims in Britain not to co-operate with police.

She is also alleged to have described suicide bombings as "martyrdom operations".

Mr Burke said the government should investigate the comments to verify their authenticity, and kick Ms Ridley out of the country if necessary.

"If the quotes are accurate, her visa should be cancelled immediately," Mr Burke said.

He questioned how Ms Ridley could have passed the character test required for a visa.

Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said Ms Ridley had been allowed to enter Australia because there was nothing to suggest she was a security risk.

"In the case of Ms Ridley, she was judged not to be a threat to the national security of Australia," Mr Andrews told ABC Radio.

"There is a vast distinction between allowing somebody into Australia whose views you may not like, and somebody who is a threat to national security."

The immigration department this week decided not to allow another controversial figure, Sheik Bilal Philips, into Australia.

Sheik Philips, who was to be the keynote speaker at the conference, has been linked to the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Centre in New York.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>UK Navy hostages released from Iran</b>
By 7News

British Prime Minister Tony Blair has welcomed Iran's release of 15 navy personnel.
Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad pardoned and freed the 14 men and one woman ,during a news conference.

He labelled his decision a "gift to the British people", and then met the sailors who were dressed in suits.

The sailors were captured almost two weeks ago in the Persian Gulf by Iranian coast guards who claim they trespassed into their waters.

The personnel will fly home tonight to be reunited with their families.

The news is a welcome relief to the British Government and the crew's families.

One of the Sailor's Grandmother, April Rawsthorne, said the families had been absolutely devasted in the past 13 days.

"It's just been one of the longest of my life. But I'm just so happy today," she said.

The sailors will fly home tonight.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->Just a couple of days back, the news showed how Iran complained that the British marines had entered Iranian waters, while the Brits claimed they had only been in international waters. The US even came into the fray with Bush insisting Iran ought to let the British <i>hostages</i> go.

by Craig Murray

Global Research, March 28, 2007
Craig Murray Web Site

I have been unpopular before, but the level of threats since I started blogging on the captured marines has got a bit scary. It is therefore with some trepidation that I feel obliged to point this out.

The British Government has published a map showing the coordinates of the incident, well within an Iran/Iraq maritime border. The mainstream media and even the blogosphere has bought this hook, line and sinker.

But there are two colossal problems.

A) The Iran/Iraq maritime boundary shown on the British government map does not exist. It has been drawn up by the British Government. Only Iraq and Iran can agree their bilateral boundary, and they never have done this in the Gulf, only inside the Shatt because there it is the land border too. This published boundary is a fake with no legal force.

B) Accepting the British coordinates for the position of both HMS Cornwall and the incident, both were closer to Iranian land than Iraqi land. Go on, print out the map and measure it. Which underlines the point that the British produced border is not a reliable one.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>British pawns in an Iranian game</b>
By Pepe Escobar
[...]
Western corporate media overwhelmingly take for granted that the British were in Iraqi or "international" waters (wrong: these are disputed Iran/Iraq waters). Tehran has accused the British of "blatant aggression" and reminded world public opinion "this is not the first time that Britain commits such illegal acts" (which is true). Tehran diplomats later suggested that the British might be charged with espionage (which is actually the case in Khuzestan province in Iran, conducted by US Special Forces).<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->Seems a more motivated article, but some of this I know to be true.

Here's a hint to the west. Catch the Iranians on one of their Shia-j-hadi terrorism or hostage-taking or whatever. <i>Not</i> on their justified defense of the sovereignty of their borders or their taking action to teach the non-innocent transgessors not to do it again. Grief. No one gets my sympathies by tresspassing and then whining that they got caught for it and did a little (possibly scary?) time.
