2009 -- India Election -
The strategists of both Congress and SP seem convinced that the Mayawati gameplan is simple — let Varun-BJP polarize Hindus while she can clamp down on saffronites to consolidate Muslims behind BSP.

The gambit has a special role in western and central UP where BSP has to contend with strong challenge from SP and Congress. She can change the battle terrain by inserting a weak BJP in the play. A competitive SP and Congress hurt BSP more on Muslim front — a social group Mayawati is eyeing to supplement her Dalit-Brahmin combo.

Indian Police corruption is out and open. I don't understand how they are able to slap attempted murder case on Varun. It is just misuse of power and abusive use of law. Babus and legal system are openly corrupt
<b>Varun Gandhi may turn into aandhi</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->He now faces the prospect of up to a year in jail without bail though he can be set free much earlier depending on how soon the state government forwards the case to the advisory board and the decision is taken by the board.

If things move in his favour, he could come out of jail after 42 days of NSA being slapped against him, which would mean he would be out just three days before his constituency goes to polls on May 13.

With Mr Gandhi’s stay behind bars prolonged, the state polity looks headed towards communal polarisation. Mayawati, who was seen as dithering in taking action against him, initially, may like to see him behind bars for a prolonged period in the hope of gaining the support of Muslim voters. She has been assiduously wooing the community in the last few months.

<b>Varun episode will boomerang on Mayawati, says Venkaiah Naidu</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday alleged that invoking the provisions of the National Security Act against its candidate, Varun Gandhi, was a “conspiracy” by the Uttar Pradesh and Central governments to “defame Varun and the BJP.”
Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, senior party leader M. Venkaiah Naidu warned that: “such a conspiracy will become counterproductive and boomerang on the Bahujan Samaj Party and its leader Mayawati.” He said those behind this episode might have to pay a “heavy political price.” He urged the Congress to make known its stand on the issue.

<b>Terming it the “height of political vendetta,” </b>Mr. Naidu declared that the BJP would fight it legally and politically. “We will not be cowed down by this episode.”

He charged the Uttar Pradesh government with coming to a conclusion that Mr. Gandhi was guilty without even conducting an inquiry or verifying the veracity of the CD containing his speech.” Wondering why no action was taken against a Congress candidate from Chandigarh who too made a similar hate speech, Mr. Naidu alleged that the provisions of the<b> NSA were being misused to settle political scores.</b><!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
S Talageri comments on Sandhya Jain's article:

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->I agree with what some of the readers above are saying: this article does not seem as reasonable and thoughtful as many of Sandhyaji's other articles. Yes, I agree that lumpenism and Muslim-bashing are not what Hinduism and Hindutva are all about (I have even criticized the Gujarat anti-Muslim violence in my article in the Sita Ram Goel Commemoration volume published by Voice of India, New Delhi), some of my very best friends are Muslims, and I oppose America's role in Iraq and its intended actions against Iran, etc. And I feel that Christian proselytization and western cultural brainwashing of our Indian youth are infinitely greater dangers to India and Hinduism than Islamic terrorism, terrible and monstrous though that terrorism is. But, at the same time, the ugly face of Islamic fundamentalism and its potential dangers to India cannot be overlooked. See what is happening in Pakistan today. If Varun Gandhi has decided to take on a Hindu agenda, I fully support him. If he is doing it in a wrong way, it is unfortunate, and he should be corrected. But, as one of the letters above (anonymous?) points out, the article blames Sanjay, Maneka and Varun Gandhi for everyone's crimes. Most incredible of all is the allegation that the Sonia Gandhi led UPA government voted against Iran in the IAEA because Sonia Gandhi was close to Sanjay Gandhi, and Sanjay Gandhi was pro-American! It is news that the two brothers and their wives were even close to each other, but that Sanjay Gandhi's views should still be influencing Sonia in such matters a quarter of a century after his death is a bit too much. Also, many people, like myself, who were strongly anti-Indira and anti-Sanjay when they were still alive, now feel in hindsight that Indira Gandhi was the greatest (with Shastri) Prime Minister India ever had; and Sanjay Gandhi's ideas and priorities (family planning, afforestation, literacy, etc.) were just what India needed and needs. That his policies were implemented badly is a fact, and his arrogance and ruthlessness may have been responsible, but to give that arrogance and ruthlessness a communal angle is simply not right. That the sterilizations in Delhi and demolitions at Turkmen gate were done solely "to humiliate the Muslim community" is something which would have sounded more appropriate coming from the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Delhi. About the present fracas, I do not know exactly what was said by Varun Gandhi, and if he indeed said things about forcible nasbandi of Muslims, etc., that is certainly wrong of him; and the whole affair is an unfortunate one which does not bode well for Indian politics. But the whole tone of the article, that the BJP is being taken for a ride by a mother-and-son duo and must be warned against them seems to me a case of looking at the matter upside down: many reports suggest that it is the mother-and-son duo (who, as pointed out in the above article, have been continuously winning from Pilibhit, and did not really require this gimmick to win votes) who are being taken for a ride by the BJP which has a long and consistent history of playing both secular and firebrand-Hindu games simultaneously to win votes. It is rumoured that Varun was tutored by some BJP elements. The BJP may burn its fingers in this affair, but it may perhaps be Maneka and Varun who have burnt their fingers even more; and they may actually have the BJP to blame for it. The BJP has, in any case, betrayed Hindus time and again, and if the Varun affair works as their nemesis and prevents them from making a comeback, I for one will only thank Varun for it. I only hope Varun wins from his seat, and that he really takes up the cause of Hindus, but without this lumpen approach. But, the present events in Pakistan (today's events in Lahore, for example)

My comment below doesn't actually belong in this thread. It belongs in the christoislamism thread. But there isn't one and I'm referring to a small part of Talageri's writing pasted above, so I'm posting it here.

Agreeing with a lot of the other elements in Talageri's comment at VV, but have to disagree with this bit:
<!--QuoteBegin-Bodhi+Mar 31 2009, 11:16 AM-->QUOTE(Bodhi @ Mar 31 2009, 11:16 AM)<!--QuoteEBegin-->S Talageri comments on Sandhya Jain's article:

<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->So it's the missionaries and not christianism that is the problem? I mean the jihadis and not islam?

Muslims are a product of their ideology, it is not them that are the enemy (although if any terrorise, the response should be to shoot on sight) but the ideology. They are certainly dangerous, because they are the physical form given to the murderous ideology (the meme needs a body in order to murder). But it is the ideology that must be terminated. In theory, the terrorist mindvirus can be passed on in the last carrier, just as one last koran can be the long-hibernating seed for future villainy. These dangerous ideas (christoislamism) must be exposed and debunked, and the human populations must be immunised against them. Somehow.

Talageri attempts to make the impossible distinction: how it's somehow NOT islam but it's 'jihadists/islamic terrorists' that are the problem <!--emo&--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blink.gif' /><!--endemo--> (Actually, he doesn't even mention islam, only islamic terrorism - which further underscores the point.) By such logic, then, even if there were no islam there could still be jihadists...? So apparently jihadists spring up from nowhere?
<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->And I feel that Christian proselytization and western cultural brainwashing of our Indian youth are infinitely greater dangers to India and Hinduism than Islamic terrorism, terrible and monstrous though that terrorism is. But, at the same time, the ugly face of Islamic fundamentalism and its potential dangers to India cannot be overlooked. <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->And again, 'christian proselytisation' is the problem. No mention of christianism (the root and sole cause thereof).

Personal stories on having many muslim best friends is not going to solve the bigger problem of how the islamic masses are sleeper cells, ticking timebomb. It is a fact. Many a Kashmiri said how their friendly islamic neighbours are the ones that hounded them out violently in the end and have taken over their homes.
Hindus like to be deceived I think. Extinction is a certainty if they don't give up such traits. ISLAM is the problem, it is the root cause of jihadism. Decent muslim neighbours and friends become jihadists because of islam.

Closing one's eyes to the real problem and inventing phantoms or symptoms to fight is not going to do anything except to perpetuate the LIE that is going to ensure the extinction of Natural Traditions.

For all Talageri's apt criticism of BJP's secular waltz, Talageri himself is but a degree removed from the same.
Say it. Christoislamism is the enemy of humanity.
There is no two ways about it. We can either roll over and die or we can recognise and admit to what the terrorist ideology is by no means concealing: that these ideologies itself are our enemy and aim to destroy us. And recognition means we can then do something about it, instead of blaming 'them missionaries, jihadists and OBL' as if christians don't become missionaries and NLFT terrorists, and as if muslims don't become jihadists. Apparently missionaries/evanjihadis and jihadis/terrorists are a separate species born of air. Such conclusions are ostrich head-in-sand manoeuvres. They will help not at all. But I've repeated myself forever on this and I'm sure everyone's at least as tired as I am to have it all over again.

Polarisation can work to ones advantage depending on the nature of it; and how it is handled. Demolition of Babri Masjid helpd BJP in the next few years. Gujarat riots and its aftermath did not help BJP. Varun is an interesting experiment; and right now I am leaning towards that thought that this will help BJP in the state especially if it can be shown that he is the victim <b>to the aam admi.</b>
<b>Sanjay Dutt's electoral dream crashes, cannot contest polls</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Film star Sanjay Dutt's dream to plunge into electoral battle came crashing down as the Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to suspend his conviction in a criminal case and allow him to contest the polls.

Asked if his wife Manyata would be fielded as his party's general secretary Amar Singh had stated earlier, Dutt was non-committal. "This decision would be taken by (Samajwadi Party leaders)

<b>Advani equates Varun's arrest to Emergency era</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Senior BJP leader L K Advani [Images] has drawn a parallel between the arrest of Varun Gandhi under NSA and imprisonment of leaders like Jay Prakash Narayan and Atal Bihari Vajpayee during the Emergency.

"I remember the Emergency when great patriots like Jai Prakash Narayan, Morarji Desai, Atal Bihari Vajpayee were arrested under MISA contending that they were a threat to national security," he said referring to the Varun Gandhi episode in an interview to Zee News .

Advani said Varun's arrest was a work of "perverse mentality" and the people of the country would not forgive such an act.

"Nothing can be more perverse than using NSA during elections... people should not forget that elections were conducted after Emergency and those who were jailed had won," he said.

Advani said the Congress' attempts to call him the scriptwriter of the Varun episode as an act of "desperation and surrender."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>'02 riot-hit Muslim ex-cop joins BJP</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->He told TOI on Tuesday that he joined the BJP because of Modi. “Modi belongs to the same district as I, and he is one person who does what he says,” says Saiyad, who is from Ganwada village in Mehsana district. “Modi has a way of doing justice,” adds Saiyad.

Saiyad, who retired in May 2008 as an additional DGP, had found himself mobbed in Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad in March 2002. Seeing his police vehicle with flashing red lights approaching, the mob had stopped him to complain about stone throwing from the other side.

But someone noticed the name on his badge and started screaming for revenge. As the mob stoned his car, the driver sped away to safety in a miraculous escape for this officer who was heading the Police Training Academy at Karai near Ahmedabad in those days. Recalling the incident in a chat with TOI on Tuesday, Saiyad said: “They were just mad people who had nothing to do with the BJP. I am thankful that God gave me presence of mind on that day. Had I opened fire with my service revolver, I would have been lynched.”

He attributed his joining the BJP to a “well-wisher” who wrote a letter to LK Advani saying that the BJP should enrol educated Muslims like him. A few months after he retired, he got a call from state BJP president Purshottam Rupala who told him that his entry into the party would be “timed properly”. <b>Saiyad says he knew Modi from his days as Mehsana superintendent of police and he was always inclined towards the BJP.</b>

A reactive mob pelting a police car with stones is not as scary as a huge islamaniac mob burning up a train with civilian passengers (kaffirs only, lesser mortals, though they be) to provoke aggression. But I forget. It's all equal-equal.
If Hindus had reacted not at all, the victims of the islamic train attack would have got justice. Right? Oh wait. Hindus never get justice for becoming victims of christoislamanic genocide. Hmmm. A quandary I think.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Andhra chief minister's son worth over Rs.770 mn</b>
Wed, 01 Apr 2009
Hyderabad, April 1 (IANS) With assets of over Rs.770 million (Rs.77 crore), Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy is undoubtedly the richest politician in Andhra Pradesh.

Jaganmohan Reddy, who is making his debut in electoral politics by contesting from the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, owns movable and immovable assets of more than Rs.774 million (Rs.77.40 crore).

He declared this while filing his nomination papers through his uncle and sitting MP from Kadapa Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy before the district returning officer and Kadapa district collector Sashibhushan Kumar.

Jaganmohan Reddy has set a record if one goes by what has been declared by other candidates who filed nomination papers for the first phase of polls.

According to the statement submitted to the returning officer, Jaganmohan Reddy <b>owns immovable assets of nearly Rs.380 million (Rs.37.99 crore) and his wife Bharati Rs.84.8 million (Rs.8.48 crore).</b>

The chief minister's son, an industrialist, said he has Rs.31,695 in cash and Rs.1.6 million (Rs.16 lakh) in the bank. He also has third party loans of Rs.66.3 million (Rs.6.63 crore) but no bank loans.

A major part of his money is in 15 private firms in the form of bonds and shares. This includes shares of Rs.300 million (Rs.30 crore) in Bharati Cements and Rs.61.3 million (Rs.6.13 crore) in Sandur Power Project company.

<b>The statement also shows that Jaganmohan Reddy and his wife own properties in Hyderabad, on the outskirts of the city, and in other parts of Kadapa district, Udupi and Shimoga.</b><!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
