I am a little suspicious of this BS Reddy. Are they trying to glorify a missionary like tamil's GU pope?
Can anyone with telugu knowledge throw some light on this brown? thanks

The lovers and connoisseurs of Telugu language and literature are finally able to see one of their esteemed benefactor's face. For the first time the photograph of Charles Philip Brown, a prominent British civil servant who worked in Kadapa region and contributed immensely to the conservation of Telugu manuscripts and promote Telugu language and poetry, has been discovered by a Telugu scholar in a remote village of Chittoor district.
 Â
CP Brown, who died in 1884 and was popularly called Brown Dora among Telugus, won the hearts and respect of the people by his contributions like compilation of a Telugu dictionary called Brownayya Nighavantuvu. He had also played a significant role in the publication of the poetry of Vemana, the legendary Telugu poet.
But one thing which always rankled the hearts of the lovers of Telugu language and literature was the absence of any photograph of Brown and they knew him only through some imaginary sketches and paintings of the man drawn on the basis of some verbal records.
However after painstaking search of many years, a Telugu scholar, BS Reddy traced the black and white photo of Brown Dora at the house of Sanjivigari Subba Rao of Yellutla village under Gorrkaunda Mandal of Chittoor district.
BS Reddy said that he came to know from Saligrama Srinivascharyulu about the presence of the photograph of PC Brown along with the three other persons during one of his visits to Vayalapadu and procured with his help from Yellutla village. Five palm leaf manuscripts were also collected from the same village.
The Telugu scholars and literateurs are immensely happy that more than 122 years after his death, PC Brown has come back to 'life' for them. <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
