Muslims demand share in politics, jobs

"Reservation on basis of population"

# Resolution to this effect passed at the Maharashtra Muslim Convention
# Also demand reservation in the police, bureaucracy, local bodies and private institutions

Mumbai: Muslim groups on Sunday demanded reservations for the community in politics and jobs on the basis of population.

A resolution to this effect was passed at the Maharashtra Muslim Convention, hosted jointly by the All India Ulema Council and Mumbai Aman Committee, at the Anjuman-e-Islam near Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus here.

The resolution said that besides the Parliament, state assemblies and councils, representation on the basis of population must be given to Muslims in the police, bureaucracy, local bodies and private institutions.

All India Ulema Council President Maulana Zahiruddin Khan said the muslim community had not been given proper representation since Independence. .

Newly elected leader of the United Democratic Front Badruddin Kasmi said Muslims should not have a different political party. "It is not at all required. What is needed is that they should shake hands with the downtrodden, farmers, fisher folk and oppressed sections of society and demand proper representation. ," he added.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Vice President Riyaz Khan noted that the interim report of the Sachar Committee had pointed out that 90 per cent of Muslims have not benefited from various schemes launched by the central and state governments.

Renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Zillur Rehman Siddiqui said over 65 per cent of the Muslim population in the country lived below the poverty line. " We need to bridge this gap," he said.

Khoja Shia Asna Shari Jamaat president Safdar Karmali said Muslims were being specificially targeted.

Shia scholar Maulana Hasnain Kararvi pointed out that as per government records, the Muslim population was nearly 13 per cent, but the number of Muslims in the Indian Administrative Service was only two per cent. Mumbai Aman Committee general secretary Dawood Khan, All India Ulema Council general secretary Moulana Mehmood Daryabadi and Islamic scholars and intellectuals from the districts of Maharashtra were present.

Ahmedabad: Controversies and Gujarat seem to go hand in hand. It started with the Godhra riots, then it was the Vadodara riots and then it was the ban of Aamir Khan's film Fanaa over his comments on the Sardar Sarovar Project.

This time around, a storm is brewing up over an alleged case of conversion.

Twenty-three-year old Hetal Dave, a college student, went missing from Harsol village in Ahmedabad on April 22.

Also reported missing from the same village was a 25-year-old man, Allauddin, who works in a courier company.

Hetal used to study at the Gujarat Vidyapeeth where she was completing her MA. Both she and Allauddin used to take the same bus to college and work respectively.

On the last day of Hetal's exams, April 22, Alllauddin reportedly approached her and asked her to accompany him.

He took her to the Navtal masjid in Gheelkanta, Ahmedabad, where she and Allauddin were married in a nikah ceremony.

The ceremony was apparently conducted in the presence of an advocate, Naseer Ajmeri and the maulvi of the masjid Yusuf Mohammad Mossiddihiqi.

Hetal was also made to sign an affidavit after which she was whisked to Anand.

News soon reached Hetal's home about the marriage and the fact that she had reportedly converted to Islam.

However, Hetal's father, Praveen Dave, refused to believe that she had run away and got married.

He approached the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and with their help filed a police complaint saying that his daughter was robbed of all her jewellery, abducted by Allauddin and forcibly married.

A case was filed in the court but the girl could not be produced in court on both the dates that had been given for the case - May 7 and 14.

The VHP and the girl's parents then tried for an out of court settlement. allauddin's advocate demanded Rs 1 lakh to arrange a meeting between Hetal and her parents.

The amount was finally settled at Rs 5000 and Allauddin's advocate asked Praveen Dave to come to the Sarkhej Roza masjid is he wanted to meet his daughter.

Dave, alongwith the police and the VHP, reached the masjid. He says that the moment his daughter saw him, she shouted for help and asked him to rescue her from those who had abducted her.

Hetal spoke to the media later and said that she was forcibly married off to Allauddin and converted.

The President of the Dharam Prasar Division of the VHP, Babu Bajrangi, has said that he will approach Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, to come up with a law to prevent love marriages unless the girl's parents are not present.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
This is known as low level ethnic cleansing, done slowly to cleanse the area of Hindus. So much for Gujarat being Nazi Germany as far as Muslims are concerned, in reality no Jew would have dared to do anything even close to this in Nazi Germany and if he did I think we all know what would have happened to the entire Jewish community.

Ahmedabad, June 12: The wedding between a Hindu girl and a Muslim man in Gujarat has run into trouble after the girl claimed that she was "forced into the marriage and kept in confinement."

The girl, Hetal Dave, who had married Allauddin on April 22, returned to her parents’ house on June 7 after her parents approached the Gujarat high court, police officials probing the case said.

Both of them live in a village in Sabarkantha district but got married in Ahmedabad.

"I was forced into this wedding by Allauddin. He took me to a Masjid on some pretext and forced me into marriage", Dave said.

"When I protested, he threatened to kill my family members. After the Nikah I was taken to Anand, Surat and Vadodara. They did not allow me to communicate with my parents," Dave said.

Following the incident her parents had filed a police complaint and also approached a VHP functionary Babu Bajrangi who found out her whereabouts and claimed to have traced her out from the Sarkhej Roza mosque in Ahmedabad.

Bajrangi, who has in the past also claimed to have `rescued' Hindu girls who got married to Muslim men, said when contacted on the issue, "the girl was kept in a very bad condition. She was rescued on June 7 from Sarkhej Roza by VHP workers and the help of police."

Former world chess champion and then Fidé president Max Euwe had reportedly exclaimed, after being defeated by a Nepalese competitor in the late 1970s, "Alekhine lives in Nepal!" The homegrown chess master was Baburam Bhattarai, the Communist ideologue, and later a senior standing member of the politbureau of Communist Party of Nepal. Mr Bhattarai, who abandoned a promising career in chess to pursue politics, says chess is to Communists what water is to duck. According to him, Communists were chess cognoscenti.

It is, therefore, hardly surprisingly that we are today witnessing a great game of political chess in Nepal. Those who thought that ousting the monarchy was the objective of the Communists were obviously mistaken. Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, on his recent visit to New Delhi, admitted his Government was buckling under pressure from the Communists.

"Kerensky lives in Kathmandu" was my gut feeling about Mr Koirala, when King Gyanendra reinstated the dissolved Pratinidhi Sabha on April 25 last, and a day later appointed Mr Koirala as the Prime Minister. Alexander Fyodorovich Kerensky (1881-1970), the revolutionary who was instrumental in toppling the Czarist authority, served as Prime Minister of the Russian Provisional Government, until Bolsheviks took over power. Kerensky had to spend the remaining part of his life in exile until he died in the US.

Although the Bolsheviks disbanded the Constituent Assembly of the Kerensky Government, the Maoists of Nepal are apparently vouching for the same. On April 27, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists) declared a three-month unilateral truce with the new Government. Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal (alias Prachanda) said the truce was for facilitating the ongoing "people's struggle" for a Constituent Assembly and a democratic republic "to lead the struggle to a historic conclusion" and for encouraging the parliamentary political parties to announce the formation of a Constituent Assembly. The Maoists recently showed the clout they enjoy by forcing the suspension of the Pratinidhi Sabha until the Budget session in July; and getting the Government to release 190 jailed Maoists.

We had seen what kind of democracy there was in German Democratic Republic (East Germany) or the one that exists in Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). We also saw what kind of 'ceasefire' Maoists extended. On May 9, a group of Maoists abducted five personnel of armed force police from Bhumahi in Nawalparasi district. Leaders of the Seven-Party Alliance allege that the Maoists, in contravention to 12-point understanding, are continuing with extortion and atrocities. Nepali Congress legislator Devendra Raj Kandel, while addressing the Pratinidhi Sabha, said that Maoists had demanded Rs 100,000 from him and still issuing threats to his associates in the Maheshpur village in the Nawalparasi district for not paying the sum.

Last month, 12 private banks of Nepal received copies of a letter from Anant, the chief of the special central command of the CPN-M asking for a 'donation' of Rs 25,000,000. Over a dozen industries were shut down in Birganj after Maoist-affiliated All-Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF) began to assume more and more militant attitude. On May 22, the house of Nepali Congress leader from Rautahat district, Jogendra Sahani, was bombed and his two sons abducted, who were later killed by the Maoists. The Nepalese Government is now considering writing to the United Nations to get the ceasefire monitored.

The Maoists apparently want a Constituent Assembly poll - a choice between monarchy and republic. King Gyanendra is being stripped of his privileges, and it will be hardly surprising if he goes Czar Nicholas's way, as the Maoists gain power. Nepal has also lost its "Hindu" appellation. There is high probability of this being done at the behest of the ISI. The road to establish Asian caliphate, possibly under Osama bin Laden, runs through the Himalayan highway on which Hinduism's soft underbelly, Nepal, is located.

There is a suspicious paradox in the behaviour of the Maoists. They claim that monarchy is the enemy of peace in Nepal. Yet, even after divesting the monarch of virtually all his powers, the Maoists of Nepal are still active in Bihar threatening to blow up the State Assembly, Secretariat and official residence of the Chief Minister apart from other public property. Does this not betray their totalitarian agenda? Prachanda, like Lenin, might believe in giving a long rope to Mr Koirala, the modern Kerensky; only so that he hangs himself.

<b>If there is Bolshevism in Nepal, Wahabism is playing hide and seek in the Human Resource Development Ministry in New Delhi. When Mr Arjun Singh introduced 27 per cent reservation in institutes of higher learning, there were reasons to believe he was dividing Hindu society. His 'de-toxification' of history text-books, Rs 48 crore grant to Jamia Millia Islamia to set up the Jawaharlal Nehru West Asia Study Centre, preservation of 'minority' character of Aligarh Muslim University, five per cent reservation to Muslims in jobs and services, proposal to affiliate madarsas to universities were all evidence of where his heart lay. Now it has come out into the open after he spent nine days in Saudi Arabia and UAE to forge "academic ties between Arab countries and India".</b>

Mr Arjun Singh's visit to King Abdul Aziz University, which has exported Wahabism throughout the world in the last two decades, confirms the worst suspicius about him. The $30 million grant by the House of Saud to build a state-of-the-art library in Jamia is galling. The 'Arab Cultural Centre', proposed to be established at Jamia, at the cost of UGC, is no naïve decision. The emphasis would be on Saudi Arabia, not Algeria, Egypt, Syria or Jordan. All over the world, people are studying Saudi Arabia, the hub of Wahabi Islam, for security and strategic reasons. But Mr Singh wants it to be studied culturally. No non-Muslim of India has any interest in studying Saudi Arabia thus. Easy to guess, we would soon become another Islamist bastion.

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>'Secularism' is slowly reshaping the landscape of India in an 'Islamist' way. Mr Singh's decision vis-à-vis reservation is not a simple boil but cancer. I wish the "Youth for Equality" realised the same. Perhaps Mr Singh is leading the second Wahabi movement, like Shah Waliullah's son Shah Abdul Aziz, whose purpose was to restore Islamic rule in India. </span>

<b>Islamic Man beheads sister, parades head around village</b><!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->BANGALORE: The villagers of S Bingipura began the day with a blood-curdling sight on Monday: <b>a man walking through the village carrying the severed head of his sister.</b>

The ghastly incident took place around 25 km from Bangalore city near Bannerghatta. Police said that Syed Hyder Sab alias Iqbal (55) and his sister Noorjahan (60) had a dispute over sharing an acre and 28 guntas of family property and they had filed civil suits in this connection.

According to the police, the rains had brought down an eucalyptus tree on the property which was under dispute. On Monday morning, Hyder Sab went there and began chopping the tree into pieces.

Noorjahan rushed there on learning about it and did not allow him to take away the tree, claiming that it belonged to her. Apparently, Hyder Sab argued that the court's ruling was in his favour.

“She began shouting for her children and threatened to kill him. At that time, Hyder Sab pushed her down near a tree and chopped off her head,” a police officer said.

Then he paraded the head for a little distance and returned to the property where he sat, chopper in hand, till the Bannerghatta police arrived there and took him into their custody. Shocked and frightened, the villagers had dared not approach him, police said.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The 'moderate' islamic voice asks muslim soldiers not to fight against pakistan

Fighting Against Muslim Armies

Q. What is the responsibility of Muslim soldiers and officers who are with the army of a country where Muslims are only a small minority if their country is in war with a Muslim country?

A. The rule is that one must never face other Muslims in war. The Prophet (Pbuh) says: “When two Muslims face each other with their swords drawn out, both the killer and the killed are in hell.” His companions asked him: “We understand why this applies to the killer, but what about the one who is killed?” The Prophet said: “He was just as keen to kill his opponent.” Needless to say, all efforts should be made to avoid war, but sometimes war is unavoidable. Moreover, there are cases where one party is fighting for justice and is clearly right in its stand. Fighting for that party defending the right and justice is legitimate, even though there are Muslims on the other side. As for other cases when the situation is blurred, one must do his utmost to avoid being party to such a war. One may assert to the authorities in his country that he is a conscientious objector. In some situations, this is enough to assign him to non-combat duties.

By Sandhya Jain
If the UPA’s foreign-born leadership did not have a seriously divisive agenda for India, for which the Muslim community is being used as an instrument, there would be no need to set up two committees to specifically survey the status of Muslims in the country.

<b>Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s remark that the “under-representation” of Muslims in public employment and public life is “unacceptable” is a classic example of the irresponsible brinksmanship that characterises her public life</b>. Inaugurating the India Islamic Cultural Centre in Delhi recently, Smt Gandhi tacitly held Hindu society responsible for the Muslim community’s failure to take advantage of the religious, cultural and educational rights and opportunities afforded to them by the Constitution. The poor development of a majority of Muslims, she said, is a matter of equity and social justice.

The UPA chairperson expressed concern over Muslim under-representation in society. Given the Congress propensity to secretly plan and then ram reservations down the throat of a resentful nation, one fears this could lead to another round of divisive reservations in Parliamentary and Assembly seats, this time on religious grounds. The suspicion is justified by the manner in which Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Samuel Reddy tried to impose five per cent reservation in Government employment for Muslims, though this was mercifully struck down by the courts.

The spectre of political reservations for Muslims is now seriously facing the country, and other political parties would do well to wake up to this threat before it becomes fait accompli. The results can only be on the lines of what communal electorates under the British achieved earlier, viz, the vivisection of the land. If the UPA’s foreign-born leadership did not have a seriously divisive agenda for India, for which the Muslim community is being used as an instrument, there would be no need to set up two committees to specifically survey the status of Muslims in the country. The Sachar Committee set up by the Prime Minister to study social, economic and educational status of Muslims has generated grave misgivings for trying to bully the armed forces prepare a communal census of the troops. Now, the Planning Commission is preparing special inputs for the minorities in the Eleventh Plan. These half-baked religion-specific schemes bode ill for India.

Politically, it is understandable that the Congress President should lure the Muslim community with baits of reservations in elected bodies. The ability of Muslim candidates to get elected from general constituencies has declined steadily since the early decades of Independence, as a popular reaction to the operation of secularism as an anti-Hindu force in the political arena. Due to en bloc voting, Muslims have been able to ensure the victory of ‘secular’ parties in the first-past-the-post system of elections, and defeat parties inimical to their political agenda.

However, <b>the Italian-born Sonia Gandhi’s elevation in the polity has inspired Muslims to shed their inhibitions and pursue their political agenda openly. Muslims are no longer content to operate through secular political outfits, and this will impact upon the political vote base of all parties that have hitherto relied upon a core Muslim vote for their electoral strength.</b> The Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid has launched a second Muslim political party in the populous Uttar Pradesh, to demand a separate package for Muslims and their inclusion in the OBC quota. Syed Ahmed Bukhari’s rejection of the Muslim front launched by Lucknow’s Shia Muslims a month ago is no doubt consistent with rising Shia-Sunni tensions in the international Ummah.

Bukhari has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding a separate package for Muslims; he also wants reservation benefits. Political observers believe that the recent Sunni Muslim assertiveness is inspired by the success of Maulana Badruddin Ajmal’s new party in Assam, but it is possible that Ajmal’s boldness was inspired by international forces determined to overwhelm India through demographic aggression. Short-sighted political parties are meanwhile continuing to play the minority card when it has outlived the period in which it could be safely utilised. The recent Kerala elections saw the CPM-led Left Democratic Front espousing the cause of Abdul Nasser Madani, the principal accused in the Coimbatore blasts that killed over 50 persons. Congress brought out its poll posters in Arabic.

It is too early to predict what will happen in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections next year. But the presence of two Muslim denominational parties will certainly impact upon the fortunes of all other parties. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who has sustained himself in power on the basis of the Muslim-Yadav combination, will be the first to be in trouble. This fragmentation of the polity on religious lines is a corollary of Sonia Gandhi’s ascension in the Congress, and her assiduous promotion of Christians within the party. As the country’s largest, and hitherto most pampered, religious minority, Muslims feel the need for a greater assertiveness for commensurate benefits. This can only have a negative impact on the nation’s territorial integrity.

<b>For the first time after Partition, in important Hindu-dominant states (first Assam, now UP), the Muslim community has decided to shun non-Muslim communities and parties and chart its own course. This suggests that the emerging political persona of the Muslim community will absorb both the “moderate Muslim” as well as the hardline clerics who control the populace</b>. It is not yet clear how this will play out in a state where there are many major players, viz., BSP, BJP, Congress and of course, the SP. But in Assam, the fledging party of Ajmal caused Congress to loose as much as 11 percent of its vote. The Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) secured 8.07 per cent of the vote and won 10 seats. It came second in 13 and third in 14 Assembly seats. A communal realignment of the nation is clearly underway.

ASSOCIATION OF INDIAN MUSLIMS OF AMERICA
P O Box 10654, Silver Spring, MD 20914
Memorandum to Honorable Vylar Ravi, Minister for Overseas Indians,
Government of India.

Issue:
How we Indian Muslims in U.S. can contribute to:
<b>(a) the continuation of fast rate of growth of the Indian economy and,
(b) the improvement in the educational status of Muslims to prepare to meet
the challenges of 21st century and the requirements of the rapidly growing
Indian economy.</b>

. Indian Muslims in America are proud of India's economic achievements. The high rate of economic growth with democratic system of governance is unparalleled in history. India's advancement in science and technology and highly educated manpower are also contributing to the global economy. Much of India's progress can be attributed to the pool of educated manpower that is at the cutting edge of knowledge in the world. These are of course a small proportion of India's large pool of manpower and many from poverty stricken areas are left out. Only very few Muslims are able to take advantage of it.

. The current situation of Muslims with respect to education is pitiful.
About half the Muslims are literate and the proportion is much lower among Muslim women (11%)... Less than one of every 10 teen agers goes to school. One in four adult Muslim women works. They are a minority within minority. Only about 4% of the examinees in class 10 are Muslims. Their representation  in higher level technical and professional education is more limited. Muslims are not even in large businesses. Due to lack of qualification they are not well represented in the corporate sector. Muslims are starting with a very low base and have a long way to go. India cannot become a super power  with a vast majority of people (Muslims) having no education or little irrelevant education.

. AIM appreciated the recognition of the above problems by the
Government of India. The Prime Minister has rightly formed a High Level Committee to report on the Economic and Educational Status of India's Muslim Community.
AIM is waiting for the results of the Committee's deliberation and a plan for the implementation of the recommendations of this Committee. AIM would like to help the Government in raising the economic and educational status of Muslims in India so that they can be equal partners in India's quest to become a super power. We would like to seek your advice as to how you think the NRIs in US can help in this effort.

. AIM also appreciates the efforts currently being made by Muslims and other organizations in improving the status of Muslims especially in education. However, you will agree that bold, innovative and large scale measures are needed to reduce the gnawing gap between the current situation and the rapidly growing requirements of the Indian economy. A few areas needing special attention are:

o Implementation of the recommendations of the Committee in a speedy
manner. AIM would like to comment on the Committee report and be partner with the Government in these efforts to the extent it can.
o AIM could develop a common framework for actions taking the findings of the Committee into account so that a number of agencies/organizations can take coordinated and concerted actions.
o Help expand educational opportunities and employment of Muslim women especially in most depressed areas.
o Improve the quality of traditional craft in which <b>Muslim men and women are engaged to compete in the global economy and find foreign market.</b>
o Help Government select the best from among young Muslim students for <b>providing special opportunities (financial support and coaching) to go to higher education, especially to compete for IITs, IIMs, IIScs and other universities</b>. There are good examples of it.
o <b>Improve the quality of education in Madarsas </b>by intensive training of trainers. There are best practices in this respect and could be expanded to other areas.
o Involve the private sector to pay special attention to Muslim education and employment.
<b>o Provide reservation for Muslim students in technical and professional higher education institutions for a few years, to help the community recover from its extraordinary backwardness in these areas.</b>

. AIM would like to have recognition and be provided with counterpart institutions and responsible officials in the Government of India, for implementing the above action items for the educational uplift of India's Muslim community.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->Friends,
I find Navin Surabenini's below article that Sayan forwarded meaningful.

<b>The horribly oppression and exploitation of Muslim countries and Muslim people across the board by the US Govt on behalf of the US military-industrial-big business class has created a sustained wave in the Muslim mind everywhere against this crass exploitation.

In India that resulted in unprecedented protest rallies during the visit of President Bush to India. By opposing the UPA Govt's policy to buckle under US pressure and stab its long time friend - Iran - in the back, the Left for once demonstrated solidarity with the <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>oppressed Muslims in things other than just communal riots</span></b>.

This dovetailing of Muslim and Left interest was no coincidence. The Muslim community understands the double game and lip service and exploitation by Congress party too well. But earlier Left never really gave Muslims enough reasons to ally with them. For instance the Left Govt in Bengal did not do enough to remove the impoverishment and backwardness of Bengal's Muslim population.

Now at least in Bengal and Kerala Muslim voters have decided to give a chance to the Left to prove its sincerity towards Muslims. In Kerala they even turned away from Muslim League because Muslim League became a hand-maiden of Congress and acquired five star culture.

If Left can prove its sincerity towards poor Muslims by focusing on their uplift from impoverishment/ educational backwardness in Bengal, it is very likely that in the 2008 parliamentary election Muslim parties in UP and Assam together with their votes in Bengal and Kerala and elsewhere can help Left form a third front govt at the Center, headed by Left. Navin is right in saying that with BJP having endless troubles of its own its threat on the national scene is reduced.

Left has to help the poor Muslims climb out of impoverishment and not focus negatively on their desire to practice their religion. (This does not mean that the oppressive/obscurantist practices of obscurantist Mullas should be allowed.)

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Vadodara to Bhiwandi </b>
Balbir K Punj
If anyone throws stones at policemen, we will answer them with bullets." That was no Narendra 'Milosevic' Modi defending Gujarat Police for firing that resulted in the death of two Muslims in Vadodara. That was Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister cum Home Minister RR Patil defending his State police for shooting down two Muslim rioters in Bhiwandi. The Government in question is not the 'communal' BJP; it is the 'secular' Democratic Front (Congress and NCP).

Yet, there are striking parallels between what happened in Bhiwandi recently and what had happened in Vadodara in May last. At Vadodara, a dargah that obstructed a busy road was sought to be dismantled by the municipal corporation under orders of the Gujarat High Court. The court had ordered to pull down or relocate 1,200 Hindu and Jain temples and 260 Muslim shrines. By the time Vadodara erupted, 42 temples and three Muslim shrines had already been pulled down without resistance. But Muslim anti-social elements supported by 'secularists' were hell bent upon fomenting trouble at the earliest.

At Bhiwandi, the town of power-looms in north-eastern Maharashtra, it was regarding the construction of a police station near Quarter Gate mosque in Nizampur area. While everybody appreciates the value of a police station nearby for reasons of ensuring law and order, Muslims of Nizampur evidently did not. Their argument was that the land belonged to them. The local Raza Academy and Qabristan Committee claim the land to be theirs. The land, nominally a graveyard, is actually disputed. Symbolic of this contention is the fact that no burial takes place in that graveyard. Maharashtra Police has always claimed the land to be theirs, emphasising the urgency to construct a police station there.

Police Commissioner of Thane D Sivanandan informed the media that the land in question was a police property since 1920. But Raza Academy moved to court saying that the land was a Wakf property. The court verdict went in favour of the police and against Raza Academy. Yet, Congress Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh dithered to go ahead when <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Dalit political outfit Bhim Shakti petitioned him saying that the land belonged to the Wakf board. </span> <i> [oh he is very active in very infamous forum, along with whoes and who of all rapid Hindu hater]</i> He decided to go ahead in favour of the police station when DGP, Maharashtra furnished documentary evidence that the land was a public property belonging to the PWD.

On Wednesday July 5 as the construction started, a Muslim mob gathered to protest against the works. The site was attacked by the mob. According to local police sources, some mobsters fired four rounds at the police from foreign-made pistols. The police opened 28 rounds of fire that killed two Muslims - Mohammed Ramzan (20) and Malik Abdul Khalik (50). But nemesis caught up with the police that night. <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Two police constables Ramesh Jagtap and Bala Gangurde who were deployed on the Rajiv Gandhi flyover nearby were brutally stoned by a Muslim mob and their skulls were broken open. The frenzied rioters reportedly also stabbed them and burnt their bodies. </span>A total of 35 people, mostly policemen, were hurt in the violence.

The violence has effectively stalled the construction. The Maharashtra Government, sensing more trouble at the funeral of two dead Muslims, deployed 800 local cops, eight companies of the State Reserve Police Force and two of the Rapid Action Force, who ensured the funeral passed off peacefully.

Bhiwandi follows the predictable path of Vadodara. <b>In both the places, a particular faith undermines the authority of law enforcers. In Vadodara on May 1, when the officials of the Municipal Corporation arrived to demolish the dargah and reclaim the land as public property, a Muslim mob attacked them with stones. The officials had been given police protection, but mobsters pelted stones on the police as well. The mob stabbed to death two innocent Hindu passers-by, attacked the local court and hospital creating mayhem. When the police opened fire in self-defence, two mobsters succumbed to the bullets. On the night of May 3, a mob attacked the Navapura police station and burnt down a bakery in Khanderao Mark</b>et.

In Bhiwandi, the police have directly been under assault of Muslim mobs. Revenge was taken on the police at night. <b>Interestingly, Maharashtra is not ruled by BJP-Shiv Sena but the Congress-NCP combine, which has denied professional 'secularists' a 'communal carnage' demonstration opportunity</b>. <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>Hence no fact-finding team of Shabnam Hashmi of Anhad, Harsh Mander and Prasad Chock might visit Bhiwandi, unlike Vadodara, to label the death of two Muslims an act of Hindutva politics. Nor will Teesta Setalvad surface in news for the time being.</span> <i> [so sad, they missed those 7 trains]</i> Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil who said that miscreants, irrespective of their religion, would be severely penalised, should be complimented. Prompted by the BJP-Sena Opposition, a probe has been assured against Samajwadi Party MP Abu Asim Azmi.

Equally commendable is Mr Patil's statement that the police, having documentary evidence in their favour, would go ahead with the construction unless somebody could prove it is a Wakf property. One remembers how in the past more than one 'secular' Chief Minister of neighbouring Karnataka had tried to stall Republic and Independence Day celebrations in a public ground in Hubli saying it was a Wakf property though the court had rejected that claim. In 2004, Congress Chief Minister Dharam Singh got Ms Uma Bharati arrested for hoisting flag on that ground more than 10 years ago. This is how 'secularists' have undermined the secular majesty of law and emboldened communalists.

<b>Thanks to such encouraging gestures from secularists, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and hundreds of monuments from the Muslim era are being claimed as Wakf properties</b>. One remembers how in 1993 Muslim organisations of Mumbai used to conduct mass namaz on streets and neighbourhoods creating a civic nuisance for Mumbaikars. It was only on the VHP starting a maha-arti as a counter - joined by tens of thousands of ordinary Hindus - that Muslim organisations discontinued their super-namaz. The Anti-Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra Police is working overtime to solve the case of large RDX, weaponry and ammunition haul in Nasik, Aurangabad and Malegaon last May.

The role of LeT and Bangladeshi connections have come to light. As recently as June 28, Maharashtra Police seized a large quantity of explosives and arrested seven suspects from the Akluj town, in Solapur district. Maharashtra exemplifies that the entire rashtra (nation), with its 'secularism' and all, is experiencing a grave threat from Islamic assertiveness.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

www.zeenews.com/articles....d=NAT&ssid

The Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) is a banned Islamic fundamentalist organization, which advocates the ‘liberation of India’ by converting it to an Islamic land. SIMI has declared Jehad against India, the aim of which is to establish Dar-ul-Islam (land of Islam) by either forcefully converting everyone to Islam or by violence.

SIMI was formed at Aligarh in the State of Uttar Pradesh on April 25, 1977. Mohammad Ahmadullah Siddiqi, Professor of Journalism and Public Relations at the Western Illinois University Macomb, Illinois, was the founding President of the outfit. It originally emerged as an offshoot of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.

The outfit is known to have adopted an extremist and militant posture on various issues of concern to the Muslim community.

According to the SIMI, Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden is an outstanding example of a true Mujahid, who has undertaken Jehad on behalf of the `Ummah`.

Dr Shahid Badar Falah functioned as the national president and Safdar Nagori as the secretary-general till the organization was proscribed under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2002.

SIMI reportedly secures generous financial assistance from the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), Riyadh, and also maintains close links with the International Islamic Federation of Students` Organizations (IIFSO) in Kuwait.

The Chicago-based Consultative Committee of Indian Muslims is also reported to have supported SIMI morally and financially.

The SIMI also has links with the Jamaat-e-Islam (JeI) units in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal and with the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) and the ISI. Certain SIMI leaders are reported to have had close links with Pakistan-based terrorist groups such as the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The outfit is currently regarded as having a national presence with strong bases in the States of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra (Aurangabad, Malegaon, Jalgaon and Thane), Andhra Pradesh and Assam.

It reportedly has a strong base in various universities in these States. SIMI is also believed to enjoy the support of a large section of the Muslim populace in cities such as Kanpur, Rampur, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Lucknow and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh.

Express News ServicePosted online: Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at 0000 hrs Print  Email

• New Delhi: A delegation of prominent Muslims led by Syed Shahabuddin has urged Congress president Sonia Gandhi to take steps to address the issue of the ‘‘whole Muslim community being targeted’’ in the wake of the Mumbai blasts. They have also expressed their reservations on the move to provide bullet-proof security at the disputed structure in Ayodhya, saying it was against the Supreme Court order. The delegation comprised Dr A H Ansari, president of Jamait-e Islami Hind and Dr Q R Ilyas, spokesperson of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board among others. ‘‘In the wake of the Mumbai blasts, there is an unfair targeting of one community. There is a biased campaign even in the media. But the Government is not doing anything to change it,’’ Ilyas told The Indian Express after the meeting Sonia Gandhi. The delegation members said Sonia Gandhi has assured them that she would take up the matter with the Home Minister and the Prime Minister. The delegation also urged the Congress president to speed up the passing of Communal Violence Bill, after consulting all the notified minorities on the issue.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>SIMI in Kerala</b>
Thursday, July 20, 2006 08:22:31 pm
In TIMES NOW's possession is an exclusive copy of a document, an affidavit submitted by the Kerala police on May 30. 2006 to the Delhi High Court which chronicles how a banned militant outfit seems to be openly thriving in Kerala.

According to the document, the student outfit Students' Islamic Movement of India or SIMI, banned since 2001, is re-grouping under the banner of 12 organisations in the state.

<b>SIMI's growing network</b>
SIMI has, the document states, regrouped under the banner of 12
organisations, including the following:SIMI IN KERALA
<b>▪ The NDF
▪ Islamic Youth Centre
▪ Karuna Foundation
▪ Solidarity Students Movement</b>
All these are headed by former SIMI heads.

These groups together have spread their tentacles across the state, from capital Thiruvananthapuram to Calicut, Kannur and Malapuram.

The report says- "SIMI is re-grouping and mobilisng. Most SIMI members are still holding extremist and exclusivist religious ideals and they join various other organisations...."

In fact TIMES NOW learns that there is a top-secret report by the Home Ministry which indicates that top SIMI leaders in Kerala held fund-raising meetings with international organizations like World Assembly of Muslim Youth.

All this is denied by leaders of these organizations, who claim this is a witch-hunt.

"There are some leaders in NDF who were ex-SIMI activists. But they were in SIMI some 10 or 15 years ago. There is not even one person from SIMI after it was banned, who has joined us," said NDF state president A Sayeed.

"These are wrong allegations. As far as we know, SIMI has stopped functioning in this country. There is no organisation in Kerala that will allow SIMI members to function with them," said Solidarity Students Organisation General Secretary Mujeeb-ur-Rehman.

<b>Indoctrinating youth</b>
The building housing the office of the Solidarity Youth Movement in Kerala's capital
But what do these organisations do? According to Intelligence sources, they are accused of indoctrinating and perhaps more importantly, organising funds through hawala transactions. And their biggest source of money is the huge malayali work force in the middle east.

TIMES NOW learns that after the Mumbai blasts, the police is investigating the export-import deals done by former members of SIMI and their present organisations.

However, when the TIMES NOW team approached the state and central intelligence bureaus, they refused to comment on camera.

The affidavit submitted by the Kerala police's intelligence wing states that SIMI has organised meetings all over the state, for instance, in the Chintavalappu area in Kozhikode where some such meetings are suspected to have been held. The very fact the members of a banned organisation are meeting so freely, points to the fact that both central and state authorities have failed to curb them.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin--><b>Rise above ummah victimhood</b>
Swapan Dasgupta
The Pioneer
July 23, 2006

What do you say to a Prime Minister who, a few days after ruling out the re-introduction of a POTA-like legislation, admits to a meeting of Chief Secretaries that our response to terrorism has been "inadequate"? Should we praise Manmohan Singh for realising the truth? Alternatively, <b>should we pillory him for abdicating one of the prime responsibilities of government-the protection of the citizen?</b>

Since the serial blasts in Mumbai on July 11, the Government has been conducting itself like a headless chicken. Having flaunted a ritualistic G-8 condemnation of the bombings as a spectacular diplomatic triumph, it went into a tailspin after the world leaders greeted the charge of the ubiquitous Pakistani hand with more than a measure of scepticism. To cap it all, the country had to be subjected to the cocky insolence of President Pervez Musharraf demanding "proof" of Pakistan's involvement. Having put the "peace process" on hold before embarking for St. Petersburg, Manmohan Singh returned a mellowed man.

Nor have things been any better on the domestic front. First, there was the outrageous insinuation by Human Resource Development Minister <b>Arjun Singh that Hindu groups had a habit of committing atrocities and blaming the "other"</b>.

The theme was <b>gratefully echoed by loose cannons like the Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid and the redoubtable general secretary of the West Bengal CP (M) Biman Bose</b>. The Shahi Imam was addressing his congregation after Friday prayers and Bose was addressing a Milli Council meeting in Kolkata. Like good secularists they felt that a convenient way of averting awkward questions of culpability is to turn victimhood on its head, even if it means whitewashing murderers. <b>Second, there were desperate attempts to deflect attention from the Government's own failings by attacking Narendra Modi for what he did not say in Mumbai last week and Jaswant Singh for what he did not do in Kandahar seven years ago.</b>

Finally, in an act that <b>straddled a twilight zone between stupidity and lunacy, the Government decided to ape totalitarian China and block access to blogsites.</b> Reuters quoted Gulshan Rai, director of the Government-run Indian Computer Emergency Response Team justifying the ban because "the blogs are pitting Muslim against non-Muslim."

The Government's disorientation is not the result of some Inspector Clouseau being at the helm. It is a consequence of its inability to face up to the political ramifications of the Mumbai blasts. The investigations may not have produced concrete results as yet but they definitely point to the involvement of home-grown Muslim terrorists.

This comes as no surprise. The March 1993 blasts were also the handiwork of home-grown terrorists, many of whom subsequently fled to Pakistan, as were the Ghatkopar and Gateway of India bombings in 2003. The 1993 and 2003 blasts were attributed to retaliation for the Mumbai and Gujarat riots respectively. What was the July 11 carnage meant to convey? That jihadis have the ability and technology to bleed India to death?

Since no group has yet claimed responsibility, the motives are still a matter of conjecture. However, the portents from the Varanasi bombings, the RDX haul from Ellora and the foiled fidayeen attacks on Ayodhya and the RSS headquarters in Nagpur are ominous. Despite official attempts to point accusing fingers at foreign paratroopers, all these incidents involved Indian jihadis. In other words, while there may be an overseas command centre of global jihad - maybe located in Pakistan - the war is actually being conducted by fiercely motivated locals.

<b>The leadership of the Indian Muslim community can no longer take refuge in denial. Nor is there any percentage in appealing to Sonia Gandhi to stop racial profiling by the police. After Mumbai, the community bears a collective responsibility for isolating and hounding out the radicals. For this to happen, it is incumbent that Indian Muslims dissociate completely from pan-Islamism. A clutch of half-baked and fanciful theories of ummah victimhood in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, et al, are responsible for turning gullible youth into monstrous killers.</b><!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
