Welcome to the South Asia Institute...
The region of South Asia â which includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bhutan, and the Maldives â is becoming increasingly influential in the global marketplace in terms of culture, economics and politics. The University of Texas at Austin, having assembled one of the most distinguished South Asia programs in the country, has made a university-wide commitment to making this region a center of excellence in international studies. It created the South Asia Institute to foster understanding and exchange with this part of the world.
The College of Liberal Arts currently awards seven degrees in South Asian studies: B.A. and M.A. in Asian Studies; B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Asian Cultures and Languages; and two dual M.A. degrees with the McCombs School of Business and the LBJ School of Public Affairs.
