Bodos threaten to dump Cong

BY MANOJ ANAND
Guwahati

Oct. 21: The differences between the ruling Congress Party and its key alliance partner, the Bodo People’s Front, has started widening with the later threatening to serve an ultimatum of two months for continuing their support to the government.

The differences between the alliance partners are said to have been cropped up over the alleged failure of the ruling Congress government in giving protection to the Bodos during the riot in trouble-torn Northern Assam’s Udalguri and Darrang districts.

Though, BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary refused to make it public but expressed his reservation over the role of the Congress ministers during the riot.

Mr Mohilary, who is meeting Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi here on Wednesday, told reporters that they are demanding CBI probe into the Northern Assam carnage, besides a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakhs to each family which lost its members in the riot. The BPF has also demanded a permanent security arrangement from New Delhi to instill the confidence of the indigenous people in the area.

Earlier during the day, senior BPF MLA Karendra Basumatary told reporters that they are not going to support this government anymore as it has failed in giving protection to the indigenous people of the state. He said: “Even if my party continues to support, I am serving an ultimatum of two months to the ruling party to muster support for their government.”

The differences cropping up in the ruling alliance came to focus on Monday when lone BPF MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmutiary single-handedly stalled the proceedings of the Lok Sabha over the recent incidents of violence in Darrang and Udalguri districts.

The Kokrajhar MP’s act in Parliament has put a question mark over the alliance with the Congress in Assam, as he also indulged in to verbal altercations with senior Congress leaders, loudly protesting the Assam government’s “inaction” during the carnage. Various Bodo organisations have already expressed ire.

<b>BJP sweeps district Panchayat Polls in Uttarakhand</b>
By Ravindra Saini in Dehradun

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the District Panchayat polls in Uttarakhand. The party bagged 9 out of 12 District Panchayat president posts in the polls held at various district headquarters on October 10. The Panchayats that the BJP won included Pithoragarh, Champawat, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Almora, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Bageshwar. Congress managed to win only two seats of Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar, while a seat of Dehradun has gone to an independent.

In Dehradun, BJP candidate Neeru Devi lost to rebel BJP leader Madhu Chauhan who contested as an independent by just one vote. In Tehri, Shri Ratan Singh Gunsola of BJP won against Smt Ambika Sajwan of Congress (wife of former Congress Minister Shoorvir Singh Sajwan) in a straight fight. Shri Gunsola secured 30 votes, while Smt Ambika got merely 15 votes. In Pauri, Shri Keshav Singh Negi of BJP won against Shri Bhuvnesh Kharkwal of Congress. Shri Negi secured 37 votes, while Shri Kharkwal received 11 votes. One vote was held invalid. In Uttarkashi, BJP’s Shri Narayan Singh Chauhan was declared winner.

In Chamoli, BJP candidate Smt Vijaya Rawat won against Smt. Godavari Rawat, after independent candidate and wife of Sports Minister Rajni Bhandari withdrew from the contest at the last minute. While Smt Vijaya Rawat secured 22 votes, Congress candidate could secure merely 5 votes. In Rudraprayag, Shri Chandi Prasad Bhatt of BJP won against Shri Virendra Singh Bist of Congress.

In Pithoragarh, Smt. Ranjana Devi of BJP won against Malti Arya of Congress in a straight contest. Smt. Ranjana Devi got 21 votes, while Malti Arya could manage only 13 votes. In Bageshwar, Shri Ram Singh Koranga of BJP won against independent Smt Kunti, who was supported by Congress. In Almora, Shri Mohan Ram of BJP won against Rajendra Barakoti of Congress. Shri Mohan Ram secured 35 votes, while Shri Barakoti could manage only 13 votes. In Udham Singh Nagar, Congress candidate Smt. Sushila Gangwar of Congress won against Paramjit.

Celebrations broke out at the BJP headquarters in Dehradun after initial trends suggested that party candidates were doing fairly well in District Panchayat elections. “All credit goes to our party workers who worked hard in the polling,” said Shri Ajay Bhatt, BJP state general secretary. He claimed that success in the Panchayat polls clearly indicates that the party has strong presence in rural areas. “The results are referendum on the working of the State government,” he added. Most of the Ministers of Shri Khanduri cabinet had been camping in their respective districts for the last several days to guarantee success for the BJP candidates.

The BJP also won more than 40 posts of Block Presidents out of 89 seats where elections were held on October 9. Congress could manage to win around 25 seats. UKD was restricted to just 2 seats while the left parties won 1 seat. Four seats went to others.

BJP won 4 out of 6 blocks in Dehradun district, while Congress won the remaining 2. In Pithoragarh, the BJP won 5 while Congress won 3 out of a total of 9 seats. One seat was won by an independent. In Champawat, Congress won 3 while BJP won 2 out of a total of 5 seats. In Bageshwar district, 2 seats were won by BJP while the remaining one seat was won by Congress candidate. In Rudraprayag, BJP won two seats while independent won one and Congress had to draw a blank. In Udham Singh Nagar, four seats were won by Congress, BJP won 2 while one was won by independent.

In Tehri, the BJP won four, the Congress won 2 while the remaining one seat was won by UKD. In Almora, the BJP won five seats while Congress won four. One seat went to independent. In Uttarkashi, BJP won four while Congress could win only one seat. One seat was won by an independent. In Chamoli, the BJP won four and Congress won three seats. The remaining two seats went to others. In Pauri, the BJP won 5, Congress 4 and six seats went to others. In Nainital, both the BJP and Congress won four seats each. Polling for the posts of Block Presidents, Senior Vice Presidents and Junior Vice Presidents was held on October 9.

Chief Minister Shri BC Khanduri expressed happiness at the BJP’s success in the Panchayat polls. He thanked the party workers and the people for their support. He added that BJP’s performance in the Parliamentary and Assembly by-polls, in the Urban local bodies polls and now the 3-tier Panchayat polls during the past 18 months of its rule showed that people were happy with the performance of the government. He observed that BJP workers worked hard, reaching each and every village and working in a systemic and disciplined way. They deserve congratulations for this. He noted that development work had been affected due to the Model Code of Conduct that remained in force in the state for a major part of 18 months under BJP rule due to a string of elections. However, the results showed that the people were happy with the performance of the government, he claimed.

<b>Maya at it again, stalls Rahul’s meet</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->The political animosity between the Congress and the BSP touched a new low on Friday when the Mayawati Government cancelled Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Kanpur Agriculture University and also denied security to the Gandhi scion for almost an hour.

Enraged over the Government’s move, UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi called it a “conspiracy to kill Rahul Gandhi”. She said: “On the instructions of the Government, the programme was forcibly cancelled. Security was removed abruptly just to ensure that Rahul could not meet the students.”

The Special Protection Group accompanying Rahul Gandhi has also lodged a complaint with SSP Kanpur for not providing sufficient security to Rahul Gandhi at Chandra Shekhar Azad Agriculture University, where he was supposed to have an interaction with students.

The proposed meeting was, however, cancelled at the behest of the State Government at the last minute. Vice-Chancellor VK Suri confirmed that the proposed interaction session between Rahul Gandhi and students was cancelled but he refused to cite any reason.

The Government spokesman, however, denied that the Government cancelled Rahul’s meeting. “The university administration might have cancelled the meeting as neither the Government nor the district administration were involved in granting permission to Rahul Gandhi to hold a meeting,” the spokesman said in a release issued in Lucknow.

Sack Vilasrao Govt or we quit House: JD(U) MPs

Under pressure from several UPA allies to act tough on<b> anti-north Indian violence in Maharashtra where the Congress-NCP Government is allegedly supporting the reign of terror </b>let loose by Raj Thackeray-led MNS, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has virtually expressed his helplessness in dealing with the crisis.

“What can I do?” the Prime Minister told his cabinet colleagues when the issue of Maharashtra violence was raised by LJP chief and Steel, Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.

The Prime Minister said he had written a strongly-worded letter to State Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and also talked to him over phone.

Sources said the overwhelming view in the Cabinet favoured Raj Thackeray’s arrest under NSA and judicial probe into the killing of a Bihari youth at the hands of the police. The Prime Minister asked Home Minister Shivraj Patil to convey the Cabinet’s views to the State Chief Minister.

The twin demand for Raj’s arrest and judicial probe was raised by Paswan and supported by majority of the Cabinet Ministers.

Paswan said that when MDMK chief Vaiko was arrested for supporting LTTE, why not Raj Thackeray be put behind bars for fomenting separatist tendencies in the financial capital of the country.

You got it spot on buddy. In TN CON-gress lost in 1967. Since then they couldn’t win any election on their own. Until Moopanar was around they were able to win few but now they are a dead party. They do not have a vote share to boast about.

I had a discussion with fellow blog-reader Sootradhar. I wanted to highlight the game CON-gress is playing in Maharashtra using Raj thackrey. One example of Linguistic chavenishm is TN as per every fellow North-Indian, East-Indian or West-Indian is concerned. What you have to know is the truth behind TN Tamil politics. Let this be an eye-opener to all my fellow-Indians.

Vaiko who dies several times a year for SL Tamils is basically a Telugu. His mother tongue is not Tamil
Jayalalitha is a Kanadiga
Vijayakanth is a Telugu
MGR was a Malayalee
Rajinikanth is a Marathi
Periyar(Founder of DK) was a Kanadiga
Today the second in command of ruling DMK Arcot Veerasamy is a Telugu. Many DMK cadres are Telugus and Malayalees.

In the last state assembly out of 234 MLA’s 88 were Telugu, 38 were Malayalees. That is half the MLA’s were from other languages. So much so that they passed a bill to allow them speak in their respective mother-tongues in assembly. If rest of India thinks TN is language Chauvenist State you guys are utterly wrong. Because Tamil Nadu is the only state in India where Tamil was not compulsory subject in schools. I learnt English and Hindi as first and secon language. Not TAMIL. I do not know what is the case now. But at least until 2000 it wasn’t. So much so for Tamil after DK parties ruling TN since 1967. All this anti-Hindi rhetoric is a gimic played out by people who do not even speak Tamil as their mother-tongue.Fot that matter Hindi is spoken as mother tongue only in UP and MP if I am not wrong. Remaining states have their own languages.

Chennai has close to 50% Telugu poplulation.

So Bal Thackrey and Raj Thackrey or for that matter anyone else who wants to copy Linguistic chauvenism in any other part of India must first realise that Tamil politics is played out by non-Tamil speaking politicians. Vaiko in particular. So at least do not cite TN as a case point any more.

<b>VHP sends 1 lakh SMSes against Gujarat Govt</b>

Ahmedabad, November 4: The feud in the Sangh outfits of Gujarat has taken a new dimension with the VHP members sending one lakh SMSes on Tuesday against its sister organisation - BJP, which is running the state government.
It all started with the arrests of Ashwin Patel, a VHP member by the Gandhinagar police alleging that he was instrumental in sending SMSes defaming Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi after the July 26 serial blasts.

One of the SMS send on Tuesday by the VHP read, “Bomb blasts in Gujarat under whose rule?” Another SMS send by the VHP to the people said, “Wah re Modi tera khel, Muslimo Ko mithai, Hindu ko jail (Modi is playing game by giving sweets to Muslims and jail to Hindus)”.

Modi's roadshow despite roadblock

Modi's first programme in the city, a rally at R K Ashram Marg that was converted into a roadshow when the cops denied permission was finally called off. "Shiela Dikshit didn't want me to come to her area and ensured that I didn't get permission for the meeting. Recently, I had met her at a dinner at the PM's house and she had asked me not to come to Delhi I didn't realise she was serious about it,'' Modi said,

A senior police official clarified that according to the Election Commission norms, one cannot block main roads and disrupt traffic in the process.

Andhra Governor asked to appear before HC in paternity case
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked Andhra Pradesh Governor ND Tiwari, who is in the thick of a legal battle initiated by a 29-year-old man claiming to be his son, to appear before it on December 16. The High Court refused to exempt Tiwari from personal appearance, saying that it was a family matter and he is "not above the law".
The Court passed the order on a suit filed by Rohit Shekhar, grandson of former Union Minister Sher Singh, claiming that he was born out of a relationship between Tiwari and his mother Ujjwala Singh who is also associated with Congress Party. The 85-year-old Governor has rubbished the claim. When contacted, there was no immediate response from Tiwari's press officer in Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad. This is the first of its kind case where a Governor has been asked to appear in person for in chamber hearing before a High Court. "In view of the fact that present suit 'purports' to be a family matter, the parties are directed to be present on December 16 at 3 PM," Justice Reva Khetrapal said. Tiwari's counsel contended that Rohit was born on February 15, 1979 and the certificate issued by AIIMS says that Ujwala's husband is the father.

<b>Religious dyarchy threatens Hindu polity
</b>

Sandhya Jain
27 December 2008

The Pioneer yesterday carried a photograph of Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu being solemnly blessed in a Hyderabad church by Archbishop M. Joji. The natal families of the TDP boss and his wife, daughter of late Chief Minister and TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao, have hitherto had an unbroken Hindu lineage. Hence Dr. Naidu's sudden decision to invoke the blessings of the Archbishop on Christmas Day arouses deep misgivings.

To begin with, it is a new perversion in Indian politics. Far from being an expression of respect for all religions, it makes a mockery of faith for a man or woman professing (and practicing) one faith from birth, to suddenly start joining in the religious traditions of another. This is particularly so when adherence to this 'new' cult involves rejecting all other traditions and forms of worship.

Hitherto, Hindus have greeted other communities on their respective festivals, sharing 'sevaiyan' on Id with Muslim friends and respecting spaces like dargahs and pirs. Hindus have not felt called upon to observe the Bakr Id (nor were they expected to); nor it is possible for them to undertake Hajj. At Iftaar parties which are becoming a political tradition, non-Muslims do not join the communal prayers (at least so far!) Similarly, Hindus with Christian friends shared Easter and Christmas parties, and these exchanges did not cross boundaries to involve participation in the religious rites of another tradition.

Hence Dr. Naidu's decision to seek and be photographed receiving the Archbishop's blessings in church on Christmas day is a sharp departure from the practice of sending greetings to Christian brothers and sisters. It is disturbing because it brings an already heavily political Christian clergy directly into Andhra politics; it also apparently confirms persistent rumours of the secret conversion of close members of his family some years ago. If such conversions are true, they should be made public forthwith, and the reasons for keeping them secret revealed.

Worse, this opens the door for the further influx of Western-Christian funds into the state, with grim consequences for the Hindu community. Already, among all Indian regional Diasporas in America, the Andhra diaspora is the most active in trying to entrench foreign citizens as legitimate stakeholders in India - in the best interests of America, of course. This new-rich class is arrogant and cocksure, and I personally have no doubt that these attitudes are behind the otherwise inexplicable murders of bright Andhra students in the United States.

Simultaneously in Chennai, AIADMK general secretary Ms. Jayalalithaa also celebrated Christmas at her Poes Garden residence. It was no ordinary cake-and-tea-and-mistletoe party for Christian friends and party workers - they should anyway have been at home or with their community.
No, Ms. Jayalalithaa organised a proper Christian service, with Rev Raja Prabhakaran leading the prayer, followed by Churchill Joseph reciting from the Holy Bible. Then the choir troupe Christ of Every Soul sang special Christmas songs, and in the end, Bishop Samuel Sudhakar drew the curtains [http://www.deccanchronicle.com/chennaich...tynews.asp]
Why would a Hindu lady organise a Christian service at her home, and why would Christian priests agree to leave their own church and conduct a service at the residence of a non-believer? The question deserves an answer, especially as whispers have not yet died down about the complicity of certain nations and faith communities (with the complicity of the native Mir Jaffar's and Benedict Arnold's) in the tragedy that struck the Kanchi Matham in November 2004.
It is truly shocking that even the colossal tsunami that followed this heartrending depravity has not brought moderation to the lady's antics. Perhaps she is too deeply compromised to withdraw from paths laid out for her to walk - out of the gates of Dharma and into the deep. The Mahabharata is full of stories of rulers who brought about the ruination of their people.
Foreign funds are now a real threat to the sovereignty and integrity of India. In Tamil Nadu, four NGOs ranked among the top 25 recipients of foreign funds in 2006-07, and foreign funding of NGOs itself rose a colossal 56%. This is deeply unsettling and calls for a complete political scrutiny of the organisations towards which the funds are diverted; the districts in which they operate; and the connection (if any) between the presence of foreign-funded NGOs and rise in conversions or Naxal activities.

Tamil Nadu alone received Rs. 2244.25 crore, making it the highest recipient state (nearly 20% of the all-India receipts) in 2006-2007. According to the recent report of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, World Vision, India (an evangelical body that was involved in the recent unrest in Orissa) got Rs. 256.06 crore; the Board for Integrated Rural Development, Tiruvannamalai received Rs. 106.99 crore; the Society for Rural Education and Development, Arakkonam Rs. 106.92 crore and Om Sakthi Narayani Siddar Peedam Charitable Trust which administers the Golden Temple at Sripuram, Vellore, Rs 59.7 crore
[http://epaper.timesofindia.com/Daily/ski...0270935484]

The Vellore Golden Temple, with its sudden wealth and suddenly-arrived Swami, caused considerable misgivings in traditional Tamil society. Apart from the fact that the temple violates the Agamas in its obscene display of wealth, there has to be a larger, and political, purpose to directing such huge wealth from abroad towards a temple in Tamil Nadu.

Amidst whispers that LTTE cadres abroad were parking their wealth in India in this safe and open manner, came the astonishing revelation that on 16 April 2008, Mrs. Priyanka Vadra, daughter of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, used the temple for an illicit meeting with Nalini Sriharan, one of those convicted of the assassination!

Priyanka confirmed the meeting after it was leaked by Nalini's lawyers with a view to bring it on record, but jail authorities were at a loss to explain the illegal departure of Nalini from jail, without the knowledge of the court. As the DMK regime was complicit in arranging this highly irregular meeting, it simply covered up the matter.

Religious dyarchy - the overt practice of two faiths with the intent to undermine one - is the new and ugly mask of Indian secularism. Its purpose is to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India. Can India wake up to the challenge before it is too late?

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had spent the day with the Border Security Force on the Indo-Pak international border in Vighakot and Koteshwar Creek area on Thursday.

Modi examined the posts and fencing at Vighakot international border touching Pakistan, an official release said.

Arrangements would be made to ensure enough water for the soldiers in the Vighakot border area, Modi said, adding that he would recommend the Centre to provide telecommunication facilities in the border areas so that the soldiers can talk to their family frequently.

The chief minister announced 20 television sets and dish antennas to be provided by the state government for the soldiers.

Arrangements would also be made to provide electricity to soldiers from the 66 KW power plants in Vighakot, the release added.

Lets see whether Soren will resign or Soniawati will find some way to keep him floating.

Soren could always be made a Prime Minister or Cabinet Minister via the backdoor of Rajya Sabha - just like Manmohan Singh or Shivraj Patil who too like Soren had lost elections.

Sonia madam has more tricks in her purse than you bloggers can ever imagine <!--emo&Tongue--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo-->
