Twenty20 World Cup
India vs South Africa
In the praise of Indian seamers
Indian seamers won the Twenty20 match against South Africa. RP Singhâs surgical performance against South Africa was truly remarkable. He was very well supported by Sri Santh.
I noticed RP Singh creates bounce of difficult heights. His pitches have lots of forward momentum even those pitches that bounce high. So a batter is dealing with two problems difficult height and very little time to react. He creates difficult angles for a batter as well and yet remains within the tight width of the wicket. His over the wicket and under the wicket runups are very tightly controlled. Excellent performance RP Singh!
Now coming back to the batters. The top order collapsed again. But we had a new star R Sharma. I saw some good quality batting from R Sharma. MS Dhoni did his part as well. Thanks to them, India was able to put over 150 runs. There were some excellent shots by Robin Utthappa. I think Robin Utthappa has potential to become an explosive middle order batter for Indian team. His reliability has improved tremendously in past few matches although he did not do that well in this match. But then why just single him out?
If our top order batters fail us again against Australia then we would be in serious trouble. Seamers can only do so much. Keep in mind Cricket is a game designed to favor a batter. If a batter cannot consistently put a paltry 30-run score on the table in a Twenty20 format then he is not a batter. I support the decision to sit Sehwag if the news is accurate. I think Gautam Gambhir is technically more robust than Sehwag. I see a great potential in Gautam Gambhir.
