I have >1000 bad things about Nehru. At the same time I have positive things about him too.
Let me list positive things about Nehru here:
* Institutionalizing Indian democracy. At the time of Indian independence, India was the only democratic country in Asia. (I think Japan and Israel became democracies later. correct me if I'm wrong.). That too in a country under turmoil of partition, riots, war in Kashmir, princely states trying to be independent. We should thank him for this great service to India, that India did not go Pakistan way.
* Linguistic based partition of Indian states. This ensured that no state felt that their culture is being dominated by other people. Let's keep away Dravidian anti-Hindi arguments since the real reason for that is different.
* Vision of a scientific India. All scientific research labs including ISRO, Atomic energy commission, IITs and IIMs.
* Putting military under total control of civilian government.
* He was a staunch nationalist. I did not hesitate to invite RSS for 1963 Republic Day parade for their services during China war.
