A comprehensive bill approved by the Union Cabinet on Thursday defines "domestic violence" in detail which will include actual abuse or the threat of abuse that is physical, sexual, verbal, emotional or economic.
Harassment by way of unlawful dowry demands to the woman or her relatives would also be covered under this definition of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Bill, 2005.
The Bill, which fills a void in the existing legal framework, seeks to provide effective protection and remedy to women against domestic violence, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said after the cabinet meeting here, adding that the Criminal Procedure Code did not adequately protect the women who are meted out such treatment<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd--> <!--emo&:thumbdown--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Worst law, one sided law, 95% abused by educated woman of India. Law should give equal rights not privlidge to one based on sex.
This law will break Hindu marriage.
