Hauma: Would be nice to have a thread in the Culture forum about all Indian festivals and rites. Haven't heard about this particular rite - would love to hear more about it.
I'm all for rites where snacks replace regular dinner stuff. I have my own personal one (if it counts <img src='http://www.india-forum.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> ) - I eat only dahi(curd/yogurt) vaDas for dinner now and then.
Let's not forget vada-pav - a typical Mumbai favorite.
