So a kshtriya candidate fielded by her pulled in his base and the BSP's dalits votes, so if two blocks(out of 4 for e.g, the other being yadavs and muslims) vote 20% each its hard to lose since you get something like 40% of the vote.

Its not simple as that as one can see from some of the results posted by Mudy above. Behenji was not the only one who fielded Brahmins. Others did too. What is unique about Mayawati was that she courted Brahmins BECAUSE THEY ARE BRAHMINS. Brahmins accepted it and voted as a block. Will this work for other elections ? Hard to say. Perhaps it worked this time because of several factors like Yadav supremacy in UP and the OBC quota issue. I dont know.
If this block can be solidified the implications of this are huge. When I say solidified I mean this vote has to be assured of voting one way like the muslims, no matter what. And it has to assure the parties that it will come out in droves and vote for the parties that they have reached a consensus on. Once that happens a lot of interesting possibilities open up. Can it be solidified ? Or is this a flash in the pan ? Hard to say, but we will see..
