Expressing concern over a WikiLeaks report that Lashkar-e-Toiba had planned to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, BJP today accused the US of "inaction on the issue" and wanted to know how the government intends to handle it.



"It is a matter of serious concern. He (Modi) is the target of both - those who call themselves secular in this country and also from Pakistan agencies," BJP leader Balbir Punj told reporters outside Parliament.



According to Information coming out of a secret State Department cable dated June 19, 2009, Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba had planned to assassinate Modi.



"The US should have conveyed it (information) to India. There was total inaction on the part of the US even after having the information," he charged.



Seeking a response from the government over the issue Punj said, "Government has not taken any tangible steps even after this has come to light. We will like to know from the Prime Minister that how we intend to take up the issue with the USA."

[indent]I saw the streamers on three different news channels, which ran this strip. Looks like assissination was planned in Pakistan by LeT in June in 2008.





But they only picked up from Karan Thapar left it in his article advocating it, of course in a subtle way.

Only the sudden removal of Narendra Modi can stop this. For he is the agent forcing this change. And whilst he’s with us, he will do just that. I have no doubt Indian politics after Sunday the 23rd is another country. We have to live with new challenges. Some of us have to accept new leaders.

New Delhi: Shashi Tharoor, former minister of state for external affairs, calls the the latest expose by whistleblower website WikiLeaks unethical and wrong and says the contents of some leaked diplomatic cables cannot conclusively establish the view one country holds of another.



"I have absolutely no doubt that this is unethical and wrong because the confidentiality of government communications is the lifeblood of diplomatic comfort," said Tharoor, a lawmaker from Thiruvananthapuram who has also served as a undersecretary general at the United Nations.



"You do not effectively run a government if your own diplomats cannot report to their own capitals in utter candour," Tharoor, who was a contender and India's candidate for the post of secretary general of the United Nations, told IANS in an interview here.

Tharoor said what was also irritating about these leaks is they not only violated the peace canons of diplomatic conduct but also sullied the common sense that revealing matters out of context do not actually achieve the larger points these whistleblowers to make.



Founded in 2006 as a non-profit by Australian journalist Julian Paul Assange, WikiLeaks is a whistleblower website that claims to open up governments by providing innovative, secure and anonymous way for sources to leak information through websites.



This time it has created a storm by leaking some 250,000 dispatches to the US by its diplomats from various countries, contents of which have not only embarrassed Washington, but also some countries vis a vis others.

(All my comments were irrelevant for the reason of "He's so lame he deserves to be dismissed, even out of context". If silly people insist on making public speeches - especially the high-handed kind - I think I recall that that much-vaunted freedom of speech thing promised one the right to make pointless low-brow fun of them.)

ZoomThe movie industry is taking matters into its own hands yet again in regards to fighting piracy. According to reports, "cyber hitmen" are under contract to take down websites hosting illegal movies by using denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. One firm based in India has even come forward to admit that the tactic is used when copyright infringement notices go unheeded.



Girish Kumar, managing director of Aiplex Software in India, said that most movies are released locally at 10am on Friday. Later on in the afternoon, those same movies will have leaked onto the Internet, appearing on storage websites and torrent search engines.



"We find the hosting [computer] server and send them a copyright infringement notice because they're not meant to have those links," Kumar said in a telephone interview. "If they don't remove [the link] we send them a second notice and ask them [again] to remove it."



When the second notice goes unheeded, Aiplex Software will then launch a DoS attack. This means that the firm floods the offending website with millions and millions of requests until the site's server is knocked offline.



Kumar admitted that the firm sometimes had to go the extra step to prevent further movie circulation by actually destroying the data. Typically the big offenders are 20 to 25-percent of the current torrent sites.



For now, most of Aiplex Software's business stems from India, however Hollywood is also using their "services" including 20th Century Fox and Star TV.

New Delhi: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has served a legal notice to the Congress over its website being redirected to the Congress (AICC) website.



According to sources, the BJP was worried for the last few months over low hits to its website. Some minor checks revealed surprising results.



If a surfer types www.bjp.com in his/her browser, the webpage will automatically take them to the All India Congress Committee's official site.



After research, it was found that an old company - Bharat Janata Prakashan - was the owner of BJP.com before the party went cyber, sources said.



Few months ago the domain was bought by someone and autodirected to the AICC official website.
