Antony sees win on Tuesday
Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: Defence Minister and Congress Working Committee member A.K. Antony on Sunday said the United Progressive Alliance would win Tuesdayâs confidence vote.
Speaking to journalists here, Mr. Antony lashed out at the Left parties for being prepared to âassociate with any devilâ to pull down the UPA government. The party was trying to dislodge the UPA government and hand over the reins to communal forces. It would regret this action later.
Mr. Antony said the Congress would not take any action that would undermine the countryâs independent foreign policy. He deplored the Left partiesâ propaganda in this regard. The campaign that the India-U.S. nuclear agreement was anti-Muslim was unfortunate. India badly needed nuclear energy to meet power shortages it was facing now.
Indiaâs stand on the Iran issue had not changed. The country would oppose any attempt by the U.S. to take military action against Iran. âThe government was not prepared to jettison its ties with traditional friends,â he said.
