Sonia made the announcement in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, at whose residence the Left-UPA coordination committee met. The meeting was attended, among others, by DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, senior Left leaders Prakash Karat, Abani Roy and AB Bardhan, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Sharad Pawar.
Shivraj Patil, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, and Arjun Singh were also present at the meeting.
