As of now, no member of the Senate has opposed the proposed legislation. However, 18 members of the House of 435 have expressed opposition by tabling or co-sponsoring a resolution against the nuclear agreement.
These 18 members are:
Rep Abercrombie, Neil [HI-1] - 3/8/2006
Rep Conyers, John, Jr. [MI-14] - 3/16/2006
Rep Farr, Sam [CA-17] - 2/14/2006
Rep Frank, Barney [MA-4] - 3/16/2006
Rep Grijalva, Raul M. [AZ-7] - 2/28/2006
Rep Jackson-Lee, Sheila [TX-18] - 3/8/2006
Rep Kucinich, Dennis J. [OH-10] - 2/7/2006
Rep McGovern, James P. [MA-3] - 2/7/2006
Rep Meehan, Martin T. [MA-5] - 2/14/2006
Rep Nadler, Jerrold [NY-8] - 3/16/2006
Rep Neal, Richard E. [MA-2] - 3/16/2006
Rep Olver, John W. [MA-1] - 3/16/2006
Rep Payne, Donald M. [NJ-10] - 3/14/2006
Rep Rothman, Steven R. [NJ-9] - 3/13/2006
Rep Stark, Fortney Pete [CA-13] - 3/2/2006
Rep Upton, Fred [MI-6] - 12/15/2005
Rep Woolsey, Lynn C. [CA-6] - 3/2/2006
Only one of the above 18 is a member of the HIRC -- Rep Donald Payne.
All except one -- Fred Upton -- are Democrats. And a majority -- 10 of the 18 -- are members of the so-called India Caucus . (Has the time come to wind up the India Caucus, or else, enforce stricter admission standards for membership of the Caucus?)
