The Societal Stockholm Syndrome
#5
Rajesh, it is indeed sad to see where we have come to.

<!--QuoteBegin-->QUOTE<!--QuoteEBegin-->what I have noticed is that somehow a culture of minorytism is promoted in our society - one where each and every person of the society feels alien to his surroundings - always struggling and fighting - orwellian(?) (from George Orwell). <!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

There are 2 aspects to this. There is a group (or groups) who ar very keen to see India break up. Chief among them are the Indian communists. remember they were siding with the british during the quit india movment and supported Jinnah in the 2 nation theory. There are of course others.

Normally a nation with a strong body politic will ride this out as part of the game plan. The question is the numbers in the populace who are not mentally tough and who succumb easily to the SSS. These are the ones without a solid anchor in Bharatiyata. For the most part these are people who have little or no knowledge of our epics, puranas, vedantic texts, know very few indian langauge very well and as a consequnce will blame India at the slightest provocation for each and every ill that is known to man. It is only after i frequented the internet about 7 or 8 years ago that i saw the extent of self loathing among these so called educated class. Most of the criticism we get from firengi is based on arguments originally absorbed by Indics themselves. For example the brits noticed a yearning among upper class Indians to be treated like the british (' but i have always travelled first class' Gandhijji to the SAfrican police when they threw him out of the first class compartment). So they pandered to this yearning by coming up with the AIT (some of you are more like us and are Aryans and so are better than the rest of you - a concept some Indics have hard time letting go of).

It is a mark of low self esteem and is the result of centuries of bing subjected to semi slave conditions ( ji huzoor, yes saar). The aim of the Muslim sultans like Allauddin Khilji was to break the will and self respect of the Hindu populace. Well they did succeed partially with a little help from Macaulay, not immediately but 8 centuries later. This thing took a long time happening and my suspicion is that it will take a while to fix. In the meantime demographics is working against us and the Indic tradition may not have the luxury of time to recover fully.

Acharya and I are compiling a list of essays. it is not complete yet, but if you are interested in reviewing current material send me an email kaushal42 at gmail dot com.
