THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala may be God's Own country but Lord Parasurama will have no statue.
Tourism Minister P Sankaran had announced recently that the tourism department mooted to set up one giant Parasurama image in stone at the famed Kovalam beach to attract tourists. He was under fire by communists who claimed that such a work would only encourage the legend that has no historical backing. <img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif' />
Parasurama, the legendary founder of Kerala, is believed to have carved Kerala out of Arabian Sea by flinging his axe across the ocean.
The minister has, in a written reply, said on Tuesday the department had not taken a decision to this effect. It is as good as dropped, he hinted.
