I do not think that Kulhar or any kind of cley pots could be un-hygenic
Various types of cley pots have been used by Indians for ages
In my view:
The Chai in Kulhar is a lot tastier than plastic
The curd in clay pot is better made
The cley pot kulfi... yammy!
Water from matka/surahi is a lot refreshing.
