Rahul Gandhi's statement on Pakistan claiming that Congress had split that country is sheer political gimmick , an immature and irresponsible way of seeking popularity with little thought or content. First, the statement is diplomatically uncouth and uncivil, badly timed and irrelevant to the situation in context of which it has been used as misinformation on a topic about which the voter is ill informed. Second and this no politician is bold to conceive is that we did great damage to our strategic security by splitting Pakistan, disconnecting it from its weak and vulnerable wing and turning this into a full fledged state which will never be favourably disposed towards us, indeed has the potential for becoming a threat , abrasive as it already is, a stronger bastion of fundamentalism than Pakistan itself. This at great cost in lives of our men and resources, all purposeless . For the only strategic handle this war gave was the capture of 90,000 PWs which was lost and traded off by Mrs Gandhi by signing the Shimla Agreement without concluding the Kashmir chapter in the West , a debacle brought upon the nation by the Congress with ceasefire in 48 with which we still live. Instead we goofed up by opening a front along the western international boundary only. Can there be a bigger mess up at national cost and there was not a squeak from any quarter not even the military. Such statements are a sign of desperation and reflect what our political system can throw up.
