Nashik, May 15: A 28-year-old doctor was arrested in Malegaon early Monday morning for allegedly assisting the Lashkar-e-Taiba from whose possession a huge cache of arms was seized recently, police said.
The accused, identified as Sharif Mohmed Shabbir Ahmed, is said to be an activist of the banned Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
Police are likely to interrogate Ahmed, a resident of Sapana Sizing in Malegaon, in connection with the car that was used by the terrorists on May 9 at Aurangabad. The militants escaped in the car when they were intercepted by police.
A diary and a mobile phone have also been seized from his possession, police said.
The car was found abandoned in Sayne-Shivar at Malegaon on Friday and had police arrested four persons - Riyaj Ahmed Mohmed Ramjan (36), Mushtaq Ahmed Mohmed Issac (25), Javid Ahmed Abdul Maji (2 and Afjal Khan Nabi Khan (26) - in this connection. <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
