The Societal Stockholm Syndrome
#8
I believe that the Stockholm syndrome has evolved as a part of defense mechanism of a primate when under the stress of being captured by an out group member. I feel the only way of breaking it is constant reinforcement of group identity from outside. This is what Israel has down by its aggressive program in telling people about the massacres in Nazi Germany.

Moslems by contrast have exploited the SS to its maximum to swell their ranks. Maliq Kaffr and Vazir Ibrahim, the Hindu and Christian captives who became warriors of Islam are indeed illustrative of the point. The turkic Yenicheri system thrived in the Indo-Islamic and Turkish empires perhaps because of the SS.
