So what is going on in Maharashtra with Pawar going to Bal Thackeray's home? And the INC fulminating about price rise and blaming Pawar?
  Reply
Pawar was able to impose ban on export of grains, pulses, sugar and rice from India. Plus two years back Maha. sugar cooperation decided not to grow sugarcane, this year poor weather spoiled farms. Pawar and Patils are big player in Sugar. There purpose was to increase price. Pawar is linked with global commodity players.

Govt banned export, but they allowed private party to export, which directly benefited Pawar and other key extended friends, who are reaping benefits. Outside India, prices of pulses, rice etc had gone up, in some cases more than 300%. At the end, Indian farmers are losing because previously by exporting they were getting fair price, now they are getting less price but product they are producing is highly priced in export market. On top, private export is in full swing and which is causing shortage in India and higher prices.

Last two years sugar production was very low. Now India is importing just to stabilize price. In US also, import lobby is saying there will be shortage this year but domestic sugar producers are saying, they can produce and fill gap, they are saying there is no shortage.

Sugar average price is now .39/lbs, it used to be .27/lbs in 2008.

Now, Canada, California, Mexico had started growing pulses. We will see drop in price within one year. Again loss to Indian farmers. Here they are forced or moved to very lucrative pulse farming.

He is trying to push INC to take action against him. He advised to eat less sugar if sugar is expensive. He will just behave very insensitively for some time. In India no one is trying to be even responsible for the entire nation. If you are able to get your 10 seats to blackmail the coalition then that is enough.

The Chanikayan in me wants this person to become PM of India even if it is for six months.

Quote:Feb. 9 (Bloomberg) -- A global sugar shortage, which drove prices to the highest level in three decades, may peak in the third quarter this year on demand from the U.S., Mexico, India and Pakistan, according to U.S.-based Tropix Capital Management.
Quote:India, the biggest user, may need to import an extra 2.5 million to 3 million tons this season to meet a 7 million ton deficit, according to Kingsman. Pakistan, Asia’s third-biggest user, plans to purchase 1.25 million tons by June. The country “apparently bought 100,000 tons” from Cargill Inc. in the past few days

In US, buy sugar after Easter for whole next 18 months.

Pawar and others game plan are on dot.

Quote:This would not be the first time that Pawar has cozied up to his "rival" to create a problem for his "partner". He flirted with the Sena ahead of last year's national elections as he had even in 2004. This time, Thackeray was caught in a rare double-bind with both Congress and BJP hitting out at him for threatening MNIK. But just as a demoralised tiger was ready to throw in the towel, Pawar appeared as a rescue act.

Quote:JAI MAHARASHTRA .

We all should support Raj Thackeray and take his initiative ahead by doing more...

1. We should teach our kids that if he is second in class, not to study harder. just beat up the student coming first and throw him out of the school.

2. Parliament should have only Delhiites as it is located in Delhi.

3. Prime-minister, president and all other leaders should only be from Delhi.

4. No Hindi movie should be made in Bombay . Only Marathi. Bollywood must shift near Kashi Vidyapeeth (B H U).

5. At every state border, buses, trains, flights should be stopped and staff changed to local men.

6. All Maharashtrians working abroad or in other states should be sent back as they are SNATCHING employment from Locals.

7. Lord Shiv, Ganapati and Parvati should not be worshiped in our state as they belong to north (Himalayas).

8. Visits to Taj Mahal should be restricted to people holding UP passport only.

9. Relief for farmers in Maharashtra should not come from center because that is the money collected as Tax from whole of India, so why should it be given to someone in Maharashtra?

10. Let's support Kashmiri Militants because they are right in killing and injuring innocent people for benefit of their state and community......

11. Let's throw all MNCs out of Maharashtra . Why should they earn from us? We will open our own Maharashtra Mi karo soft, MH Pep see, Peru-Juice, Jhunka-Bhaakari, and MH Marutees of the world.

12. Let's stop using cell phones, emails, TV, foreign Movies and dramas unless James Bond speaks Marathi.

13. Lata-Ayee and Asha- Tai must be thrown out of Bomb Aye (very sorry: Amchee - Mumbai): they have earned more money singing other-languages songs.

13. We should be ready to die hungry or buy food at 10 times higher price but should not accept imports from other states.

14. We should not allow any industry to be setup in Maharashtra because all machinery comes from outside

15. We should STOP using local trains... Trains are not manufactured by Marathi manoos (people)

16. Ensure that all our children are born, grow, live and die without ever stepping out of Maharashtra, then they will become true Marathi's.

Normally, the AC plant of the Assembly House is closed after the adjournment, Shekhawat has given instructions not to shut it in the night.

All the seven women members of the party are also in the well of the House. Late in the evening, they were seen serving food to their male colleagues.

Earlier in the evening, the members were heard singing patriotic songs and in between were shouting anti-Government slogans.

In an unprecedented move, the Opposition BJP on Thursday sat on an indefinite dharna in the well of the Rajasthan Assembly in protest against the suspension of its chief whip for a year.

Demanding imposition of President's Rule in Manipur, members of Naga Students Union, Shillong held a sit-in protest at Nagaland House here shouting slogans against Manipur government's 'highhandedness'.

"The unprovoked firing that led to the killing of Naga people at Mao is unconstitutional and act of highhandedness. The culprits should be brought to book and a judicial probe instituted into the incident," students' body spokesman Xavier Mao said.

Officials in Imphal, however, maintained that three people, including two women, were killed in a stampede when the police used teargas to disperse the people at Mao on that day. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news...907279.cms

I only saw the headline, not read it. Not on temples, but it does involve the DMK:

news.in.msn.com/national/article.aspx?cp-documentid=3905532

South Indian actress Khushboo to join DMK

IIRC the ancient Khushboo was a muslim who predictably married some secular something and officially converted to 'hinduism' out of convenience, while still uttering anti-Hinduisms (easier to do so when hiding behind a Hindu label).

And now she's joining the anti-Hindu DMK. Yes, *of course* she converted.

I was told she has lots of fans in TN, which is likely to translate to increased support for DMK, I'm guessing.

Reddy was on his second leg of "odarpu yatra" - a much publicised tour to console families of those committed suicide in the wake of his father's death last September). His trip to Telangana region had whipped up passion with Telangana activists getting into a battle with Reddy supporters in Mahabubabad. The police had to open fire and Reddy was asked not to proceed on his yatra.

The Congress high command had also asked Reddy to call off his trip. But defying the order, Reddy took the Inter-City Express train to Warangal from Secunderabad. http://news.in.msn.com/national/article....781&page=2

Quote:Chidambaram had said he had received reports from the Karnataka government that an internal brawl at the hermitage led to the shooting and Sri Sri may not have been the target.

Hermitage Administrator Narendra Lamba said one could not jump to a conclusion about the alleged rift before the probe was over.

“Such a statement from a person (Chidambaram) holding such a responsible position is unwarranted,” he said.

Karnataka DGP Ajai Kumar Singh had said the shooting was not an attempt on Sri Sri's life.

The hermitage said Chidambaram was influenced by the police’s assumptions that the firing took place after the guru had left.

Sri Sri was present at the spot, the hermitage said.

But Ibobi Singh, knowing fully well how Muivah is perceived in Manipur — as a rabble-rouser encouraging secession for the cause of Greater Nagaland — decided to oppose the Naga leader’s entry, scared that it would create social unrest and serious law and order issues in Manipur. Annoyed at the way the Union home ministry took a unilateral decision on the matter without consulting Manipur, Ibobi Singh, who’s brought the Congress to power twice in the state, put his foot down. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india...014984.cms

The land acquisition and rehabilitation policy formulated by Haryana is not there anywhere else in the world. Under this, when we acquire some land for development purposes, we give full compensation and annuity for 33 years, which means we have a fixed floor rate throughout the state, depending on proximity, etc. Rs 1,000 per acre per year is paid as annuity for 33 years and every year Rs 500 is added to it. In case the acquisition is for an SEZ, then annuity is Rs 30,000 per year for 33 years with an increase of Rs 1,000 annually. Suppose HSIIDC or HUDA acquires land, we re-habilitate the farmers. The policy takes care that the acquisition should benefit at least one generation ahead. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/khap-p...o/633101/6

Quote:state Chief Minister K. Rosaiah asking party legislators to boycott Lok Sabha member Jagan Mohan Reddy’s consolation tour. Rosaiah, who has been facing lack of cooperation from a section of ministers close to Reddy since he took over in September last year, said participation in the ‘Odarpu Yatra’ would amount to “gross indiscipline”. “If anyone violates this and takes part in the yatra, the party will deal with them appropriately,” he said.

In Delhi, the Congress downplayed Reddy’s decision. “There are far greater issues, such as the Kashmir situation and economy, to deal with. This is not an issue about which we are worried,” party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said.

Gandhi had earlier suggested that instead of a statewide tour, he assemble the affected families and console them together, as well as offer them financial assistance. Reddy did not do so. Yet, the party is unlikely to take tough action against him in view of his “emotional attachment” with the tour.

Looks like Queen is ready for compromise and will later side with winner of public emotion.
