Narendra Modi's reply to EC
12/8/2007
The BJP has strongly defended the Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's comments on Sohrabuddin. In his reply to the Election Commision's show cause notice, the Gujarat chief minister said that was quoted out of context.
Moreover, Narendra Modi also said that he was miquoted by the press and that he never justified the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin. Modi's reply to EC
Meanwhile, the BJP sources have told TIMES NOW that Narendra Modi is likely to defend his comments made on Sohrabuddin in his reply to the Election Commission's notice.
In his reply to the EC, Modi is likely to defend his comments on Sohrabbudin Sheikh by saying that he was replying to a political debate on terrorism started by the Congress and only articulated his party's hardline approach in tackling terror.
Modi's reply is expected to reach the Election Commission by 5.30 pm on Saturday (Dec 8) evening. The Gujarat chief Minister had been asked by the EC to explain his comments justifying the Sohrabuddin encounter.
Prima facie, the EC had earlier said that Modi's comments violated the electoral code of conduct and a final decision would be taken only after the Gujarat Chief Minister replies to its show-cause notice.
Earlier, Narendra Modi has asked the Election Commission for more time to explain his controversial Sohrabuddin remarks. The Election Commission was expected to take a decision on the show cause notice today (December 8) against Modi for his comments justifying his encounter and saying that he deserved it.
The BJP has already accused the EC of bias in issuing a show cause notice to Narendra Modi, and and party leaders say he was only replying politically to Sonia Gandhi's comments when she called the Gujarat government "merchants of death".
Sonia tones down
Meanwhile, the Congress President -- Sonia Gandhi -- seems to have toned down her rhetoric against Narendra Modi in Gujarat while addressing a number of rallies on Saturday. The Congress president addressed a series of rallies covering South Gujarat particularly - Mandvi, Amreli and Kakadganj.
