Gujarat, Sept 29: At least two persons were dead and 8 others injured when a low intensity blast occurred in Sabarkantha in Gujarat, late Monday night. Besides the reports coming in from Malegaon in Maharastra also stated that one person is dead and seven injured in yet another blast that occurred in the vicinity of a mosque.
The blast took place in sukabazar area of Modasa town. Sabarkantha is a Muslim dominated area and the blast is reported to have taken place at a time when a large crowd had congregated in the market for Eid shopping.
The deceased are reported to be two teenaged boys named Zainuddin Ghauri and Nizamuddin Ghauri.
The bomb is believed to have been implanted on a motorbike. The police have condoned off the area and the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals. The people have been asked not to panic and remain indoors.
The Gujarat police is taking the incident very seriously as earlier in the day 17 crude bombs were recovered from a rubbish bin in Ahmedabad. According to reports, all the bombs have been defused by the bomb disposal squad.
The recovery of bombs near Kalupur Darwaza a day before the beginning of the stateâs famous nine-day long Navaratri festival has sent terror waves across Gujarat. It has further increased the tensions of police, who will now have to ensure the fixation of metal detectors on the entry gates of all Navaratri functions.
A probe into who placed the bombs into the dustbin is on. No further detail on the incident is available yet.
As many as 22 co-ordinated serial blasts ripped across Ahmedabad city on July 26 killing at least 56 people and injuring more than 100. A day later, nearly two dozen live bombs were found in Surat.
Blast in Malegaon
Another blast that occurred almost simultaneously in Maharashtraâs Malegaon, claimed three persons and injured over 20. The target of the bomb appears to be the Muslim population that had assembled near the Noorani Masjid, ahead of the Eid festival.
In Malegaon, the police is yet to confirm the nature of the blast. The police is confronting a stiff resistance from the irate mob of local people, who are not allowing the security men to enter the area.
According to an eyewitness, the blasts took place with a defending sound and people were seen running helter and skelter.
The police have fired in the air to disperse the irate mob which resorted to pelting stones.
Since Malegaon has narrow by lanes, the blast led to a stampede in which scores have been injured.
Speaking to Zee News, Malegaon MLA C Dadabhai Bhose confirmed that following the blast the local residents have gone berserk, and have resorted to stone pelting as the police tried to enter the area.
However, IG of Nasik range S P Gupta said that the situation is tense but under control, and the policemen injured in stone pelting have been sent to hospital.
He further said that the local Ulema has been contacted to ask the local residents to stay calm. He assured that sufficient forces have been deployed and there is no need for the people to panic.

In a major snub to the Samajwadi Party in general and its general secretary Amar Singh in particular, Jamia Nagar encounter martyr Mohan Chand Sharma's father Narottam Sharma has said that the family would not accept the Rs 10-lakh cheque offered by the leader. Â

"I am sad at the comments made by Singh, who has offered a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to our family. My son sacrificed his life for the nation and my family is still grieving his death. By accepting the cheque, I will not allow politicians to make a mockery of my son's death. He is talking rubbish</b>," said the upset father.
SP general secretary Amar Singh has raised questions about the encounter of September 19 at Jamia Nagar, in which Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was shot by two suspected terrorists of the Indian Mujahideen. Singh had said that Sharma was transferred from the Special Cell before the encounter took place.
A couple of days ago, the family had returned the same cheque to the Samajwadi Party after it drew a blank in the bank. The cheque had apparently not been filled correctly. But the party then said it would correct the mistake and reissue the cheque. So far, however, the family has not received any corrected cheque from Singh or his party.
Singh, who had offered the cheque to Sharma's family soon after the encounter, later visited Jamia Nagar and demanded a judicial probe into the encounter. The statement was made obviously with an eye on the party's Muslim vote bank.<b> "My son was not transferred from the Special Cell. I request people not to spread false information about the encounter. My son was dedicated to his profession. I am shocked that senior leaders like him (Amar Singh) had made comments against the credibility of my son's sacrifice. I do not want politics to tarnish the name of my son,"</b> added Sharma.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit visited Sharma's residence on Monday morning. Dikshit assured the family of her Government's complete support and said that Mohand Chand Sharma had made a great sacrifice for the nation. In the evening, former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani said at a public meeting that Sharma had made a huge contribution to the country at the cost of his life. "We should respect his sacrifice. Parties should not play dirty politics by criticising the encounter at Jamia Nagar. Let Sharma be a legend for the nation to remember," said Advani.
Singh's comments have also drawn public ire. A group of students and well-wishers of the Sharma family on Monday demonstrated outside the Lodhi Road residence of Amar Singh. A group of young people carrying placards, including the students of the nearby Dyal Singh College, marched to Singh's residence shouting slogans and demanding action against terrorists. The crowd was later dispersed by mild use of force by the police personnel posted outside Singh's residence.
Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat later clarified that Sharma had not been transferred from the Special Cell, the elite anti-terror wing of Delhi Police. "Sharma had gone to Jamia Nagar in his capacity as a Special Cell inspector," said Bhagat. The UPA Government, meanwhile, has already rejected the Samajwadi Party's demand for ordering a judicial probe into the encounter.

GUWAHATI: Over 40 people were killed and more than 200 injured today as 13 serial bomb blasts triggered by Islamic militants in crowded areas of lower Assam and Guwahati.
The bombs went off simultaneously at around 11.30 AM mostly in markets of Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta districts.
While 25 were killed in the four blasts in Guwahati, 10 others died in Kokrajhar, three in Barpeta and two in Bongaigaon.

Thursdayâs carnage in Assam, which has claimed the lives of scores of innocent civilians and left hundreds badly mauled, was waiting to happen. The series of bombings across the country in recent months has already established one indisputable fact: With a weak Union Government in New Delhi whose writ does not run beyond the sanitised corridors of North Block and South Block, terrorists can strike at will and with deadly effect any time at any place with impunity. The massacre in Assam not only re-establishes this point, it also makes a mockery of the UPA Governmentâs much-publicised pledge to crack down on terror after the Delhi bombings of September 13. <b>Worse, it shows up the abysmal failure of the Union Home Ministry and the intelligence agencies which, under the tutelage of Mr Shivraj Patil, have virtually ceased to fulfil their responsibilities</b>. In the past, whenever terrorists have struck in States ruled by the BJP, the Union Home Ministry and the intelligence agencies have slyly put it out that advance warnings were issued to the State Governments, thus seeking to pin the blame on local authorities while white-washing their own lapses. This ploy suffered a jolt when terrorists bombed Delhi although that did not prevent the Home Minister from trying to brazen it out, and laughably so. <b>Now that terrorists have devastated cities in another Congress-ruled State, the Home Ministry is understandably stumped for an adequate response, although it is unlikely that it will own up to its folly, nor will Mr Patil be made to pay for his stunning inefficiency</b>. The immediate official reactions have been no different from previous asinine platitudes.
<b>Little or no purpose will be served by trying to guess the identity of the organisation behind Thursdayâs bombings. In the amorphous world of Islamic jihad, identities are as hazy as the shadowy faces of those who derive macabre pleasure at the sight of gore and flesh.</b> What can be said with some certitude is that the killers owe allegiance to an organisation which has struck roots in Assam and is sustained by patrons across the border: The Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami, with its base in Bangladesh, fits the bill. The Congress Government in Assam has pathetically tried to deflect attention from jihadis by suggesting that ULFA planned the bombings. The police have been prompt in rejecting this suggestion and have named HuJI. There are three reasons why the needle of suspicion points to this Islamist outfit. First, the vast number of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh makes it easy for HuJI â or for that matter any terrorist organisation â to recruit foot soldiers to carry out their instructions. Second, places other than Guwahati that have been attacked have a history of militant Islamism with land-grabbing Bangladeshi immigrants clashing with the indigenous people, for instance in the Bodo majority areas. Indeed, Thursdayâs assault may have been in retaliation to the Bodos trying to drive out Bangladeshis from tribal land.<b> Third, the Congress, to perpetuate its rule in Assam through vote-bank politics, which involves extending protection and granting legitimacy to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, has created a situation where even Pakistanis can register as voters in the State and contest elections, as was recently revealed</b>. Indeed, given its demographic profile, Assam was a sitting duck for jihadis. Had the State Government been alert and the intelligence agencies been doing their job, Thursdayâs tragedy could have been avoided.
